I stood in the center of the combat arena and looked around me. I had never been in this room before, but I have spent years training in various places just like this one. I've been around the block enough to know that it wasn't the room itself that mattered. It was the men standing inside of it. I walked over to the weapon rack and grabbed a small wooden training sword. Chestnut... I thought to myself as I gave the wooden weapon a few swings. I stepped forwards into the center of the 50x50 meter room getting a feel as my bare feet touched the wooden floor. 

Wearing nothing more than my baggy training clothes I paused for a moment taking a deep breath. Here in this dojo. I once again found myself at home.

Since joining the Sand village, there had only been so much he had not been able to do yet. He had gone around to see the country directly surrounding the village, he had gotten to train and further master a few new techniques and had even managed to push his skills up to higher levels. Though it wasn't enough, it wasn't nearly enough. Even though he trained every day, studied extensively and got plenty of hours of rests and even ate a ton of healthy food, he still felt inadequate. It was as if some power inside of him desperately wanted to come out into the light, though some invisible, impenetrable wall was keeping it locked in.

Whether it was because his body was that of an eleven year old kid, the fact that a coma had seemingly locked him from actually remembering his past before the time spent in the Cloud or due to the fact that his mind acted faster than his body could keep up with, he did not know. All he knew was that there were other combatants who far outclassed him in this world that might have answers, that might help him put a few dents in the imaginary wall so more of his latent potential could seep out like water over a barren wasteland, allowing life to spring forth. That was why he had come to one of those people today, one of the few people that had taken the time to try and teach him a few things.

Having seen how he fought back in his very own Dojo in the land of Fang, he knew that he stood no chance of winning in an all out brawl, though that was not what today was about anyway. Today was about him learning what he could do, as well as receive pointers on how best to do it and gain insight as to where he should direct his attention more. Whether it'd be defense, offense or maybe even on the supplementary, maybe even all of the above in case all of them were inadequate, he was set on finding out exactly where he was lacking. Having brought none of his own armor or weapons, he took one of the wooden swords out of the rack and got into the sparring area.

"I reckon I'm as ready now as I'll ever be, so how is this going to go down?"

[Let's Begin]

As I looked at my student I wanted to see how he could handle a few basic attacks first. Gripping the wooden sword in my right hand I began to close the distance towards my student. First was a quest to see if he could handle basic sequencing. Letting the tip of the blade trace along the floor as I covered the 6 meters I needed to get into striking distance. I canted the blade so that the 'sharp'
edge of my wooden katana traced along the floor, edge facing upwards.  As I rushed him I would step out suddenly with my non dominant leg, my left leg, now outwards in an exaggerated horse stance would allow my body to throw the slash. Cutting from the lower left hand side of his guard upwards and across his body.

I would be expecting a dodge or counter move. So I would make sure to position my slash at the point where it would be just at the height of my max reach. Since the two of us were using similar weapons, my age and dimensions of my body would give me a longer reach then my opponent. The moment the attack didn't connect I'd quickly thrust forwards with the tip of my sword three times with three distinct stabbing motions. With each stab I'd slide my feet towards him by stepping forwards first with my right foot and bringing my left foot in behind it.

It seemed that there would be no time to talk things through as Shiki darted forward with his wooden blade, ready to knock him on his ass. When Hamura seemingly got within range of Shiki's strike, he could instantly tell that his longer limbs granted him the upper hand in this fight. Even if he left himself open to attack, Hamura would need to first get closer for any of his attacks to actually connect, which would in turn leave him open to be attacked. As such, there would not be a single thing to gain from going on the offensive at this point, leaving him to either go with the unorthodox or with the defensive. Watching as the attack came in from his right (Shiki's left), the upward strike allowed him with a unique opportunity since his opponent was in such a ridiculously low stance.

Since the goal for the day was to go through some basic combat moves, he did not want to have to rely on ninjutsu in order to buff up his strikes or use specific techniques from the Burēdono Kenseijin style. What was being checked right now was his ability to think quickly and make a counter decision, meaning it was his mind that was being picked apart at this point of the training, not his skill set. And since they were dealing with wooden swords, there was no need to worry about getting cut, so he had to adjust to how he would deal with someone using a wooden staff instead. Given what he knew now, a mix of the unorthodox and an offensive approach were likely his best options right now.

As the strike against him came up from the lower right, he had come up with something that just might work. Holding his own wooden sword with both hands, he performed two moves at the same time. One was him raising and bring down his right leg, aiming to stomp down on the wooden weapon that was being raised at him from a low position. At the same time, he would use the forward momentum of this step to strike at Shiki's unguarded left with a two-handed strike of his own. With a bit of luck, the weight of his body that was put into the stomp would be enough to bar the upward strike just long enough for him to lash out. And since the two would happen roughly at the same time, his forward momentum might at the very least get his attack to connect, even if would leave his right side open as well.

My student showed great promise right away. He was reacting quickly to his attack and actively paying attention to his bodies limitations in this situation. His motion to stomp on the wooden weapon showed that he was understanding the capabilities of our weapons as well. While in this exact moment the move was brilliant, that move in a real fight could potentially prove fatal. But alas, the failure was on myself as a teacher for not stating to treat the blades as real. Still, a smile came to my face. He was preforming, perhaps unbenownst to him, something called a master strike. A move that countered and attacked at the same time. I smiled as I decided how to proceed from the fight in this exact moment. When his foot was connecting with the wooden blade and his weapon coming around I preformed my own movement. Letting his foot connect while letting the own force of his stomp aide me. The foot connecting with the blade provided a focal point. I straightened my arm out and while holding my blade putting my entire bodies weight onto the hilt. Lifting both my feet upwards and performing something akin to a front flip styled pollvault on the handle of the blade itself I'd let the wooden blade be knocked out underneath me from my opponents strike as my opponent stuck against my lower guard.

I'd come out of the front flip like movement with both of my legs in a scorpion kick. Thrusting both of my legs outwards to kick my student square in the chest creating more distance between us and hopefully knocking him to the floor. With my opponent committed to his two handed swing, I'd be safe from his reprisal.

OOC: So one thing you need to be careful of, is non descriptive in how you are striking Shiki. You took very detailed measure to react to my movements, but your own strikes require just as much effort. I could have stated in my post, because you were not detailed enough that you struck to high and I simply ducked it, or in this case to low. (hence why I lowered my body to the floor, to invite a attack to my lower guard.)
