Torakkingu Nioi (Tracking Scent)
Rank: D
Skill: Skill
Effect: An animal companion hones their sense of smell to such levels that they may track an opponent.
Special: N/A
Drawback: Certain animals cannot progress to the higher levels of this technique do to their lack of acute scent abilities. Animals with unremarkable scent abilities, such as the bird, can only learn up to the B ranked version of this technique.
Description: The user of this technique gathers their natural scent abilities, using them to track an opponent. The animal catches the scent of the tracked object or person, and from there follows the scent trail. With the D ranked version, the user can only track a scent ten days old. This technique may be used to track humans, objects, or even herbs. However, when tracking an herb or poison, the user can only track an herb or poison of the same rank of as their current level of this technique. The user can only track an herb they have encountered in the past. The user must have encountered either a poison itself or the components making it up in the past in order to track it. This technique increases the user’s chance of finding an herb by five percent. This amount increases by a further five percent at each rank, so an D rank user has their chance of finding an herb increased by five percent. The user can track an opponent over various terrains, including grassland, hard earth, and undisturbed snow and sand, and still water. When tracking another human being, the user has a thirty percent chance of catching a scent while in the same region, or a ten percent chance while in an adjacent region. A user must have at least one post between each post asking for a scent roll. This percentage increases by ten at each rank, so the D ranked version of the technique allows the user a thirty and ten percent chance, respectively. Once a scent is successfully caught, and the user is in the same region as the tracked victim, the user has a twenty percent chance of finding them. This percentage increases by ten for each rank of this technique learned, so the D ranked version offers a twenty percent chance.
Limit: Must have at least fifty training points with animal companion beyond Control, Teamwork, Understanding, and Friendship.

Raikou frowned. He was supposed to find something... he was supposed to find something he only knew the scent of... blindfolded... his father had returned home and made a point of getting this training done.
"You want to try for the chunin exams already? You haven't even met your team yet!" His dad had said, but Raikou nodded anyway. He didn't want to wait for longer waiting for the chunin exams to roll around again or he was going to get really board really quickly. He could tell that this would be a burden to wait for... he had come so far in such a short amount of time and was willing to put his skills to the test to progress as quickly as possible!
"Alright... if you really want to go, then you've got to learn the basics of the Inuzuka bloodline... the ancient art of-"
"This isn't going to have bad side effects is it?" Raikou asked. His father sighed and smiled and ruffled up Raikou hair.
"Don't worry, this one's safe. This is the ancient art of tracking." Raikou blinked. Wasn't that a dog thing? "I know what you're probably thinking... isn't that a dog thing?... well, for us Inuzuka's it's also a shinobi thing! And because Aya might not always be around, you'll need to trust your nose and follow it as though it was Aya's nose and Aya needs to trust your nose like it was hers..." Raikou was really confused now... Raikou knew the nose was important for an Inuzuka... but what was he going on about? All Raikou wanted to know was how to track something!
"Alright, so you'll need to put this on!" Zane smiled. Raikou grabbed the cloth and put it over his eyes like a blind fold. "Alright, how you need to smell this." Zane said holding something close to his nose. Raikou blinked. It was a nice smell.. It smelt kinda like a rose... However, it was stronger... Raikou smelled it and memorized the scent. "You got it?" Zane asked. Raikou smiled and nodded. "Good! Alright, now stay here and I'll hide it!" Zane said. He left and Raikou was left to wait for what seemed to be hours... alright... so it was more like fifteen minutes, however, it felt like hours to Raikou! Suddenly, Raikou heard footsteps land beside him. "Alright boy! Use your nose!" He said smiling... or Raikou assumed since he couldn't see his father. "don't forget, smell falls to the ground, I made you wait for a reason, all the smell should have landed by now, so don't feel bad about getting dirty!"
Raikou groaned and put his nose near the ground. He focused his chakra to his nose and smelled. There it was! If he had used his regular nose he wouldn't have smelt it, but with this chakra enhanced nose, he could smell where the scent had been! Raikou smiled and followed the scent. It was a lot like a hotter-colder game where you would move towards something and the smell would get stronger and you'd move away from it and the smell would get weaker. Raikou moved this way and that following the line that was the smell of the rose thing. Raikou bumped his head into something and grabbed his forehead.
"Owww!" Raikou said. He'd need to be more careful about what was ahead of him... Raikou reached out and felt the thing he bumped into... it was a stair... Raikou sighed and shook his head. leave it to dad to get stairs involved when he was blindfolded... Raikou shook his head and climbed up the stair... Raikou frowned when there weren't anymore. What was this... a platform? Raikou frowned. He hadn't been aware of any platforms... Raikou crawled forward and his right hand didn't connect with anything! Raikou felt his right hand drop and he was sent tumbling down. There was a solid connection as he hit something wet and fell through. Where was he? Raikou surffaced and took a deep breath of air and took off the blindfolds.
"Surprise!" Zane yelled. "Look at the new pond that we had installed! We were saving from the missions your mother and I have been on and we finally got to have it done while you were out training today! How do you like it?"
"Dad! I'm gonna get you!" Raikou laughed as he climbed out of the pool and started chasing Zane.
"hahaha! You're going to have to run faster than that!" Zane yelled back to his son.
"FOUR LEGS TECHNIQUE!" Raikou yelled.
"Ahhh! Too fast! Four Legs Technique!" Zane laughed.
