Genkaku had finally reached his training spot outside of the village. He hadn't been training for a while since nothing in the village currently called for him to learn anything more. But after traveling and seeing some impressive new Genjutsu he realized that it was time to start training again. After looking through some texts and talking with others who had an expansive knowledge of Genjutsu he found a good technique to restart his training. Magen: Suro'heki was a good D rank Jutsu to help him "get back into the game" and since he already knew the 1000 Shurikens technique, this could actually go by pretty quickly. Since Genkaku can't get anyone to train with him he had brought a collapsible full size mirror to see if he could cast genjutsu on himself. Before he could test to see if this would work, he decided to warm up.
For someone doing ninjutsu or taijutsu this would usually involve doing some stretching and a bit of exercise; but because Genkaku goes to the gym every other day and he specializes in Genjutsu, he finds the best way to warm up is to read. Reading helps to stimulate the mind which, he has actually found, is a good warm up for anyone going to practice genjutsu. Genkaku then takes out a book and begins reading. After reading about three chapters he checks the time, a half hour has passed. He then gets up, puts the book away, and sets up the mirror. "I need to make sure that this will actually work" he says to himself as he puts up the mirror. When he finally finishes he wipes off the dust to make sure that he can see himself completely. After that was through he performed a few handseals and used Tenrai Meimu: Gunshuku no Jutsu (complete disarmament technique) and looked at himself right in the mirror. He checked his hip and noticed that his sword was gone, and that his shuriken pouch was empty as well. "Good," he said "It works fine" He released himself from the genjutsu and began to work on the technique at hand.
When he uses the 1000 Shuriken technique he focuses his charkra into the sight perception area of the opponent's brain. When the charkra reaches the brain the opponent then thinks that he is wielding 1000 shuirkens and is ready to throw. He guessed that it would be the same here. He performed the ram handseal and looked at himself straight in the mirror, The charkra could then rebound and hit him in the though perception area. If he was right his reflection would be holding a kunai and when he motioned to throw it, his refection actually would. He got up and moved his hand towards his face then looked at the mirror. His refection was indeed holding something, but it wasn't a kunai. It just seemed to be a metal block. When he made a throwing motion, the block seemed to move out of the refection's hands but it more of a lobbing motion then an actual throw. Genkaku then released himself from the genjutsu and evaluated what had happened. He had not focused enough chakra to get the right figure of the kunai, nor to focus on how it is thrown. After thinking of a new way to do it, he tried again. He looked at himself straight in the mirror performed the ram handseal and focused his charkra. After waiting for half a minute he looked at his reflection.
He noticed that it had something in its hands but it wasn't exactly a kunai, it had the same shape and might be mistaken for one but it wasn't entirely detailed. Overall it just looked like a primitive Kunai. He then made a throwing motion and found that is reflection threw it right, but it was in the air for too long. He released and reevaluated himself and decided to give it one last try before going to get something to eat. He performed the ram sign, focused his chakra (with the image of a kunai and how it is thrown lodged into his head) and then looked at his reflection. It was a definite upgrade from the previous attempt but the reflection's kunai still looked pretty primitive. When he made the throwing motion it actually flew like a regular kunai. Realizing that he should get something to eat, he paused his training and decided to resume later.
