Teach us how to Win!
Rank: D-rank
IIC Length: 2 Days
Difficulty: None
Objective: Teach some young girls self defence.
Description: Jessie and her friends heard about a friend of her friends brothers girlfriends aunt getting mugged and now they are scared of what might happen to some girls like them. For this reason, they have requested some big strong Shinobi to help them learn how to protect themselves. At least that's what they say, it's up to you to figure out any underlying motives they may have. Teach them how to protect themselves from attackers and you may get a reward. This mission can be taken by up to two Shinobi, preferably male, but they did not want to make it seem too obvious. Jessie and her friends are pretty teenage girls who are recognized by their constant group hug and the fact that the four girls all have different hair colours, and they can be found at the Obelisk of Tears, looking for new shiny jewellery from far off lands.
Reward: 15,000 Ryo
Lupe strolled out the Kazekage Tower looking up at the sky with a smirk on his face. Finally, his dreary days at the academy were over. He was a full-fledged Sand shinobi now and no one could take that away from him. No irritating classes and no worrying about where his next meal would come from. No, just missions, combat, and glory. He smiled up as he watched three birds fly in a circle in the sky above. Oh! He almost forgot. He pulled out the folded contract out of his pack pocket and unfolded it to examine it more closely. In his excitement he barely read it over before he chose it. He read through it as he continued his stroll down the mid-day Sand street. Okay, it seemed as if some women were in fear of being mugged and wanted to be taught how to defend themselves. He was to meet them at the Obelisk of Tears. Sounds like an easy pay day. Might as well go now so I can finish up a session before night time. He was planning to treat himself to a nice dinner alone to celebrate his first day as a shinobi and wanted to finish up as soon as possible. Money probably wouldn’t be tight anymore so he had a few choice places in mind. His mouth watered at the thought. Shinobi life was already looking great.
He arrived at the Obelisk and looked around. Four girls with varying hair colors were giggling and conversating together. What? These girls seemed younger than he’d expected. He glanced back at the contract and read it again, seeing it just had the client’s name “Jesse”. For some reason he had assumed it was an adult. I mean what young girl would be so concerned with being mugged that she’d hire a shinobi to teach her to defend herself. He looked around again, seeing nobody else. Oh well, I guess this is them. Maybe her parents were paranoid over her or something, whatever didn’t matter. “Um, excuse me?”. The four girls stopped conversating and turned around. He looked at who he presumed to be the leader and giving a courteous bow, said “Jesse? Lupe Kumagai, nice to meet you.” The girls glanced up at his headprotector, and making the connection, exclaimed “Oh! You are the shinobi here to teach us!”, Jesse giggled. The friends all glanced at each other and exchanged a few more whispers while giggling. Lupe glanced over them. They were… kind of pretty he had to admit. Being a shinobi he often forgot how truly young he was. These girls were of his same age it seemed yet he felt a world apart. Would these be the kind of girls I’d go to school with if I was in a normal school? Shaking the thought, Lupe said out loud, “Yeah, that’s what I’m here for, there’s an open area just a block or two that way if you’d like to follow me”. The girls exchanged one more look before following his lead and exchanging more giggles and whispers.
What were they giggling about? Did they even care about learning to protect themselves? Well he’d learn soon enough wouldn’t he. As long as he got his pay day he didn’t really care either way. He turned around once they reached the open area. “I heard about the muggings that have been going on recently and I know you are scared, I can teach you some basics that will protect you especially if you stick together. Hey, are you listening?”, the girls shifted their gazes towards him. “Of course mister”, one of the girls giggled. “Okay, first we’ll start with a basic stance, remember, your goal is to temporarily incapacitate the target so that you may escape and get help, there’s no way you’re going to win a fight against a larger adult but there are many ways a smaller person can temporarily get the advantage over a larger opponent, it all boils down to a few simple things…”. Lupe formed a basic stance, shifting his weight in an efficient manner. “Try your best to stand like I am standing”. The girls giggled and glanced at each other before trying the stance. “Am I doing it right?”. “No, no, look at how I’m doing it”, said Lupe. “I don’t know how, come show me”. This was going to be more of a hassle than he thought. He sighed and approached Jesse, putting one hand on her elbow and the other one her forearm, he tried shifting her stance properly. “There, you’re doing it better now”. “Oh wow, Kumagai! You’re such a good sensei! It’s my turn for you to teach me!”, exclaimed one of the girls with blue hair playfully. Lupe blushed the tiniest bit.
“Oh my gosh he’s blushing!”, exclaimed the girl with the purple hair. “Wh-what? No I’m not, just focus on your stance”, said Lupe whilst looking away. “Yes, yes he is!”, said the girl with yellow hair. “He looks kind of cute when he’s embarrassed, don’t you think?”, he heard one of the girls whisper. “Okay, listen, enough with the joking. I’ve been assigned to teach you guys to defend yourselves and that’s what we’re supposed to be doing, this is my first official assignment as a shinobi and I really want to do well, what kind of laughing stock would I be if I failed my first assignment as simple as this? Can you girls just help me do that?”. The girls began giggling at his reaction, Jesse spoke up and said “Oh my gosh you’re a new shinobi! We didn’t know! You must let us treat you to something!”. Lupe looked up at the sky, seeing the sun. It seemed to be a couple hours until sundown. “Alright, here’s the deal, you girls give me your focus for the next two hours, and we can go somewhere to eat afterwards, then I walk you home and we call it a night, hopefully you ladies learn something useful and I won’t be the Genin who failed his first D-rank mission, deal?”. The girls giggled and embraced each other in an unusual group hug, “Deal!”.
The session continued on for a few more hours, Lupe couldn’t help but enjoy himself. He came from a completely different world and to be able to have a light-hearted afternoon with these “normal” people was extremely refreshing albeit their slightly annoying nature. As the sun went down he finally decided to call it a night. “I think we’re done for now, we can leave if you really want to, hopefully you all learned something today”, Lupe said. “Are all shinobi this strong, Lupe?”, asked Jesse in a teasing manner. Don’t take the bait Lupe, they’re trying to fluster you. “Well I am a special case after all, they don’t call me the Sand’s no. 1 Rookie for nothin’”. Okay maybe I can brag just a little bit. The girls giggled and they began their journey to get something. “Oh, oh, Lupe, if you’re new to this area we have the perfect place for you!”, exclaimed Jesse, “Just follow us!”. He followed them to their destination, a Korean BBQ. Lupe’s mouth began to water. An hour later, with a full stomach, Lupe walked the girls home amidst more playful giggling and conversation. He gave his farewells and returned home. What a day, life is already looking better. He thought as he lay in bed. I shouldn’t get too complacent though, this is just a simple D-rank mission. I enjoyed myself but I can’t get comfortable. There are real dangers, I need to get stronger and I won’t get stronger by cohorting with village girls, I must admit it was an interesting first day as a shinobi.
