To say Tsunade is bold would be a gross understatement. She is not bold, but bold. Her total bravery is occasionally considered to be stubbornness or pigheadedness (both of which are indeed some of her personality traits). However, her bravery is not stupidity, but a desire to help.Appearance:
Tsunade likes to help. Because of this, she will often take matters into her own hands, providing aid in any way she sees fit. Unfortunately, these ways are often not seen fit by others (e.g. officers of the law). Because of this, she has gained a reputation as a vigilante. She likes to think of herself as a great hero, destined to help others and save the world. On the other hand, this helpfulness can also bring in a few less desirable traits.
Because of her dislike of people getting in her way, Tsunade can become stubborn. Although this can be considered perseverance in many people, this is untrue for her. She simply won't back down. Often, this will lead to fights over the simplest of things. However, her strong will, along with many people pitying her because of her blindness, means that she usually gets her way. This suits Tsunade just fine, although it can sometimes get her into trouble. The arguments she has with authority often get her in trouble. On the reverse, it is not Tsunade's own choice to get into trouble. Her religion tells her to.
From a young age, she has practiced a religion (name unknown) devoutly. This philosophy suggests that one should never back down, and constantly search for their god (who is referred to by Tsunade only as 'our saviour.' However, she apparently created both the religion and the god herself, a psychological anchor to give meaning to her ninja way. Although she herself does not know it, the 'saviour' she refers to is any goal that she strives for. Whether it is helping others (an important creed in Tsunade's 'Bible') or trying to improve one's self, everything is an important part of her life. This peculiar psychological facet has formed Tsunade's self, making her who she is today.
Despite the nomadic nature of the Shitakuma, Tsunade often yearns for a home. Almost since birth, she has wished for a real place to live. Luckily, she has been given that chance. Tsunade is also very personable. In other words, not only does she like being in a home, she also enjoys being with others. With her personality, she may not seem very personable. Still, she yearns for companionship, something she can not have in her own family.
At first glance, it is not clear Tsunade is a Shitakuma. Although it is clear she is blind, she has a slight green tint to her eyes, as opposed to the usual white of the Shitakuma. Although in most circles this would not be an issue, it brought up rumours of illegitimacy within the clan. For the most part, though, she resembles a true Shitakuma. Her jet black hair (a common trait) is tied up in a fairly tall bun, secured with a green and tan headband. To give her look some Shita flair, she secures this band with a pair of Soundballs. During ceremonies of Amegakure, she will substitute her headband for an official one from the village.Bloodlimit: Shitakuma (Silent Devil Bloodlimit)
Tsunade's clothing is fairly common for a traveler. She wears a regular sized kimono, light green in colour. Over this, she wears a tan sleeveless sweater-kimono, clipped at the right shoulder. She also wears a black belt around her waist, studded with gold nubs. During travel, she will wear a long cape, the same green colour as her kimono. She will also wear a swamp green hat, secured by a piece of fabric of the same colour. This hat is also worn with the outfit she uses for tournaments and other planned battles (Picture).
Tsunade also has a different outfit for Shitakuma ceremonies. It is identical to her regular clothing, save for the colouring. The tan is replaced with silver, the light green with crimson. Her hat is changed from a traveler's hat to a more prim looking one, with a sky-blue colouration. Both the cape and the vest bare the symbol of the Eye of Ra. These clothes are not worn during normal travel, since they are much more expensive and more important then her usual clothing.
Tsunade has 2 walking staffs, as well as one sensory pole. One staff is a very classic staff, a long piece of wood gnarled at the tip. During official Shitakuma business clansmen are expected to use only the staff and other jutsus to move along the ground. However, Tsunade (along with most members of the clan) use a Multi-Weapon stick, as well as a sensory pole to get an upcoming view. Usually Tsunade hits the Sensory Pole against the ground, folds it, and continues on for about 100 metres.

Tsunade's exact beginnings are unknown. Only 5 things are known about her birth and early life:
1. She was born to Himiko Shitakuma and an unknown male. Whether this man was a member of the clan or a regular person.
2. During this period, Himiko was talking a leave from the clan, making the exact parentage or even the man's village.
3. Tsunade's birth name was Toph Shitakuma.
4. Tsunade was never considered a true Shitakuma, and was thus shunned by the other members of the clan.
5. She showed a remarkable aptitude for the Earth Release.
Recording of Tsunade's life doesn't begin until she was about 6 years old. Tsunade (Toph at the time) was traveling with the central Shitakuma caravan, which was passing through the Rain Village. This is the first time she met the man who was to become her teacher, Jason Arilani. At this point, Toph was tired with the clan. From the exclusion to the bullying, she just wanted to get out. Although she begged to be allowed to train with Jason, it was instantly rejected. It crushed her.
That day, Toph turned... hard, her anger coming to a head. She became much more outgoing, and started disrespecting the elders of the clan. Throughout several towns, she hired several tailors (with money 'funded' from the Shitakuma treasury) to sew her new clothes, without the Shitakuma colours or emblems. Afterwards, she tried several times to escape, without success. To the elders of the clan, she was simply the hizoku (rebel) of the family. To those that met her on her various 'excursions,' she was the Buraindo Hizoku (Blind Rebel). Toph soon adopted this as her alias. Later, she discarded the name Toph altogether and called herself Tsunade, after the legendary hero.
Finally, the elders had had enough. They considered her... a problem. They debated back and forth for days about what to do with her. Some suggested simply letting her run off. Others believed it was better to simply punish her until she was subservient. Finally, it was one of the lower-ranked members who hit on the best choice: send her to Jason Arilani, the man who she had wanted to train with all along. First, however, she would need to train as a Rain shinobi. With the permission of Kenryoku (who was visiting relatives at the time), all was set. The next 6 months were a whirlwind of activity.
Tsunade learned everything she would need to know about being a regular ninja. She learned basic ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu. Finally, she was completely ready. In a brief (but official) ceremony, she was free of the clan (temporarily). However, she didn't have time to enjoy it. In a very 'here's your hat what's your hurry' manner, Tsunade was unceremoniously dumped in the Rain Village, left to her own devices. Now, she is heading out from Amegakure, trying to find the home of Jason Arilani.
