Personality:
If one were to describe Hizō the best word would be innocent. He is happy, kind, caring, curious, and in all aspects just a kid. Despite the troubled life he has lived he remains seemingly unaware of the corrupt perversions that plague the world [ it is unsure if this is simply an act ]; lust, scandal, betrayal, murder, things of that nature. When faced with those situations he often questions them, being unable to fathom how someone could be like that. Hizō is also a very confused boy, which is mainly due to the tragic incident with his uncle. The incident left him with severe mental trauma, which is gradually causing his mind to slowly deteriorate. Because of this he will at times randomly blurt out things, but seconds later will have no recollection of the event. Even before that event the situation with his mother and his life with his uncle forced him to repress several memories, which will usually reveal themselves to him if he is near one of his 'triggers.' When exposed to these 'triggers' he becomes a hysterical mess, and it is hard to predict how exactly he will react.
Appearance:
Unlike the majority of shinobi in Sunagakure, Kōin Hizō is consistently seen dressed in the exact same attire, with the local rumors nowadays suggesting that he can’t afford any other clothes. In truth, the boy has simply adopted such a fondness for his unique style of choice, which he judges to fall somewhere between Rugged Regalia and just plain Desert Punk [ with the sole exception of his newly acquired and brightly-polished hitate-ate ]. With a lightly-dyed leather headband enter-weaved by three Shikra feathers serving as the only real accessory within Kōin Hizō’s possession, those who had remembered seeing him in the streets of Sunagakure were shocked by his choice to integrate the steel plate of his village into the back of his belted stand-up collar, even though the headband seemed like a more-suited place for such an item [ it would have ruined his look, he later admitted sheepishly ].
Standing a little under five and a half feet tall, and weighing in at barely over one hundred pounds, Hizō can still easily be mistaken for just another street rat, trudging through the back alleys day-in and day-out in such of even a single Ryo. Though from time to time his richly-colored hair will return to that very same state of scruffiness from which he overcame, Hizō tends to try keeping the wilder side restrained by his headband, the more sickled patches of his hair tend to shoot up and over the orange-tanned fabric. Hidden below this mess of hair, Hizō 's eyes complement his hair, with only his pupils managing to gleam an intense variation of hazel [ one of the many traits one would come to expect of a human who had been caught out in the unforgiving sun that hung lazily above the Kaze desert for many a week ]. Completing [ and then completely ruining ] the boy's look is his solemn visage, which has a tendency to form one of those 'stupid little grins,' which serves Hizō with the dual-purposes of showing off his now-frequently and vigorously brushed teeth and aggravating any shinobi that happen to resent him.
Beneath his ‘super-awesome’ uniform, Hizō possesses the wiry body of a bandit, though small signs of his muscles filling out are beginning to show, more-so in his upper body. While he still carries the traits of his previous malnourished frame, Hizō 's more frequent meal outings and some-what peaceful [ his mother and a man he can only imagine to be his long-dead father visit him frequently in his dreams] nights of rest are starting to pay off. Slowly but surely, Hizō 's physical body has already begun the timely process of restoring to the boy a more healthy body, not much can be said about his mental well being.
History:
Scene One: Assassins in the Rain
It was dark in the village of Sunagakure that night. Ominous clouds hovered menacing over the village as the rain began to flood down upon it. Lightning illuminated the skies, and the thunder rattled homes. It was a rarity that a storm would pass by the village, especially one of such magnitude. While most storms were received with gratitude by the villagers this one seemed to carry a grave aura with it. In the Sunagakure Hospital a woman was currently in the process of giving birth to her long awaited child. She, a Sunagakure Chūnin, was the proud wife of a former Iwagakure shinobi, who had turned against his village to pursue his love for her.
During some point in the thirteen hour birth the Iwagakure traitor went out of the hospital to get himself something to eat. This would prove to be one of the greatest mistakes of his life, and the one that would end his life. While rushing through the dark streets, trying to escape the rain, he was confronted by five men. They informed him that they were Iwagakure Oinin, and that they had infiltrated the village in order to kill him. At first, he tried to run from them, he tried to hide, but they cornered him at every turn. He attempted to fight back, but he was easily overwhelmed by their numbers. As he gave his last breaths his child would take his first, and in his dying gasps he made one request to his assassins.
The Oinin, feeling no harm in granting the dying man his wish, attached a scroll that explained everything to a kunai. As the mother held her child for the first time the kunai would break through the hospital window and lodge itself into the wall. Gasps were expressed, the baby started crying, and the sounds of the storm filled the room. A nearby doctor read the scroll aloud, informing everyone of the injustice against Iwagakure that had just been rectified. It told of how he fought gallantly for his life, to see the birth of his child, but in the end... had failed. Lastly, the scroll contained the final wishes of the man. The child's name. He would be called Hizō, to serve as memory of the father the child would never see.
Scene Two: Abuse, Murder, and Genjutsu
Without a husband or a father for the child the woman was forced to retire from the life of a shinobi, not willing to risk losing her life prematurely. Unfortunately, it didn't take long before she realized that she could not work and care for a child by herself. The only family that the woman had left was her loathsome brother, who blamed her for the death of their mother. Her chances of getting her brother’s support were minimal, but she had few options left. To her surprise he agreed to let her stay with him, but she would become his maid as compensation. Hesitantly, she would agree, and he showed her where she would be staying with her child. The room was a small, dark and damp storage room that just barely had enough room for the two of them.
The years would pass, and the living conditions in the house went from poor to unbearable. During the time Hizō 's uncle would have managed to break his mother's spirit, forcing her to become a subservient slave. He would beat her for the simplest infractions, and even molest her to further show his dominance over her -- in his eyes she was receiving the punishment she needed for killing their mother in child birth. His wrath made no exception for the young child, making him into a servant who was subject to the same beatings as his mother.
When the he was eight years old his entire world would come crashing down around him. During one of the beatings his uncle was giving him his mother snapped. She couldn't bear to see her child being hurt any longer, and tried to protect him. A look that could only be described as sadistic crossed his uncle's face as she covered her child. Pushing her away from Hizō he would start to severely beat her, hitting her with chairs or any object he could get his hands on -- all of which took place in front of Hizō. The laughter. The laughter is what would burn itself into his memory forever, as well as the blood that seemed to cover everything. After having beaten her to within an inch of her life his uncle decided to move on to him. His arms having grown tired from beating his sister he would do something far worse. He would place the boy under a Genjustu, one of the strongest he knew, that would make him experience his own death as well as the deaths of those he cherished countless times.
The grotesque sounds of broken bones, the feeling of having a sword pierce through his skull, were just a sample of the things he would see. Tears rolled down his eyes as his body shook violently. With the last bits of her strength his mother would crawl to her son. Placing her hand on his head she would exert the remnants of her chakra into him, disrupting his chakra flow. Her final act of love for her child would prove to be one that would lead him down a path of chaotic destruction in the future. Having died as she released him from the Genjutsu it was dispelled incorrectly and essentially 'ripped' him out of the Genjutsu. A half hour after he was freed from the Genjutsu his uncle would place a strange fuin on his chest, and then injure his self. He would then take the unconscious boy to the hospital and report that his sister had gone crazy, attacking both of them and putting the child in a terrible Genjutsu.
The doctors believed his claim, tended to his wounds, and placed the boy under special care. It took a week for him to finally wake up, and when he did he could remember nothing of the events that had taken place. From the tests the doctors performed on him they discovered that the immense stress that was placed on his brain from the Genjutsu and being forcibly pulled from it had left his mind damaged beyond repair -- saying that it would eventually deteriorate until he became a vegetable.
When he was released from the hospital he was placed under his uncle's guardianship. While at home he would still act as his servant, but he would allow the child to go to the Ninja Academy. There he would be mocked because he would randomly say things at times, which was a result of his mental deterioration, but he would manage to make two lasting friends while there. Their meeting would appear to be by chance, but as time would prove they were fated to become friends...
Scene Three: Doors of Opportunities
Two years after that event would pass, and the conditions of his life wouldn't improve any. His uncle had grown paranoid as the village was now beginning to suspect him of murdering his sister rather than defending himself against her. Hizō would continue to attend the Ninja Academy, but due to his mental disorder he was receiving poor grades [he had trouble concentrating, but could apply the skills he was learning]. The lower the grades the more his uncle would beat him, and the more he would repress the memories.
One night, while Hizō had gone to sleep after one of his uncle's beatings his uncle would flee from the village -- fearing that the ANBU were connecting too many dots. Awaking to find himself all alone he would find himself feeling free for the first time in his life. This would not last for long. He was now homeless, and had no way of supporting himself. As almost by fate the only friends that he had in this world would also become homeless, so they banded together. They would do just about everything together. Find different spots to sleep, steal food, just about anything that they needed to do to survive.
During the next three years, the boy’s friends would perish in the unforgiving desert climate, but Hizō himself would gain the eye of a mysterious man who would train him. He would go on to teach him many things about the arts of Ninjutsu, stuff the boy couldn't possibly have hoped to have learned in that Ninja Academy. In particular, he taught Hizō one of his own special techniques, though the boy still fails to even attempt pulling off the technique himself. To Hizō, the nameless man was the father that he never had, and the first real hero that he ever knew. This man, Hizō 's idol, left soon after his re-enrollment into the Ninja Academy, leaving behind a nameless legacy.
After three years of training with the Chūnin they would take their graduation exams in the Ninja Academy. Beginning his new life as a full-fledged shinobi, Hizō was proud to have been advanced to even the lowly rank of Genin. Fortunately for him, he was soon to be put on a team, with a more experienced Jōnin as his commander. However, that information has yet to be given to him as he is still awaiting the results of the assignment sheet.
