Personality:
A foppish young man, a dandy among dandies, Richard has a taste for the extravagant and the grandiose quite unlike many of the more down to earth peoples of his family line. This and his natural curiosity leads him to pursue many different studies and activities, but he always gets distracted by some new interest and abandons the old just short of mastery. This grants him a broad range of skills but no real specialization.
He dislikes puzzles and riddles, but is driven by curiosity and instinct to understand the underlying truth of things, which makes him actually fairly good at resolvong them. It also means he has a penchant for asking questions, and not always in situations where this is beneficial or appropriate. These questions can sometimes prove unexpectedly penetratrating. Which more often than not gets him into trouble.
Generally a pleasant and optimistic young man on the surface, tolerant and kind to his own detriment, he is not with unlimited patience. It is possible to provoke him to anger. Richard's anger, particularly in moments of righteous fury, is a quiet thing, a low flame that burns away doubt in present in himself and others, ready to ignite an explosion of decicive action.
Despite this, he feels in some ways hollow and lost. His wanderlust, his frivolities, and his many, many hobbies, are all attempts to fill a void he doesn't completely understand. His life lacks any real meaning or purpose, and nothing gives him any sort of lasting satisfaction. He enjoys gambling and other games of chance as a breif diversion, but isn't as skilled as he believes himself to be and frequently makes wagers beyond his ability to actually pay. While he manages to weasel himself out of trouble most times, things rarely end up going according to plan.
A man with a wandering eye, he finds himself with a weakness for pretty girls and shiny objects. Further distracting an already frivolous and irresponsible, if benevolent, personality, it's sometimes difficult to keep him focused and on task, depending on the environment. That isn't to say he's greedy or a womanizer, he simply cant help but to notice - and appreciate - beauty in all its forms.
Appearance:
Richard is passably attractive, and considers himself to be quite rogueishly handsome. However, he isn't terribly masculine in appearance despite having finalized any physical growth by his current age. In point of fact, he is so androgynous that it wouldn't be unusual to mistake him for a somewhat boyish woman initially. If he were of a mind, he might earn decent coin as a female impersonator.
A large contributor besides his apparent lack of secondary sexual characteristics is his long, flowing white hair - uncommon in his family and impeccably well conditioned and cared for. Not a single thin strand out of place, and no split ends or the like. Usually worn tucked behind the ears, occasionally rogue bangs can fall in front of one hazel eye, concealing a portion of his face.
His outfit, an extravagent scarlet ensemble inspired by red mountain birds, is tailored to his measurements, so despite being largely loose and flowing manages to never quite get in the way of anything that needs doing. Conveniently, it's also good for hiding an ace or two up his sleeves, both literally and metaphorically.
He favors a jaunty wide-brimmed hat replete with a huge feather jutting up from pone side, the same snowy white as his hair. Supposedly won in a card game, he keeps his elaborate plumage in pristine condition, always ensuring it sits at just the right angle to make the best impression.
Tying the look together is a travelling cape with a large mantle, both the same scarlet color as the rest of his outfit, as well as a pair of comparatively simple white-heeled brown boots and white gloves. While he does own other outfits, it's hard to carry too many spares around while travelling, so he keeps this clean as best he can and wears it as often as he can.
History:
Richard was born in an isolated and secretive area of the world known as Alleve's Hallow. His parents, Bando and Shiki, carried the draconic heritage of their clan more strongly than most. Their physical traits, which increased their resemblance to their reptillian cousins marked them as something foreign, something other, to the plain and simple-mannered folk of their home. Eventually the clan was forced to drive them out due to outside pressures.
Chasing rumours of a place that offered a life for those shunned by the supposedly civilized societies, they eventually found the place they sought. Here, they weren't even the strangest sight by the standards of "normal" folk. In fact they were among the closest to normal humans around, which was a comforting surprise. This was a place where they could settle down at last. They actually built a relatively successful life for themselves as tailors catoring especially to those with unique sartorial needs.
In time they bore a child, a male who despite being born of two people who were considered close to monsters, and who should have carried the blood of dragons more strongly than either of them, was actually incredibly human-normative. There was absolutely nothing special about him. Unsure whether to be relieved or disappointed, but proud to have a complete family at last, they just left it at that.
Growing up, Richard felt uncomfortable as the only normal-looking human in his neighborhood, feeling like it marked him as distinctly unusual and unwelcome. To better fit in, he grew out his snowy white hair as much as was manageable, as it was his only unusual feature to speak of, and began dressing in flashy and elaborate fashions which covered as much of his ordinary pink skin as possible. But it never felt like enough.
Following Alleve's Dragonkin traditions, he left hoke one day when he reached physical maturity to go on a journey of self discovery. A journey which to this day has been largely without succees. He's weathered numerous minor misadventures through a combination of unpredictability, tenacity, and luck, but still isnt ready to settle down. In his years of travels he pursued many hobbies, professions, and techniques, but has mastered very little due to his persistent unrest and need to keep moving.
After having done some discrete favors for the leadership structure within the Sand Village, a remarkably more complicated ordeal than was strictly necessary, Richard was offered the chance to receive training as a ninja of the village. Despite needing to start from the lowest ranks just the same as anyone else, Richard was not one to turn down a chance to learn new things, and naturally accepted. The village's ways are somewhat uncomfortably strict, but it was too good an opportunity to pass up on - not many outsiders managed to be brought into the fold of a ninja village, with their reputation for secrecy and ot unjustified paranoia. Plus, he needed the money.
