In his days as a child, Akira remembered a particular time when he had learned to use a technique that was quite fun to use. He started to learn the technique when his parents thought that it was finally time for young Akira to learn how to swim. He was around eight years old at the time and the clan allowed the three of them to take a trip outside of the clan, one of the rare instances where they were let go, considering what they had done years back. The three of them journeyed around, seeing old friends, visiting places that contained powerful memories for his parents, but were boring to the little Kaishin. They traveled a great way around in Water Country, sometimes even visiting the other countries. Akira’s inclination to travel and wander around had its roots around this time period. Eventually, the three of them came across a great lake. Akira was told that a family friend lived there and that they were going to visit her.
The little Kaishin was dumbfounded. He did not think that someone could live in a lake. He never heard of such people and did not think that they could exist. Moreover, he had next to no idea on how to get to wherever that person lived. He did not even know how to swim. All of these worries swept over the young Kaishin’s body while his parents laughed at his anxiety. It was finally time for the young Kaishin to learn how to swim. Gently being led into the lake, arms joined together, Akira felt what it was like to float. It was certainly a different feeling, like he was on a cloud. Slowly, he moved onto learning how to kick to propel himself forward in the water. His parents took their time teaching their child, enjoying themselves as they did so. Then, he moved onto learning how to use his arms in a freestyle motion. After a while, he officially knew how to swim, something that he felt rather proud of, but he wished he could swim faster. But then, something else came into being and presented itself as an obstacle for the young Akira.
Upon learning how to dive, Akira could see how deep this lake truly was. He could not even see the bottom. This rather scared him and he surfaced quickly, not wanting to use up his air in the water. He asked his parents about how they were going to get down there if the bottom could not even be seen. They laughed again, telling their son to work on his swimming more before they would teach him how to. A little peeved, the young Akira agreed and went to practice. Over the course of a few days, Akira grew more and more accustomed to swimming, and diving. He even figured out other ways of swimming out of simple boredom. That’s when his parents finally decided to teach him the way to go all the way there, where they would be able to find their friend. Excited, Akira asked how they would be able to do it. He could not imagine his parents having the lung capacity to go down there, so he was expecting something epic. But what his parents taught him was a little different from what he expected it to be. However, it was just as useful.
His parents taught him how to breathe underwater. Apparently, there was a technique that allowed one to do so. All three of them went into the water, near the shallow section of the lake where Akira had first learned the basics of swimming. His parents showed Akira the correct sequence of hand seals for the technique and then performed them for him to see. The appearance was rather funny looking to Akira, who laughed a little. Then his parents put their heads beneath the water’s surface, not coming up for a long time, though Akira could tell that they were fine since they were waving their hands around above the surface of the water. When they came out, and released the technique, they then told Akira about the drawbacks of the technique, which was the resting period in between consecutive uses of the technique. Akira nodded as he memorized what his parents told him.
Now he would try the technique for himself. He gathered up a little chakra, and then started to perform the hand seals. He had a very good memory, so he performed them flawlessly. Afterwards, he could feel the changes in his face. He could feel the chakra going to his ears, protecting them, and to his eyes as well, creating cover for his eyes in the form of lens. The chakra went into his mouth, nose and lungs, enabling him to breathe underwater. Akira could not help smiling when he dived underneath. It was like a whole new world now. Akira’s parents dived soon after, taking their son’s hands as they went to the bottom of the lake. There, he saw a shrine. Understanding why his parents wanted to come here, he respectfully complied with tradition, bowing before the altar in memory of a dear friend of his parents. Afterwards, the three would go back up and then resume their traveling. But that specific travel had given Akira a skill that he would never forget.
