Despite his efforts, the mutilated man fell limp in Arkai's arms. He swore under his breath, then moved his hands over the man's eyes. He owed him at least that. He pulled the katana from his back, and laid him down. He sighed. This wasn't good. Their last source of information had been killed. He shook his head, and brought himself to his feet. He looked over the blood-washed room, and thought, who could possibly have the strength to do this? And then...Who would? Only a heartless coward would attack poor civilians like this. He heaved another heavy sigh, then looked to Tenshin. "We should probably go back. We've found out what's happened." He was sufficiently depressed. After all his hard work, he still couldn't save the man. He hadn't been able to save anyone. Not Kami, not Kouushimei, not the girl. He shook, almost with an overwhelming sadness. He couldn't let this happen again. Never again. He turned, and faced the darkness of the chamber. Then he saw it. And he knew his extra-mission goal. Make. It. Pay.
The cursed thing emerged from the blackness. It was a human alright, and yet, wihen it spoke, the voice was anything but. "Move flesh for the master." It had no emotion. It was a thing that was living in deadness. Arkai's first instinct was to cut it's head off and throw it into some firey pit of doom. But he also knew that it was the most information they were going to get. But his attention was drawn back to the figure. It was staring right at him. "Yours will make a nice belt." That was it. He wasn't going to take any crap from this thing. "Really? Cause I was thinking the same thing about your di-" His... interesting comment was cut off by the sound of licking of lips. Then the cursed thing vanished. He twirled his head in every direction. Where was it? Left? Right? Behind? Below? Above... Yes. The thing had whipped it's spiked chain at him. He had only one reaction. Block. He kneeled, then moved the katana in his hand to deflect the chain. He did, but he also lost the sword as well. No matter, he was a ninja, and he always had something up his sleeve. He instinctvely reached for his spear, but, as much as he wanted to kill the thing, he had to keep it alive. He made handsigns, and from the blood pools all around them, rose up five copies of him. Three inside the lower section of the chamber, two behind the thing. As they ran to tackle the man, Arkai made the handsigns for one more technique. The blood at the thing's feet, and the two clones attempting to tackle him, would form a water prison. A prison slightly tainted with blood.
