Neoku had been hanging around the civilian’s quarters of the base for the duration of half an hour. He’d been looking for potential builders that could assist him on his personal mission. Normally, he’d never have volunteered for a non combat oriented mission. However, due to what this mission consisted of, he decided to make an exception. The village’s safety was important to him, if only slightly. So far, his appearance, or rather his presence, had frightened off many of the people he’d spotted. He decided to try and make his appearance less frightening. But as far as he could tell, those who had been frightened off had been young and perhaps weak.
After about another fifteen minutes, Neoku decided to move and walk farther within the base. It was then that he spotted a group of about fifteen gruff looking boys. They were all at least a few years older than him. When he approached the group, a few of their heads turned toward him. After a moment, they all looked back at each other and began to converse amongst themselves. That was a good sign. They hadn’t left yet, meaning he could at least manage to ask them a few questions. Before Neoku could open his mouth, one of the boys turned to him and said, “Do you need something?” His voice was rough and filled with a rude tone that grated his nerves.
With a bit of an edge, Neoku said, “In fact, I do. I’m on a mission, courtesy of the village. It would appear as though the village gates recently sustained some great damage. My first objective is to secure some builders. Enough to work on the gate and improve its defenses. My second objective is make sure who ever is building follows the blueprints that I will receive. These blueprints will note and document the most vulnerable areas on the gates, as well as the ways to improve them and make them more easily defended.” As he paused and allowed the boys to process the information, he surveyed their appearance. Of the boys before him, only a few of them appeared to have the muscle mass of builders. However, he realized that making such brash judgments could easily cost him later.
A moment passed, then Neoku said, “Now, are any of you builders by chance?” His voice was a little softer and less sharp when he asked this. “If so, please step forward. Though, I must warn you. If you come with me to rebuild/repair the gates, this will not be an easy job. I’ll expect nothing less than your best effort. Anything less will not be tolerated.” He noticed that as he said this, a few of the boys shot funny glances at him. He figured that they might have been amused by someone his age trying to issue warnings. To show that he was serious, he allowed his dark aura to surge for a moment. With his voice surging in a bit of flustered anger, he barked, “Do you think the security of your village is naught but a joke. Laugh when the village gates are breached and evaded. I imagine those of you who can not fight will die rather quickly.” There was no joking edge to his voice as he said this. It did manage to evoke the effect that he desired. It appeared as if all the boys before him were taking him seriously now.
After about five minutes, Neoku had managed to get 8 of the boys to agree to repair the gates. Dissapointingly, the rest were only apprentice craftsmen of the village and would be no help. With 8 builders by his side, It was possible to rebuild the village gates, but Neoku decided to look for more, perhaps older, more experienced builders to assist him. He continued his search in another portion of the civilians quarters.
