These tribes perform rituals of Rook appeasement for the protection of the village children every winter. Rooks attack with strong claw and long, sharp beaks, employing a grab and peck approach. There is a 10% chance that any attack by a Raven is aimed at an opponent's eye. A great helm or some form of special eye protection with automatically stop this attack. Should the attack be successful, the opponent loses the eye. Rooks will not normally attack unless trained to do so or if they sense a danger to the family, nest or another Rook. All Birds of this type travel in flocks and the first encountered are solo scouts. Because of their excellent scouting and rampant paranoia, Rooks cannot be surprised in daylight. Rooks generally spend their days scavenging for food near farmsteads and busy roadways. During mating season, male Rooks will strut around and fluff up their crest and wing feathers in an effort to attract a mate. They mate for life and both the male and female Rook share in the duties of raising their four to 6 young each spring. Rooks possess a higher Intelligence than most birds and have been known to use tools such as rocks or twigs. Rooks are omnivores and enjoy eating all types of grain and insects as well as carrion. Young Rooks help the rest of the flock by gathering nesting materials and guarding occupied nests. There is a myth that at a the beginning of time all Rooks were as white as snow, but after angering the gods they were cursed and turned black. Character Depth
Personality
Kyn has a very chaotic personality. She is very much like others of her kind in that shiny objects are very attractive to her. Kyn tends to steal shiny things when no one is looking, value doesn't matter just shininess. Kyn is also very territorial, but over Yukari rather then any place. Kyn tends to hide inside of Yukari's hood when in the village, but out in the wilderness she is constantly harrassing other birds and keeping a look out.
Appearance
Kyn is unusual for her kind instead of all black like other rooks she is black and white, the other rooks all tried to kill her and she was driven out of the flock before she could even fly. Kyn is about 9 inches tall and weights about 2 pounds. Kyn has a small pouch on his leg to carry slips of paper in. The most unique part of her pattering is how the white spots look like clouds.
Background
Kyn was chased from her flock shortly after her flight feathers grew in. In the days that followed Kyn almost died, it wasn't until she was attracted to something shiny and got hurt, by a stray senbon, that Kyn and Yukari met. Yukari heard the cry of an animal as he was practicing throwing his senbon, and in his guilt over accidentally hurting the young rook. Yukari attempted to nurse her back to health. It took several weeks, in that time Yukari fed and cared for Kyn all the while researching at the library everything he could to make sure she recovered.
When Kyn finally did recover Yukari expected her to leave, however she didn't. She didn't stay at his side, but she did follow him around. So Yukari would leave her bits of meat and berries. After a few weeks of this plus continued use of her name Kyn became more and more comfortable with Yukari. Slowly figuring out the things that Kyn was trying to show her.
Now Kyn goes no where without Yukari and has learned to follow his commands, the treats are nice but its her shinies that really keep her around. Yukari keeps a small pouch on him at all times full of really shiny bits of metal and painted wood. Kyn plans on building her nest with them.
