It is cold. The sky above is a grey slate, decorated by vast armies of equally-grey wool, trudging along the wide skyline at a snail's pace. The frosty air is complemented by the stark-white snowflakes that float gently down the atmosphere. The season of winter was seldom kind, especially now and to those who loitered without proper equipment.
You are surrounded by a wide expanse of mostly grey hues. The ocean's surface almost perfectly reflects the sky, projecting a monochrome scene similar to that of an old photograph. Interestingly, you are standing atop the water's surface, with not a single body of land in sight. The reason why? Well it's quite simple.
Your sensei, having seen that your growth as a shinobi has surpassed all expectations, trusts your abilities enough to send you out on an mission that she is not sure you will come back alive from. Gripped tightly in your hands is a map scroll, detailing the location of a secret hideout. This isn't just any covert abode, this is one of the safehouses of the legendary sage Saburo. You know little of the man, only that while he was presumably an incredibly powerful individual, he is now a relic of times long past. A fairytale, even. But the seriousness in which your sensei spoke of him made you understand that this man is no fairytale. Your sensei did not go into detail, but there is apparently an artifact of immense knowledge hidden in his hideout. Your sensei sends you out knowing that your death will be on her shoulders, but also that she can no longer babysit you given your unnatural growth and your abilities which she already suspects to be jounin level. Your sensei knows you have definitely surpassed the rank of genin in combat-ability and would at least be chuunin if not for the unfortunate cancellation of the chuunin exams this year. Now is the time to prove yourself.
However, you have followed the map and it has lead you here; a seemingly random spot in the middle of the ocean. The words of your sensei echo in your mind and you recall that the hideout is... underwater. You're not sure deep but your sensei definitely said at least 200m below the surface. The wind howls in a low and ominous tone, you stand alone and aware of the mission you have been tasked with. For once in her life, your sensei let you know that it is perfectly fine to quit. In fact, she urged you turn back the moment things go above your level. The question now is how will you proceed?
