It had been two weeks since Mai had said a word, she hadn't even connected hers and Bhaals minds together to speak to him. It seemed that she was always deep in thought and focused on something else. She trained with Bhaal as usual focusing on it when it would come up and then when it was time for a break or something that didn't deal with training she would be back off into her own thoughts.
Shadow pounced up behind her and Bhaal as they walked along the river of their home village. It had been months since they had returned from the land of fire and Mai's leg had healed rather well. The little silver fox ran circles around Bhaals feet keeping a good distance so that he wouldn't get steped on. Mai looked over twards Shadow and then up at Bhaal, her soft purple eyes smiled at him but not her lips.
"we should see about doing another mission'' she said softly the most she had said in days. She then looked away from him ''home makes me sick to my stomach'' she said in an even softer yet enraged tone. It was obvious that Mai wasn't happy in the least bit and still craved revenge. She had begun acting as if she were a caged bird who had lost the want to sing. Her feet began to slow into a stop as she turned to fully face the water. She dropped down into a squat hugging her knees to her chest with one arm placing her hand into the current to let the water flow gently across her soft skin.
Mai wanted desperately to connect her and Bhaals mind but she didn't want him to know what she was truly feeling yet at the same time she did. Her mind was in total confusion and she felt like she was someone else in the wrong bod. But her feelings were the same, that was the one thing that she knew was for sure. Her heart still raced each time she looked at Bhaal, and her heart still longed for things to be the way they used to be back when they were kids. How she wanted to simply scream at the top of her lungs, but instead she simply remained within herself staying quiet and calm.
Shadow began trying to grab Bhaals pant leg to tug on it wanting a treat weather it was a stroke or a piece of dried meat. His little ears perked and his bushy tail swayed back and forth pouncing into the air a couple times begging for Bhaal to give him what he wanted.
Mai stood back up and went back to Bhaal's side letting her fingers run across his arm as she casually passed him by about a foot not wanting to be to far from him. She needed to feel him to reassure her that he was still there, seeing wasn't enough for her anymore and she often did this as of late. It would usually be after one of her moments where she would crouch down to look at her reflection in whatever bit of water was around her.
It was never certain when she would have one of her moments, but what was certain was that she would always touch Bhaal afterward to make sure that he was still there. There had been a couple times were she had not reached out for him because fear told her that if she did she would find that he wasn't really there. She had then walked around as if lost in a daydream, unable to figure out if what was around her was real or an illusion. She would reach out to things that wern't really there and then when she would reach for those that were she would bring her hand away from it before her fingers could touch its surface.
It was Obvious that Mai had become extremely dependent on Bhaal in the past months to keep herself somewhat sane. It was Bhaal that kept her from going mad and doing things that she would eternally regret. Bhaal was her rock and deep down she knew that he had to know, but that was how it had always been. From the day they met Bhaal was always the one there to keep her together, it had simply become a bit more serious. Mai had started to slowly loose her mind.
