After eating lunch, Akira took a longer break than the other disciples. After all, he was doing more strenuous training than the rest of them, as simple as it was. A senior disciple, who often helped Kenishi if the master wanted him to, asked Akira if he wanted to test himself on the heavy dummy again. Akira shook his head and proceeded to go back to the weight room. He still had loads to work on before he thought himself ready to fully learn whatever technique it was that Kenishi wanted him to learn. And the requirements were to be able to kick the dummy away. And with his current leg strength, that was not possible at the moment, though Akira was confident that it would not stay that way for long.
"Got to grab something first."
Akira took a bottle with him on the way back. He did not want to be dehydrated after all. Then he entered the weight training room. This time around, he did not feel like training his legs with weights again. It was straining and hard to recover quickly, so he decided to work on something else and then start the weight training of his legs again. He looked around and decided upon a punching bag, though in this case, it was a kicking bag. Akira knew that this was no normal bag of sand, as it was a lot heavier than most and would not be easily swayed by a half hearted kick. Still, this was just what Akira wanted. It was not as heavy as the dummy in which his master tested him on, but it still weighed a good amount for Akira to train with.
Once I'm able to produce a great enough force on this, then I'll also have improved a great amount on that dummy.
Akira then started to kick the bag. He started with his right leg and slammed it against the sand bag with a normal kick to the side. It only moved a little with the force of his kick. He brought his leg back down and kicked at it again, using more force this time. The difference was very subtle and not anything noticeable. Akira sighed as he put his leg back down and slammed it again against the sand bag. He kept doing this for about 50 times with his right leg. After kicking that many times with little rest, his leg started to hurt. So he massaged his leg a little during a short break. Afterwards, he got up and got ready to use his left leg this time. He wondered if his left leg was as strong as his right. After slamming it against the bag, he could tell that it was more or less the same. Then he brought it down and started to kick the bag with all the force that he could muster.
He did this with the same number of times that he had done with his right leg. But this time there was a slightly longer interval between the consecutive kicks. So that gave his left leg a slightly better condition in terms of pain and skin damage. Akira looked at his shins and decided that doing leg lifts would not help to ease his condition that much at the moment. The skin had broken and there was a little blood, though he wrapped it up. Then he walked away from the sand bag and decided to go do some more squats, as there was nothing else for him to do until it was time to eat again. He approached the bar and added some more weight to each side of the bar. Every day, Akira would add some more weight, but not so much that his body would notice a great difference.
This isn't so bad.
So Akira picked up the bar and proceeded to start doing squats. Kicking so many times did hinder the speed of which Akira did his squats in, but not so much, as Akira’s legs were used to kicking after all. But the additional weight served to produce a greater strain on his muscles and he already started to feel tired not too long before he started. But he was not going to give in. The more one strained their muscles, the stronger the muscles would become, as long as one did not over do it and destroy the muscle. Akira knew his limit and he knew how much farther he could keep going on. The sun’s light started to turn a brilliant hue of orange when Akira finally set the bar down and laid down on a bench, with a towel over his head.
