Yu’s strange encounters in Kaminari no Kuni taught her one thing - if she was going to live long enough to find her brother, she needed to get strong enough to survive the journey and whatever weirdos she might encounter on it.
She learned the basics of many things years earlier when she attended a ninja academy, but those skills slipped away in favor of those more prevalent in her survival. Hunting, fishing, gathering and growing all took priority over things like NinJutsu. They were useful, but they didn’t feed her, they couldn’t shelter her or keep her warm through the cold nights of Yuki no Kuni, so she set them aside.
Now, she was reawakening her knowledge, and what better place to start than with one of the elements she felt the most affinity toward?
Yu sat atop a rock protruding from a pond, her legs crossed beneath her body. She rolled her shoulders and took a deep breath before skimming her hand over the surface of the water. With her eyes closed, she moved her hand against it, feeling the water as it flowed around her fingers. She did this for a few moments before rolling her fingers with the motion of the water as if reading each little wave her movement created.
Taking a long, deep inhale through her nose, Yu slowly opened her eyes, fixating her gaze on her hand as it skimmed the surface. Exhaling at the same rate, she raised her palm away from the surface of the pond.
Her face split into a grin as she watched a ball of water move with it, circling her hand like an ill-fitting glove. She clenched her fingers in a fist before flicking them outward, casting droplets of water in all directions. They plopped against the surface, stirring up the water around her, but Yu ran with the momentum.
Squaring her shoulders, she lifted both hands in unison, drawing them toward her chest with the palms facing outward. A small wave of water appeared on either side of her, and with a thrust of her hand they rushed forward, colliding just a few feet in front of her and splashing water everywhere.
“Good. I haven’t forgotten.” She beamed. It wasn’t much, but it was a decent start. If she just spent a little more time training, she knew she could shake off the rust and maybe even learn a little something new.
