[ Character Depth ]
Personality
The offspring of both a samurai and a shinobi, Akime has adopted traits equally from both sides of her lineage.
From her father, the teachings of the samurai had been firmly planted within her cerebral. She was brought up to be everything that came with a a true warrior; courage, loyalty, honor. From a young age, she was taught to fight for what she believed in, to defend that which she loved against all odds, from all adversaries, and to never give up, even in the face of a stronger adversary. She was told to stand her ground until the earth below gave way, but her parents had never taught her to be foolish — there was no defeat in retreat — if only to return another day to reap the spoils of war.
Akime took these many lessons to heart, and although her mother preached much of the same, she taught her daughter the true ways of the ninja. These lessons embodied a different approach than her battle-hardened father, and instead focused on stealth and deception, and what it meant to dismantle an opponent before they even understood what had happened. To strike from the shadows, under a disguise of darkness, was often the most subtle approach, but it was not the only; from her mother, Akime developed the virtue of patience - she came to understand situations, and react accordingly.
She had never thought about the differences between a samurai and a ninja, and subconsciously as she grew older, the two teachings would mix in her mind until it had all become second nature.
Even with all the knowledge drilled into her since a child, Akime is still an individual. She lacks the unyielding empathy that both her parents displayed throughout their lives, instead only truly worried about furthering her own agendas. With the death of her parents, as well as the joining of Sunagakure's militia, the Shitakuma has adopted the philosophy of "the weak are food for the strong", and trains diligently so that her position on the food chain is never forfeited. She also believes that for there to be strong, there has to be weak, and so for that reason, she protects that which she deems necessary (such as Kirigakure civilians) or those under her subordination.
The lands of Mizu No Kuni were dangerous, and years of being forced to protect herself from rebel forces has turned her cold to the kill - she is no longer phased by death - instead, understands that it is part of the natural cycle of life. Perhaps a blessing that she is void of sight, Akime finds solace in the power of her kekkei genkai; whether it be by listening to the sounds of the river flowing, the gentle breeze of the wind, or even in indulging in the delightful sound of music.
Through her other senses, she had come to understand the realities of life, as sound, smell, and touch are more difficult to fool than one's eyes.
[ Appearance]
Sekíme is a petite creature — standing at a height of 5'6 and weighing a meager 131 pounds, she is often the smallest person in the room — coupled with her being a female, many underestimate her true potential, unknowingly ignorant in the face of a true talent.
Despite her small frame, years of training and combat has honed the girl's body into that of a real warrior. While thin - slender - a closer inspection of the Shitakuma's physical makeup would reveal that she is indeed muscular where it matters. From her triceps to her core, and even below to her legs and ankles show a definition not usually prevalent in that of a woman. She has trained in her taijutsu almost exclusively throughout her young life, and it shows as she dances around the battlefield with precise and efficient movements only attained through countless hours of practice, and an unrivaled discipline.
The Shitakuma has been blessed with a beautiful face; her skin, soft to the touch, is colored a smooth and creamy vanilla, and only seems to further exaggerate the slight hazel hue in her eyes. She is indeed blind, and although she has never seen the color of her eyes for herself, she knows what color they are. Her eyebrows seem to be perfectly positioned above her sockets, and her nose, though slightly pointed, compliments the overall structure of her face. Sekíme draws from the rarer side of the Shitakuma gene pool - in some places her hair is as black as the midnight sky, but if one were to really take a look, it would be inveitable to see her hair possessed a sliver of scarlet.
It falls down her back like a waterfall, but can often be seen tied up in a fancy ponytail, which only a portion of its' silky tresses hanging(see picture above).
Being new to the militia of Sunagakure, Sekíme rarely remembers to carry her headband, but when she does it is almost always seen dangling from her neck like a necklace or a scarf. Her outfit usually consists of loose-tight fitting robes, equipped with all her pouches to hold equipment - her blades, as well as her Daredevil staff, are always strapped to her sides, or resting comfortably horizontally across her back. Her feet are more often fitted into the newest edition of the latest shinobi boots - no sandals for safety - gloves usually adorn her hands, followed by a trail of bandages that wrap up to her elbows.
When the time arises for combat — true combat — the Shitakuman prodigy dons the armor of a samurai. Slim and thin, yet hard enough to protect against the strongest of blows, the armor has been modified to fit a woman of her size, of course, allowing much more freedom of movement than the ones her ancestors wore in battle.
[ Background ]
In order to understand truly what and who Sekíme is, one must first understand her origins and how it is she came to exist in the world.
Ages ago, long before even the Hidden Villages had been established, those who considered themselves shinobi, or ninja, had always had an adversary - the samurai nation. While the two groups didn't openly hate one another, they often bumped heads on the battlefield, which eventually cultivated a culture of combat between the two groups. Many shinobi had fallen to the samurais' blade, and vice versa. It was a time of heavy strife, fueled by the warring of two different lifestyles, traditions, and philosophies.
It had never been heard of, the mixing of the two cultures; in fact, it was forbidden by both sides. It was a hidden love story, one kept secret from everyone but the two involved - it was the reason Sekime had never known her true family, those like her, who lacked the ability to see. Her blessings had been received by her mother, a Shitakuma who studied the ninja arts in the Land of Water. It was here, her home, that she brought her newly birthed daughter and forbidden husband to, a secure location, hidden deep within the depths of the obscuring mist.
The early years of her life were mainly spent in the company of her mother, who taught and showed her the correct way to utilize the power she'd been blessed with. Many of her days were filled with lessons about learning to see, utilizing the many different sense enhancements gifted through her blood. Lessons on the history of the kekkei genkai, the past and the future. As Sekime grew, she was fed knowledge of both the ninja and samurai subtly, and although never giving it much thought, her mannerisms and behaviors began to reflect much of what she heard in her learning.
She learned to utilize chakra in ways other than her kekkei genkai - first came the water-walking, and then the tree climbing. It wasn't long before she was introduced into the art of ninjutsu and genjutsu. When her father got involved, her brought to her training lessons of hardship, honor, endurance -- she was, too, the child of a samurai, and so he would make sure that Sekime knew all about what it meant to be an honrable warrior. The Shitakuman prodigy took the lessons to heart, and when her parents died, she had everything that she needed to fend for herself.
In her travels, she'd eventually end up in the land of wind. She never quite knew her purpose, but she knew how to fight. After countless battles out in the deserts of Kaze No Kuni, Sekime stumbled upon the grandiose that was Sunagakure. With no guidance and no purpose, she enlisted as a shinobi of the state.
