The manor's architecture is Victorian in style. Designed with both essential elegance and advancements in the history of engineering, as well as modern extravagances, the estate provides additional enjoyment for its residents. In addition to its two stories, the house has its own tower, which has been modernized rather than being reminiscent of the Victorian era. It is here that Stellaluna lives with her companion(s) Silas and Essa (NPCs). A unique Dojo, located in the west wing of the palace, is used frequently by Stellaluna for her training. Apart from the house, the rear of the property contains an expansive swimming pool surrounded by a lavish greenhouse filled with roses and different ponds of all shapes and sizes. A variety of wild creatures live nearby and protect the manor. These creatures do not attack the people who live there, but they will not think twice when it comes to intruders.

She was able to hear her own heartbeat. She could feel it pounding fast, too fast in her chest. It was the only thing she knew was real. And Deus it hurt. The female Kamyuja clung to the pain in her heart. With each hammer blow, it ripped and twisted inside, as if it was about to combust. She tried to slow her frantic, savage breathing, but it didn't work. Her heart continued to pound against her ribs, and the pain washed over her in waves. The darkness was complete. It pressed in on her, and silhouettes loomed in the darkness, contorting and changing shapes with no form. She pressed her eyes against them, against the physical discomfort, and felt herself fade away. She was tumbling dizzily away from the pain as she fell down that intoxicating, drug-influenced, well. The darkness stretches into the distance, like a nightmare express train, and colours adorned and danced in behind her eyelids. She couldn't hold on to the pain anymore. It faded from her in slow, thumping pulses that grew duller with each beat. Then she was back in nightmare land, though she knew this was no dream. All other sensations shattered as she felt herself twist inside out, and then she was there. She screamed in terror, and her staccato voice echoed before fading into the distance. Twisted hands reached out and grabbed her by the head, arms, and feet. Faces snarled at her from this hellhole – this living horror show. She flinched away, knowing they weren't real but powerless to stop them. She screamed and struggled as they ripped and tore at her, painfully restoring her eyes, pining them with syringes and tugging them here and there, making them new but punishing and torturing her in the process. She could smell drugs, sedatives, sweat, and rot; she could even smell her own blood. She could hear their maniacal laughter and the shivering scrape of their rubbery fingers. She noticed how their expressions shifted and changed. She tried to call out, to shout, but her throat constricted raspingly. There was no sound. The sensation faded, leaving her unaware of everything except the constant pounding that shivered her in deep rolling waves. And then she was back again. Her searing lungs sucked in the darkness's air. Her heart was still thudding too hastily, but the pain was easing now. She rolled over the crest of all that pain, exhaled again, then inhaled hard, allowing the oxygen to flood into her. She attempted to move, but it was impossible. The darkness had her enslaved. But at least she was back, out of there, out of the terrifying alternate reality of the hallucination. Her heart rate slowed slightly more, and the pain faded slowly, like a frustratingly slow pool draining out, giving her a chance to think again. When the female attempted to move, her arms flopped languidly. Pins and needles jangled up and down between her forearm and wrist, but it was something; it was something other than the pain under her ribs. She raised her head an inch, and it jarred back onto the hard surface. The deeper darkness engulfed her once more, and she panicked, fearing she'd lose consciousness again, which was the last thing she wanted. The numb itch ran up and across her shoulders, then down the length of her. The return of sensation, any sensation, sparked hope. She tried the arm again, and this time it did her bidding lazily and torpidly. It was too dark to see, but her fingers brushed against her cheek, her leaden arm tingling all the while. They resembled fingers. Human, if stiff and sluggish. And as they came back to life, so did her memory. It was hazy and shadowy, and then it vanished. But she was aware of what had occurred. And they said she'd be asleep when they did the surgery. But she was aware of it all, the pain, the hallucinations, and her overactive imagination. She finally tried to raise her head again. Sharp pain flared up in her neck, but it wasn't enough to make her give up, so she forced herself up. Nausea pressed against her insides for a brief moment before dissipating. Stellaluna had been in a dark, dank room for ten days and ten nights, more like ten years, with a bandage over her eyes. When she took them off after stumbling blindly along the wall for too long and finally reaching another corner, her knuckles struck a door handle. Relief bubbled up like a spring, and she breathed in, and the unorganized jumbled thoughts began to untangle. When she turned around, the light hit her square in the eyes. She clenched her teeth against the glare and blinked back tears. Her spinning vision cleared in a flash, and she looked down at her hand over the door handle, and. She gave a grunt, finally finding freedom on the other side...

The water lapped at her skin like a thousand tongues, soothing the sting of her aggressive wounds. Her knuckles whitened as she curled her fingers around the edge of her antique clawfoot bathtub, and the ice-cold water sloshed around as she settled and relaxed. Her breathing became more rapid as the coldness robbed her of her ability to breathe, and she stiffly stretched back into the icy water, her fingers up to her nose and cheeks. As the water ran over her head, she gasped and sputtered water out of her mouth, reliving in shock as the water touched sore spots. She blinked the water from her lashes as she struggled to focus on anything other than the pain. And slowly, she removed her hands from her face, took a deep breath and sank her head to the bottom of the bathtub.

Her heartbeat pounded in her ears, and she could hear it. The echoing beat reminded her that she was alive and that she was currently living without the ability to breathe. Her body stiffened as she rested against the tub's slab, as the shock of being plunged into such conditions overtook her body's behavioral responses. She centralised as she gazed up at the ceiling, eyes open beneath the water. She was aware that, as a Kamyuja, her lung capacity was significantly greater than that of a regular human. For that reason alone, she didn't waste a single moment, despite taking a bath to relieve her distress.

Currently, she could hold her breath for about...six minutes, which was not inordinately long. It was time to improve that. Her lungs were currently burning, and she felt a heavy pressure on her chest. Rather than panicking, she held out and focused on the next task, summoning her chakra and applying a light coating to the insides of her lungs. She understands the dynamics of how lungs function, such as how the smallest airways end in the alveoli, which are thin air sacs arranged in clusters like bunches of balloons. She also knows that when one breathes in by expanding the chest cage, the "balloons" enlarge as air rushes in to fill the vacuum; once one breathes out, the "balloons" relax as air moves out from the lungs.

However, how does one keep the air in as long as possible? That was the query. The most common misconception about holding one's breath is that you're running out of air — you're not. Part of this is learning to slow ones breathing and increase one's intake during inhalation. However, holding one's breath is difficult and risky because carbon dioxide accumulates in one's blood as a result of not exhaling. Was she excluded from this danger because she was a Kamyuja? She listened with her eyes closed.

She immediately noticed a decrease in her heart rate. She wasn't disoriented yet, and she knew she'd been under for a while, but she didn't experience any other side effects. Perhaps this was because she was motionless. Or, it was due to the chakra she'd applied to her lungs. In any case, she knew she had reached the six-minute limit. She slowly began to rise, and when her head broke the surface of the water, she spluttered to get air into her lungs. Only to realise she didn't need to force the air in. It just happened. Was the event a success? She was confident.

Her entire body was now numb, and every movement sent pins and needles through her as blood flowed through frozen limbs. Her body was jolted by the unexpected pain, and she couldn't stop the jerk. But she clenched her teeth together, trying to hold back the yelp that was about to escape. She sat stiffly, barely daring to breathe. The pain was so intense that she couldn't even move her toes. She massaged her hands over her skin, her breasts excruciatingly painful as she tried to restore colour to her body. The pale, almost blue skin tone was disheartening.

She lowered herself back into the water, sucking in a massive lungful of air as soon as the pins and needles subsided and her skin regained some colour. Water had covered her head, and she was once again holding her breath. She was aware of her body's adaptability and ability to survive without additional oxygen for at least six minutes, if not longer. But now, she wanted to broaden it. This technique had to be more than just not breathing underwater. She could certainly use this in and out of the water; after all, if she had to name this technique, she would call it: eternal breathe.

Anyway, now that she was upskilling her arsenal again, she kept her oxygen level steady in the tub, knowing that any further movement would quickly deplete that oxygen. She learned to recognise the sound the water makes when her ears finally pop as she lounged beneath it. It made a sloshing sound, with an occasional bang if something moved within the liquid mass. However, as she remained motionless, all she could hear was her heartbeat and nothing else. She wondered how long she could go without passing out or suffocating. Such depressing thoughts, but nonetheless critical.

Humans are not designed to live suffering some form of oxygen deprivation. But she knew she had to take a chance if she wanted to increase her breathing limit. Step one was to take a deep, full breath. She was already aware of this. She'll be moving on to the next step soon: Diaphragmatic breathing. Something simple to take into consideration before she hits the rough currents of the open sea.

The sound of the bathroom door smashing open startled the Kamyuja. She jerked up to cover her privates as she turned to face Silas, who was leaning towards her, his face a thundercloud. "Are you trying to kill yourself?! Goddamit woman, if you want to die, come to me. I'll gladly put you out of your misery! " As he reached in and lifted her out, he roared. "Fuck, your freezing! What's the deal with all this ice? Oh." As he placed her on her feet and wrapped a towel around her, the Kamyuja froze in his arms, fuming. "I didn't notice anything." He stated. "Get. Out." She, on the other hand, snarled.

Something inside her chest jerked, and the water she swallowed came vomiting out. She was furious because she knew Silas saw everything. She placed her glass down and wiped her lips, closing her eyes. Irritated with herself and wishing she could kill him but knowing deep down that she wouldn't. Instead, the Kamyuja struggled to concentrate on step two: diaphragmatic breathing, but her agitated mind wouldn't let her begin.

She once again laid down on her back, but this time the fresh air coming in through the open french doors caressed her skin as she placed one hand on her chest and the other on her stomach. Getting comfortable and with her eyes still closed, she took in her first deep breath, feeling her stomach move outward. She exhaled slowly, lightly pressing her stomach in the process. She repeated the process as soon as most of the air had left her lungs. In. Hold. Out.

Taking in air, holding it, and then releasing it. The diaphragm is a vital muscle in the process of breathing. This technique aids in retraining this muscle to function more efficiently. The female only hoped she didn't fall asleep she was so relaxed. With her shoulders relaxed and a hand on her chest and stomach, she inhaled deeply through her nose for about two seconds until she felt her stomach move outward more than her chest. Then, with pursed lips, she slowly exhaled, pressing slightly on her abdomen. This was a good way to settle her nerves, and mood, she discovered.

The Next Day.

She felt herself twist in mid-air, then suddenly plummet into the water. The cold of it took her breath away. The world spun as she was tossed in the turbulence under the falls, head up one instant and tumbled upside-down the next. And all the time, her lungs were crying out for air. The icy, watery darkness closed in on her as she felt her vision start to fade. Her legs jerked in a spasm of panic, and her arms flailed.

One hand touched something slick that moved with a muscular flex against her clawing fingers, and a dread worse than the fear of drowning ripped through her. Her mouth opened, her lungs began to suck and then her head broke the surface and instead of cold river water flooding inside her, she gasped cool air through her rasped throat. The female managed to draw in two breaths. On the third attempt, she slipped under the water again, and the worlds came out all bubbly and distorted. Cold fingers took a grip on her belly and squeezed slowly. Her body was having trouble regulating its temperature.

Like a cold hand, it also clamped over her heart, sending ice into her veins. Now, this was a test of a lifetime, and more than her life flashed behind her eyes. It was like she was trapped in a merry-go-round with no way out. Her chest ached from the swallowed frigid water and bruised from battered rocks. But she had gained enough air to hold onto until the current eases enough to release her from its grip. Sluggishly, she considered applying chakra to her lungs, just in case the current didn't let up its torture on her any time soon.

She centred her attention and hoped that all of her breathing exercises had paid off. She didn't want this river to be her watery grave. Her entire body was unresponsive; she couldn't feel anything, which terrified her. The water was much colder than the ice in her bathtub, and with all of the twists and turns, she had no idea what was up and what was down. Surprisingly, as she held her breath, the panic seemed to subside slightly. And her open eyes were no longer burning. Her eyes moved in their sockets without turning her head, dizzy, nauseated, but fighting for survival, she searched for the surface.

Her head broke the surface, and her arms shot out, fingers scratching anything for traction. Her eyes were blinking, and her head was spinning as she struggled to breathe. But she was too weak to hold on to the rock she was clinging to, and she felt her body sink back into the water. Terror gripped her, and her heart momentarily stopped. She tumbled down the river once more, her head back under. She didn't get enough air into her lungs, but she hadn't stopped harnessing chakra to them either.

Her chest felt expanded, but she was worried she wouldn't be able to free herself from the water's grasp. Her head collided with the rocky floor after turbulence tore at her. And darkness engulfed her. She was about to drown.

...Shadows, so deep, there was no end.
A drip could be heard.
Drip. Drip, drip, drip.
This was total darkness. The Kamyuja's eyes opened, and she glanced around; at the light that glowed around something familiar. Her steps were shaky as she approached the light, arms raised and out in front of her. She couldn't see them because the darkness was too dense. But there's that glow. It was hovering over a familiar object. A home. Lady Volpuia’s residence. The nightmare house.
She then heard the screams.
Terror, agony, and death. No. She was not going to die today…

She blinked again, and the watery grave greeted her. She was locked in a staredown with a fish.

She had not only reawakened, but she was also drowning. With lungs full of freezing water, the terror kicked in full force, and she kicked up to the surface, body shaking as it siege on her. However, she kicked anyway, strongly as adrenaline gave her the strength. She swam blindly until her fingers ripped through the water's surface, followed by her hands and arms. When her head finally made contact with the sky. She dragged air in greedily. In between gasps, she coughed. Her eyes widened in anxiety at her near death, and this time she didn't let go of the bank's edge. Instead, she pulled. Pulled until she coughed and vomited the water onto the land's pebble surface.
She made it. Just.

It was several minutes before she could move. Finally, she turned herself over, feeling her wet clothes drag at her, and managed to get an elbow under her side to force herself up far enough to sit. Tears blinded her and her ribs hitched jerkily. She used the back of her hand to clear her vision and, when she had done so, looked at the water. It was black as death down there. Away from the turbulence, right below the cataract, the water moved slowly, still waters running very deep.

As she watched, there was a swirl in the waters, as if something big and fast had surged up from the bottom and turned just below the surface. She got a flash of black shadow, then it was gone. But it had been fast. And it had been big. As she backed away from the water, she tripped, felt something curl around her ankle, and then the dread settled in. It was too late, and it happened quickly. Her breath was taken as the water once again closed over her head.

Whatever had her pinned to the bottom of the river had taken her down in seconds. She didn’t bother to struggle, knowing that without knowing what it was, would be pointless. What she did instead was try and control herself despite the horror of being trapped within the waters with no air to support her. Even though her body wasn't resistant to its frozen bite, she knew that even at this temperature she would survive. Blind, she couldn't see a damn thing, but that didn't stop her from unravelling what was wrapped around her ankles with her fingers.

As soon as she felt it, she ruled out that it wasn't weeds or eels. Yet its grip was incredibly strong, and it pulsed as it tightened. It was almost like her own Kamyuja strength. She was relieved to discover, however, that they weren't fingers. She relaxed, coming to realise that if she didn’t focus on herself first, she will drown. She was torn however if she didn’t fight, not only will she drown, but if that didn’t kill her, the temperature or the creature in this river will.

As she concentrated, she bit her lip. In her lungs, her chakra awoke like a spring. Her throat and eardrums were coated as well. The burning sensation was replaced by an invisible glow emanating from her chakra. When it expanded in her lungs, she found herself having an easier time holding her breath. As of now, she could hold on for ten minutes, but she needed to increase that limit.

Keeping her eyes closed, she felt around the rocky floor for anything she could use as a weapon. As she pulled at the pulsing thing wrapped around her ankles, she applied pressure and her nails as well. The creature didn't like how her nails prickled as she dug them in, but whatever had her had a skin that seemed as tough as steel. A broken nail wasn't an option, so when she grasped the loose rock, she slammed it down on the thing holding her instead.

Upon hammering the thing, she not only hit the pulsating rope but also nipped her skin. This alone made her gasp out loud. Air quickly found its way inside her mouth, but instead of panicking as she had before, she simply closed her mouth, groaned and shifted her legs back and forth vigorously until the thing let go of her. As soon as she was free, the current took her away. She opened her eyes and saw what had her pinned and terror gripped her.

As the current carried her down the rocky slope, she heard her shriek. The rocks literally ripped at her, but the pain was dulled not only by the cold but also by the terror of what now swam towards her. The river was massive, as wide as it was deep, but this creature belonged in a lake, not the tides of a river. How did an aboleth end up in the middle of this popular tributary?! Now that this creature has made the waters it’s home, no water rafting should be permitted.

She didn't take her focus away from the creature, but she did notice a few things that were concerning. One, her lungs started to burn, and as she rubbed her fingers against her neck, she could feel the strain, the veins bulging out beneath her skin. She dared to hope that no air bubbles had made their way beneath her skin. Her chakra and body chemistry might solve the problem, but there was still a risk.

Secondly, the current of the river had not only increased in speed, but the turbulence had yanked her around like an inflorescence petal in a whirlpool. She had no choice but to face it, so she shifted her gaze away from the creature and towards the turbulent current that was carrying her. She cried. As she broke the surface, she was filled with half water and half air. Her scream was cut short as she inhaled a lungful of air. The current brought her down, but now that her lungs were recharged, she noticed she had other problems.

What she glimpsed, she would have thought ‘Pretty enough place’, but currently and in such circumstances, she thought ‘fuck I’m going to die! The tumbling water was going to be her watery grave after all. The valley she saw looked like a wide bowl, on top lovely, beneath ugly with jagged teeth; carved thousands of years ago and surrounded on all sides by hills that protected it from the west and north winds, while she was located on the east. She tumbled down the whitewater, approaching not only a small series of falls but also knowing that at the very end was a massive one: a waterfall.

Stellaluna felt her stomach sink to stone and her throat tighten against the gagging sensation of both fear, and that of the frozen water she managed to unwillingly swallow before now wanting to come back up. The movement of her will happened so smoothly and naturally that Stellaluna did not consciously react to it, but she was not operating on a conscious level. Her whole self now functioned on pure fight instinct as the most primitive animal part of her brain awakened and sparked its urgent commands. Her eyes saw the motion. At any other time, she would have stood in wonder, fascinated, perhaps thrilled. This time her body threw itself away, as a mighty surge of alarm shrieked through her.

Even as she moved, even as she felt the presence of the creature still swimming toward her, her eyes never left the waterfall. When something cool, pulsing and steel-like, brush up against her, the act of raising her head didn’t cause her to lose the remaining amount of air in her lungs. In the end, she rode the waterfall down. The little ones, she couldn’t get enough air to enter her lungs, however when the big waterfall happened, not only was she able to breathe in some air, momentarily as she went down, she, in the momentum of calmness, rode on top of the aboleth, ignoring its tentacles and its angry, energy. As soon as the fall completed and water entombed her head once more. She tore away from the creature, secretly thanking it for being her life board, but now only wishing to get the hell away from it and out of the bloody water.

Her head broke the surface, and she swam, breaststroke toward the rocky edge. The water was beyond freezing now and despite she hadn’t mastered expanding her lungs beyond the limit of fourteen minutes, she did, however, pass the limit of ten. She felt like she was halfway, in between ten and fourteen. Much practice was needed. Once she was on sure, and she struggled to put distance between herself at the watery depths. She relaxed for the first time.

Panting so hard, her chest tight, burning. She was shaking but alive. The ice-cold sensation twisted itself inside of her and flared into a white heat. A strangled gasp coughed out through clenched teeth and instant tears sparked in her eyes. Something else touched her and stroked numbness into her skin and a different pain hissed throughout her, but the freezing water was gone. All of this happened in mere seconds, a heightened awareness of something personal and not trained, but she was aware of her very panicked breath as it came out in short feverish gasps, the fear slowly subsided but the pain remained.

Her heart kicked like an angry jaguar, wild and free behind her breastbone. Yet the pain she continued to feel drilled down the nerves of her spine. Despite her exhausted state, she came to realise that she was on the wrong side of the bank. Between her and freedom of home was the waters she most dreaded. Her heart took another jolt and she felt the blood circle her entire body in that second. It was a struggle to sit up, but as she stared down into the waters and found them clear, it was her choice this time to enter the frozen waters.

She had to kick vigorously just to keep her head above water. And she was tired, bone-tired, the sick kind of tired. But she didn’t want to be caught out when night came. All chilled to the bone, death will come and take her to hell. She waded out into the pool, testing the currents. Finally, then, did she apply summoned chakra to her lungs before sinking below the surface. Just like before the current took her. She had to fight it or go downstream. But she was so tired, after a few strokes, she knew it was a losingloosing battle. She gave up.

She didn’t know what she was going to do, the current was simply too strong to battle. She wasn’t a strong swimmer, and this temperature was slowly killing her. It was her bloodline that was keeping her alive, all the muscles, cells, the step-up evolvement of simpleness. Her tank self, in a slim form, was all that was keeping her from flatlining. Out of nowhere, turbulence rocked her. The jerk took her from one side of the river to the other in seconds, the jolt viscous on her batted body. Even her eyes jerked like a fag doll from one side to the other, like a whoosh!

She dread what was coming. And then it happened: another fucking waterfall. She felt more than saw her head smash against the rocks, and her bones break, she heard them. A wail of pure desperation leapt out of her. Muffled beneath the waters, but then her head broke out, she saw greenery, and the crest of the waterfall, and then all hell broke loose. She felt her entire body cringe in dread.

With nerves above the crest at the bottom of her spine twitched with the tension, powerful turbulence whiplashed her out of the water, and with her whole body and mind numb, all she was aware of was the dizzy looping sensation. Green, brown and white whirled bewilderingly around her. The side of the river here was so steep that she crashed through the branches of overhanging trees that rooted over the waterfall. Instinctively her hands grabbed at the leaves and twigs but her fingers only succeeded in tearing the leaves away.

A branch swiped her face so hard it felt as if she’d been ripped to the bone. There was a roaring in her ears as if her heart were beating inside her head. She came plummeting forward and hit a long horizontal bough, which caught her low down on her back. The sudden bolt of pain was indescribable. From there she was flipped over the branch, flopping like a puppet whose strings had been cut, then fell straight down through a tangle of overhanging leaves. She hit the water with enough force to send a fountain twenty feet in the air and the shock of it knocked out what breath was left in her lungs and she plunged deep into the pool.

One would think all that would have killed her. A normal person, certainly. Her eyes opened and she saw a dark shimmering world around her. She did not realise she was back in the water. She lifted an arm and saw it float, pale and wavery, in front of her eyes. A far off part of her mind assumed she was dead and, in that little corner, she wondered dreamily why being dead was so sore. The pain soared up from her back on slow billows of fire, reaching white heat, then easing down to an unbearable burn.

She tried to breathe and found she could not. Something cold forced its way down her throat and tried to freeze out the pain, but it kept on burning there like a blowtorch. Consciousness swam back again with the slowness of a daydream, she replayed her tumble through the trees, through the river, then suddenly, she was drowning. Dread propelled her to the surface, relieved that her legs worked. However, she paused. Realising almost gleefully that she had been under longer than fourteen minutes.

The cold flooded into her, but with a chakra barrier, did not enter into her lungs. Happiness overrode the pain and terror and an eternity later, or so it seemed, her head broke the surface. Blinding stars were dancing crazily in front of her eyes, one slow blink, cleared her vision and she slowly, painfully, swam to the right side of the river. Crawling up the bank was a mission in itself, but after a moment she made it. She did not rest however until she was home.

She thought that after all the pain, all the terror the river had put her through, she would be put off the water for life. However, that hadn’t been the case. Currently, her head was buried beneath the waters of her backyard pool, she held her breath for six minutes, ten minutes, and finally, after such ease, fourteen minutes before she began to feel the discomfort of not breathing. She studied the following discomforts she felt with a more calculated mind: tense muscles, pounding headache, a slower heartbeat, general discomfort and tightness in areas, particularly her chest.

If she were to push too hard, too long, she would feel nauseous, confused, and compelled to breathe in. Other discomforts would involve the panic of not breathing at all that the mind begins to play tricks, and if not careful, fainting spells and such would soon follow. Beneath the waters, however, she was calm. There was no rough current to battle against, the water was heated to a nice temperature and not of the freezing waters fed by glaciers or ice.

She was relaxed, torturing herself to try and reach eighteen minutes, the maxim acquired that would master the entire of this practice. But naturally, the practice would have to take time and could not be rushed. She studied everything, after all, her heart and health was a risk, as was her body. One doesn’t think of the risks they put through when it comes to the body. But she does, she calculates everything, studying, searching for the safest, easiest way. Anything to become stronger.

To the untrained lung, holding one’s breath would be as follows: from zero to thirty seconds, one might feel relaxed as they close their eyes and tune out the world around them. Easy, simple. From thirty seconds to two minutes, one might start to feel uncomfortable pain in the lungs. From there, they might struggle. It is the most common misconception about holding one’s breath, that ‘you’re running out of air’ which is not true - she discovered this personally.

Apparently, learning to slow one’s breathing and increase the intake during inhalation is part of this, however, holding one’s breath is difficult and dangerous because of carbon dioxide, which is building up in the blood from not exhaling. For a simple person, untrained, or simply not superior; from two to three minutes, the stomach starts to rapidly convulse and contract. Apparently, this is because the diaphragm, which is a thin skeletal muscle that sits at the base of the chest and separates the abdomen from the chest, is trying to force you to take a breath.

The purpose is, it contracts and flattens when inhaled, and this creates a vacuum effect that pulls air into the lungs. When exhaling, the diaphragm relaxes and the air is pushed out of the lungs. Thank the mother of all mothers, this hadn’t happened to her. Despite her river experience, all she managed to do was unwillingly drink the river, and expel it later. Not a safe thing to happen, but she survived.
