An endless expanse of the finest sands, stretched out in an infinite ocean that has layed witness to countless of events transpired since the dawn of time. A ethereal plane practically immune to the effects of time, free from the whims of civilisation and only purpose was to last for all eternity. The loud shifting of its gravel-like sand would alert the spirit of the desert to an anomaly in its system.
A lone traveller, young, short, and clearly burdened by the intensity of the sun's rays. That person was no other than Shoko Natamura, though such lack of reputation made his name irrelevant. What really mattered was his exact motive for traversing through the sprawling desert no doubt trade-marked by the uninhabited parts of Kaze no Kuni. Truth be told, the young lad's journey was on the pretense of winning a bet, if he indeed managed to last only two days in the desert.
Earlier in the day, the boy had been goaded into careless bet by another young boy, who decided he would thoroughly let Shoko know that as a foreigner, he had no place in Kaze no kuni. Shoko could've easily come up with a snappy comeback that would've put the boisterous fool in his place, but truely being an adventurer at heart made him curious enough to accept the challenge(not because he had something to prove, but wanted to see the fabled desert with his own eyes).
