“Quite the finesse you have there. Much unlike our General. I am sure you must be aware from your duel together, but despite calling himself an assassin he has a strange inclination towards flashy and widely-destructive attacks. The type that’ll alert everyone in the vicinity of your presence… Assuming anyone survives.” Chuckling, the lieutenant plucked a rose from the bush and slotted the stem into his chest so that only the petals poked out. “I’ll keep this as a reminder of my inadequacy. Next time we meet, I’ll aim to at least make you sweat.” The man returned the polite gesture with a bow of his own. Ryu would also sense a genuine smile at the mention of the halberd as Lady begun to lead him back towards the inn.
The next day would be a peaceful one. “So, what do you think of Mo? I have only ever visited Leaf before with Zuruel, so I don’t have much to compare it to.” Lady stared with a curious eye as Ryu finished his breakfast. Were all Ninja villages the same? Were they military driven like Mo? She couldn’t help but wonder. One key difference appeared to be the age range of the ‘soldiers’. Ryu likely noted that even the new recruits in Mo were several years older than him. In contrast, Lady had met Ninja even younger than Ryu. Were these child soldiers, or simply highly talented individuals nurtured from an early age? She couldn’t find the right words to express the question in a polite way. Though likely, Ryu would spot the canine glancing over his young features on more than one occasion. “Oh! Before I forget, I picked up on Zuruel’s thoughts just now. He is with the Duchess and Tomoko in the palace. Let me know when you’d like to join them, and I’ll guide you there.”
Zuruel suddenly and violently sneezed while simultaneously feeling a cold shudder creep along his spine like Loki herself was in the room. “Apologies… Someone must be thinking about me.” He scratched the back of his head while the Duchess extended a warm smile to Tomoko. “Please, the honour is ours. It took generations to forge an alliance with Leaf. We are well aware of how secretive and reclusive Shinobi villages can be. We can only express the deepest gratitude and joy at this opportunity to welcome Cloud into our village as an ally.” The Duchess then pulled out a copy of the treaty from her garments and returned it to Zuruel. “I took a careful look at the document drafted. Zuruel and yourself have done well. Everything agreed upon will be fully honoured by Mo.”
There was a positive energy exuding from the Duchess. Marii could tell that she was pleased. However, there was just one matter left to confirm. “Being my General and Marquess, Zuruel has authority to make such decisions – but I must ask. Do you have the same power in Cloud? And is there a reason the Raikage is not present?” The Duchess was a straightforward and blunt individual. She liked getting straight to the point and preferred direct answers. The disguised Homunculi had no reason to pose such a difficult question to Tomoko, however, it knew it needed to mimic the Duchess’s personality perfectly. Unfortunately for Tomoko, such a question coupled together with a analytical gaze was to be expected from the leader of Mo.
