Tetsu could see the smoke. His department had gotten the emergency call only about 5 minutes ago and the blaze could be seen down the street just as clear as day. Tetsu had prepared for the occasion, carrying his fire resistant Flak Vest, Tactical boots, Fingerless Gloves all over a Green KMP BDU. His medic patch, rank, and designation were all present on his right shoulder as she rummaged through his medical bag that he carried on his side. It had his anti-shock blanket and 3 rebar splints. He readjusted his condition sensing and anti-flash glasses as he arrived at the front of the scene. He saw a couple officers he was familiar with from the south precinct, but other than that he was on his own. He approached the officers and did what any sensible rescue personnel would do. “What’s the situation here?” He asked, knowing that it wasn’t very good if there was still an active blaze. There were people crowded around the burning apartment building, or so it seemed it was, as he looked across the ground at the triaged casualties on the ground.
Tetsu [First aid 60+20] could see the tags on the toes of the injured individuals, and it wasn’t looking good. The ambulances, a pair of guys with a stretcher, began to carry the most critically wounded people to the medical trauma center, but some of these people were not going to make it. Tetsu began to look down the line of injured people, gaging who needed treatment first while the officers responded. “Well, it isn’t good. This building is unsalvageable, but we have evacuated everyone we could.” The young female officer responded as her partner interjected. “We have a report of this being a possible arson…well be investigating that in the future, but right now we have a lot of injured people we need to take care of.”
Tetsu understood and nodded. “Understood, I’ll get to it then.” He said with a degree of tension in his voice. He quickly looked at the line of critical red patients. The black tags were dead, beyond saving, and so he moved away from the four or so dead individuals, feeling sorry for them, but none the less he had a job to do. Moving past the covered bodies of the dead, he moved on to a young woman, preparing to do the treatment. He knew that he could save this patient, and if she wasn’t treated soon, she was going to die.
Approaching the Woman, Tetsu quickly put his medical bag down and began to assess her injuries. Externally she looked pretty rough. There was a lot of intense second degree burns, but worse than that was that they were on her face. The burns were not the issue, it was the fact that below the burns, there was an intense gash across her stomach, probably from falling down and the burns having damaged her skin already. Tetsu felt her wrist carefully after putting on some rubber gloves he had stored in his kit. His leg holster housed a few weapons as well, such as two knives and his KMP baton, but those would not help him here.
He could feel a weak pulse, but her body seemed to be experiencing acute shock and arrhythmia. Tetsu focused his chakra into his right hand placing it over her bleeding wound as he worked on closing up the exertnal wounds first. This was the hard part. Tetsu had trained hard to learn how to do this technique. His chakra worked like a fusing suture, closing the wounds as well as trying to keep the woman alive to some degree. Her vitals would be stabilized, but he would not be able to treat her burns on the scene. Tetsu cast his status, and that’s when he really understood the seriousness of what was going on. He got a good sense of the woman’s condition, and her heartbeat was slowly fading. She was going into cardiac arrest.
