[Mission start]
As Kuro exited the building, he again read the paper. Intrigued by the idea of “metal shaping” and wondering just how useful his fire jutsu would be there if needed, he turned and began walking down the street.
Upon reaching the gate, Kuro walked up the first man dressed in a construction uniform and made his presence know “Kuro Inpakuto reporting in, I’ve come to help” he said as he help up the letter.
Giving him an odd look, the man grabbed the paper, pulling out a set of glasses which he then put on. “Oh, I see, I received no word that we would be getting help today, but I guess one more worker never hurts… so tell me, what kind of Ninjutsu can you use? We have three areas really, one is the metal shaping area, where we are preparing the gate itself to be replaced. We have the Earth shaping area, where we are digging into the ground to help with the gates placement, and we have the third area, in which the workers are carrying to and from various things to both sides, as well as digging with shovels. If you’re not so great with the Ninjutsu, it never hurts to have strong men helping out in the third area, so you pick.”
Thinking to himself Kuro couldn’t decide if he should tell the man that he could use some fire jutsu or not. Finally deciding against it he spoke up “well the truth is that I more skilled in water than in fire or earth, so I suppose I would be best moving things around. Which areas are where?”
“Well head over to the outside of the gate for now then, look for a man named Yuuoi.” He explained as he pointed past the gate.
Nodding, Kuro walked over and around the outside. As he rounded the corner he saw what the man had described. Men were digging a trench with shovels, as well as pushing around a large boulder, and moving stone blocks with their muscular arms. Walking up to one of the diggers, he asks “Where is Yuuoi?” The man pointed to a short stocky man yelling and pointing back and forth at the blocks and the wall as he spoke to another man. Kuro headed over to the man with a look of determination in his eyes.
“Mr. Yuuoi?” he spoke as he walked up.
“Ah, you must be the Gennin they were sending. Being that you’re here I’m guessing you’re going to fill in as a laborer today… Grab a shovel and start digging for starters, I’ll come get you soon enough.”
Nodding, Kuro picked up a shovel, taking off his cloak and setting it in the nook of the wall. Approaching the hole he jumped in and turned to the closest man. “Where are we digging too?” he asked. The man grunted and pointed forward. Nodding, Kuro began to dig.
For several hours, Kuro dug and dug and dug. His bare sandaled feet were black with mud, and he could feel the sweat dripping from his hair. Finally after digging forward nearly fifteen feet, the men heard a shout from above, “Alright guys, the holes done. Get up here and help with these blocks!” One by one the men climbed up the nearby latter, forcing Kuro to wait his turn. Starting to grow irritated, he simply jumped out of the hole.
As he began to make his way to the blocks he was grabbed by Yuuoi. “Alright Gennin, I have another job for you, I need these wood planks cut down to size. I want them two meters long each, no shorter and no longer. Feel free to use that naginata you’ve got if you wish, otherwise a saw is over between the wall and the hole closer to the gate.”
Nodding, Kuro drew his weapon. There were hundreds of wooden planks; each most likely needing three cuts from Kuros keen judgment, so he went to work. Hours flew by as he worked, slicing and dicing each long plank into three as he went.
Finally he finished the wood planks and looked around for Yuuoi, surprising to him; the sun was already beginning to set, meaning his twelve hour shift must be coming to an end soon. Approaching Yuuoi he announced his presence “I have finished the task, what else do you need?”
Yuuoi turning to him said “I know you’re almost done here, but would you mind helping the metal workers before you go? They are almost done with a section, so I’d like to get that done before night falls. Just walk inside the gate and look for men working on a metal slab near the furnace.”
Walking inside again, Kuro quickly located the men who were banging away at metal near some makeshift furnaces. Walking up he asked “What do you need help with?” to one of the men banging away.
If you’ve got any fire power, I’d say you can start by helped the two end furnaces. They have gone out, and we need some torches to get them started… unless you can do that for us.”
Walking down to the end, Kuro found several men standing around. He turned to one and asked “Where do I need to put the fire for this thing to get started again?”
Pointing to the front of the furnace, a small opening could be seen. Nodding, he told the men to step back. Focusing his chakra before he began, he decided on which technique would be best. Forming the symbol he began. “Ox” he formed, “Monkey” he thought as he brought his hands together, “Rabbit” he formed as he could feel the chakra forming in side of himself. “Tiger” he shaped with his hands. Taking in a deep breath as he cupped his hands to his mouth, a thick gout of flame flew from his mouth has he exhaled, flying directly into the hole. Not sure of just how hot it needed to get, he continued to exhale until he ran out of breath, taking his hand away as he breathed in again. “is that good” he asked. Nodding, the man pointed to the second furnace.
“Just need that one started…” he spoke as Kuro walked over. Forming the same seals again, Kuro started the technique. “Ox” “monkey” “rabbit” “tiger” Breathing in he repeated the process. Again, fire flew from his mouth for several seconds before he ran out of breath. Smiling the man nodded “I wish we had the likes of you around here more often, these damn things burn out all the time!”
Turning around as he caught his breath, Yuuoi approached him. “Well done” he said, “You can report back in now, we can finish this up.”
