That had been a good adventure and the Instant Spark a classic for him. The other lightning jutsus all had their own stories as well, as Genju continued his reminiscences. The day after learning Instant Spark, his master introduced him to a bunch of other students who had been studying lightning in their own ways.
Gathered together, his master went over the instructions for a new jutsu called Lightning Ball. “I'll show you the basics and then you guys can play tag with it. Last man standing wins.” Everyone nodded, for they all respected Sayoran's teaching style. “Alright, lets get started. I'll show it to you three times. Then your on your own. Oh and before I forget, the prize is access to my secret stash.” At this announcement everyone's eyes lit up, for Sayoran had a legendary stash filled with all sorts of items.
With rapid succession Sayoran formed the hand seals causing a ball of glowing blue energy to form in his hand. The pulsating orb crackled like it were alive, yet it did not affect the man's hand. Shrugging his shoulders and arching his eyebrow, Sayoran looked around until finally a bird cawed, flying low overhead. At this signal he wound up and threw it like a pitcher hitting the bird dead on. The energy quickly circulated through the bird's nervous system shutting down. Unable to flap it fell towards the earth.
His master was not a cruel man and with a quick shunshin, he caught the bird gingerly. Speaking slowly,he said, “This is the power of paralysis.” A couple students looked uneasy as he added, “Don't worry. The bird is fine. It was just a little demonstration. For those of you who don't know paralysis numbs the body making you unable to react. So it's best to not get hit with it.”
One student quipped a remark, “The game of tag you were speaking of...”
“Ah, right.” he said, “The ruled have been modified. Everyone is it and your out when you get hit with a Lightning Ball. Any questions?” he waited for anyone to respond. “Good, then let me show it to you two more times.” True to his word, he did it slower and slower so that everyone could see the signs. “Let the game begin then.” Sayoran jumped up onto a tree, placing the bird in its nest as the students rose and looked at each other uneasily.
Genju moved first, eager to get to see the stash. He formed the hand seals and focused on his hand. The lightning formed in the palm of his master's hand, so chakra must flow there. Realigning his chakra network, he focused on generating a ball of lightning in his hand. The hairs on his arm rose, charged by the energy as a golf ball size bolt of energy flowed around. The noise it made was fairly loud all things considered. Looking around he saw that some of the students had also begun forming the ball. Well it was tag. Seeing a boy forming a ball to his left, he let loose, the unaware student getting pegged in the arm. The energy surged up and down his body, shutting down his nerves and he dropped to the ground, twitching. The ball of energy he had dissipated like it never was.
A quick look around showed that several other students had also fallen to the ground. Jumping up, a ball barely missed his lower leg as the energy impacted the snow, leaving an impression. Seeing the kid who threw it, Genju zig zagged back and forth as he focused hard on his chakra, willing it to form into controllable lightning. When it formed, he hurled it as his opponent did likewise, the two bolts clashing in the air. His was bigger and thus stronger piercing through it , hitting the kid dead on in the chest. He liked this jutsu. Over eager, he tried it again going for an even bigger ball, softball size amount of lightning. As he finished forming it, holding it in one hand, a ball of light narrowly missed to his left. Another came from his right. Ducking and dodging he hurled it hitting another person, this one twitching even more. It seemed more lightning made a difference in impact. As the game continued on for the better part of an hour, Genju made a mistake in forming the lighting. He had almost finished completing a ball when he dodged by leaning backwards, only to lose his balance. Struggling to maintain his balance, he hit himself with his own ball. As the current flowed through him and his kaishin bloodlimit, he lost all feeling, falling to the ground. “Tsk, tsk,” said Sayoran. “Better luck next time Genju,” as he was lifted off to the side of the field where the others were. He did not recall much else about the game, his brain extremely relaxed and him out of focus.
