Standing on the beach, staff in hand, blind eyes staring endlessly across the ocean, Kazu contemplated its vastness. Each subsequent crashing wave illuminated the world for a brief moment, doing little but revealing just how desolate this patch of land was. It saddened him to know how people could stare at the sea and admire it's beauty, but that he himself would never be able to experience that sensation. Shaking his head, he cleared those thoughts from his mind. Best not dwell on things I can't change, he decided. Stripping himself of all but his undergarments, he prepared for the plunge into the icy water, and with a mighty leap threw himself at the churning water.
The initial shock took his breath away for a moment, so he had to frantically scramble to reach the surface. Once his head broke the surface he needed only a moment before taking another breath and plunging into the deep. This time, however, he did so with a purpose. With tightly shut eyes, he focused on the area in and around his airway and attempted to pool his chakra therein. Once a thorough coating of chakra had completely suffused his mouth and nose, Kazu tentatively attempted a breath. Unfortunately, the reflex to not breath underwater proved to be too strong for him to consciously overcome. Thus, he would have to force oxygen into his lungs to convince his subconscious that it was safe to breath. This proved to be a difficult task when he had to force chakra to line his entire airway and forcefully draw the oxygen out of the water around him, where he then transferred it directly to his lungs. As soon as this happened, relief flooded through him as his body began to breath through the oxygenated chakra unhindered.
As his confidence and his underwater time rose, he found himself venturing deeper into the abyss, using nothing but a clicking of his tongue to make sure he didn't swim into a reef. His progress was hindered, however, by a sudden sharp pain deep in the recesses of his inner ear. In response to this, he immediately flooded more chakra into the source of his discomfort in an attempt to quench the searing pain. It was rather obvious that external pressure from the weight of the sea was the cause, so naturally he would want to counter that pressure and regain a comfortable balance. Due to the fact that he had learned how to create chakra by forming it in his ears, it was rather easy for him to create and control the energy within his eardrums. Just a few minor adjustments in the concentration and amount of chakra in his ears and the pain finally subsided, and with a slight increase or decrease depending on his depth he was able to keep it away.
In his new found confidence at his success, he accidentally broke his concentration and allowed his eyes to snap open. The salt water stung his previously unnoticed, sightless orbs and caused him to writhe and jerk beneath the waves. He slammed his lids shut as hard as he could, but even that could not deter the biting liquid from tearing at his milky flesh. With nowhere else to turn, he decided to try the chakra already surrounding most of his face to spare him from his torture. Unfortunately, he had never had a need to use his eyes and was thus unversed in channeling chakra to them. From the chakra already covering his mouth and ears, he commanded tendril-like bits to extend from the pool and attach to his stinging eyes. Once the pain subsided, Kazu decided that he was finally able to relax without discomfort or worry of drowning, and so he turned his attention elsewhere.
