Elderwood Reclamation
Elderwood Reclamation
The hours rest at dusk. There was no sun in the sky, but a warm, amber orange hue lined the western horizon. There are three big clouds directly overhead, and smaller ones scattered across here and there. No stars were bright enough to be seen, but the half-filled moon rested up in the eastern portion of the sky.
The three great clouds above had their bellies dyed gold, for the golden glow of Elderwood Kahiscrav was strongest at the top of its body.
Elderwood Kahiscrav was rooted at the center of the Kajuu Forest. She towered over the smaller trees—each averaged fifteen meters tall—which didn’t even reach halfway up the stomach area of her torso-shaped body.
Kahiscrav had a body of dense, beige wood. Her roots dug at least as deeply into the earth as she was tall—a hundred and twenty-six meters—and possibly more. She had eight arms: Kahri, her upper left; Kahro, her upper right; Juri, her middle-upper left; Juro, her middle-upper right; Ulri, her middle-lower left; Ulro, her middle-lower right; Hiri, her lower left; and Hiro, her lower right. Each hand’s fingers had black, thorn-like claws at their tips.
She had no neck or head, but a thick cluster of leafy and flowery branches rose from where they would’ve been. A coat of moss and vines covered her chest and stomach regions. Her entire body glowed with a gentle golden light. The Elderwood branches, though, contained a brilliant tower of golden light shining from Kahiscrav up to the heavens.
Elderwood Kahiscrav’s mere presence seemed to encourage growth. Leaves constantly fell and regrew from the trees and shrubs, covering the forest ground with a layer of green. Fungi thrived on the leaves, eating them up and spreading an off-white mist of spores that went up to an average adult’s knees.
There were so many trees that there was only two meters of space around every wooden trunk. The leaves, spores, and thick roots covering the ground made the entire region a difficult terrain to traverse. There were trees as far as the eye could see. It seemed to go on for several miles—right past the horizon.
There was a clearing where the divine Elderwood was anchored to the ground. There was twenty meters between its waist and the ring of surrounding trees. A river ran through this clearing as it crossed the forest. Its currents were rapid, causing the water to be white with foam, and the waters were located to Kahiscrav’s right side, running from north to south.
Despite the oppressive conditions of Kajuu forest at the present, nothing kept anyone from approaching Elderwood Kahiscrav. If a person were to touch or strike at the divine being, however, a conflict was sure to come. In fact, there seemed to be signs of a fight already. Though the signs were miniscule and being eaten away by fungi and scavengers, a few stray bits of flesh and bone were scattered in the branches of some of the trees near the clearing. A lot of mercenaries had been hired, and it seemed that this was all that was left.
