|| Physical ||
Ryumi is petite, only three inches above five feet, and small in her weight. The pounds she has obtained are mostly muscle and bone; very little babyfat remains, leaving her features sharp. High cheekbones are set upon a porcelain pale face, immune to the desert sun's tanning rays. Her nose is slight and rounded, almost a little too small in proportion to her face. Her eyes are brilliant blue, deep and clear as an ocean. When her bloodlimit is activated, however, they turn to emerald green. These new eyes appear slightly anomolous due to a tiny band of crystal-blue ringing her pupil, reminiscent of the original oculi. Framing her face are locks of bubblegum pink hair, pinned out of her eyes by bands usually the color of gold. It is naturally pin-straight, and pours down to her lower back in sections. Her eyebrows are the same color, and are constantly kept in thin arcs upon her brow. As a child, her body has developed at a rather average speed. Her chest is small but noticeable, thanks to the thin structure of her stomach. Her waist is wide enough for her frame, though her hipbones constantly stick out from the flesh; bottom is, in respect, a little larger. She considers it one of her worst features, and generally goes through lengths to hide it with her outfits. As well, her fingers are slender and bony, and feet are narrow-- a trait shared by others of her clan. Otherwise, the only marrs upon her body so far are beauty marks: one to left of her bellybutton, one on the wrist of her right arm, and one on the right side of her neck.
|| Clothing ||
Like her name suggests, this Kazeraikou is not your average when it comes to looks. Most of her kin are not high-maintence, and enjoy wearing practical clothing-- she, on the other hand, prefers the more intricate apparel. Her favorite choice of outfits is a white bell-bottom dress, made out of a synthetic material. It feels soft to the touch, but to the eye it appears smooth and almost shiny. She adorns a jewelry-esq collar, which is made of the same gold plait as the clips in her hair. The dress itself is sleeveless, showing off her slender arms, and actually has straps that button it at her chest to hold her up. The straps and buttons are a muted red, and they attach along a stripe of the same color that serves as the hem of the dress against her bust. On her left side a strip runs down her front and back, starting at one hem and ending at the other. The bottom of her dress is, as previously mentioned, bellshaped-- it poofs out from her body and molds around in a circle. Like the top hem, it has a stripe of red which is also visible on the inside, as that is the solid color there. Above this another stripe runs around her body in a loop, and above that runs a thinner one in violet. Her legs are completely bare, much like her arms, and the outfit is completed by a pair of Mary Janes. They are made of a synthetic material as well, like plastic but harder and sleeker; their color is a matching hue of red. They add about an inch to her height because of their build, but aren't technically high-heeled, but are actually flat-bottomed. A band holds them in place around her ankles, fastened by a gold clip. Recently, a pair of gloves called cestus were bought and added to her outfit. They were made to match, and she's grown rather fond of them.
|| Agreeable ||
Unlike most shinobi, Ryumi has a tendency to show compassion toward others. If they are in need of her help she will do her best to soothe them, whether that means a comforting word or getting them to a medic. She does well in teams because of this, remaining loyal to her comrades even when they don't have good opinions of her. She is not in any way naive, for this loyalty is more of on an occupational basis. Instead, her trust is much harder to gain-- one has to prove to her that they are good at heart, even if they don't always show it. Fortunately for all, Ryumi tends to see the best of people the moment she meets them, giving them a fair chance. She is not easily suspicous, except around an enemy, and is not antagonistic. Fighting in a verbal sense is not her forte, so she chooses to avoid it.
|| Conscientious ||
Perhaps its a trait given down by blood, but Ryumi tends to be serious most of the time. She is not against laughing at a good joke or smiling, for she does these things often around the right people. No, instead, she tends to become highly focused, showing her extreme self-discipline. There is no part of her that is spontaneous, and even the most random-appearing acts are always planned before hand. She acts with a sense of duty, fulfilling any mission or commission placed before her. These, of course, are not completed sloppily; her motto is: if you're going to do it, do it to the best of your ability! She aims for achievement, sometimes forcing herself to aim too high, so that when things are said and done they always turn out to be at least a quality enough to please. These things make her a good shinobi, but despite that, she doesn't enjoy being flattered about her abilties. She is, in a sense, modest about that much.
|| Introvert and Extrovert ||
When it comes to outward actions, Ryumi is a little bit of both-- inside of herself and forward. Around strangers she tends to appear shy and quiet, even a little uncomfortable. This changes once she's known someone for a while, or if they are assigned to do a mission or otherwise together. Once one of these requirements have been met, she becomes talkative, starting conversations in an attempt to get to know them better. Despite this, and the odd way she dresses, the Kazeraikou girl does not enjoy being the center of attention. It brings out the worst in her, making her act differently to try and make everyone around her like her. If placed into a position where she thinks someone is watching her, she might talk louder so they can hear, and will probably say things she thinks they want to hear. Sometimes this backfires and makes her look stupid, though she feels like it anyway. Other times this might gain her a new friend, and even if the pretenses were a falsified, she loves them all the same.
|| Neurotic ||
Like most others, she does have flaws in her personality, for no one is perfect. Ryumi has a high tendency to experience unpleasant emotions easily, namely anger, anxiety, and depression. A few harsh words could go either way, she could become insanely sad or pissed off beyond belief. If angered, the girl does not usually take it out on the person or others, but it can happen. She's not a god, afterall. Sadness and depression run at a much deeper vein, and when she is not happy she tends to curl up in bed at night and pour out those emotions to herself, or to her diary. Sometimes she may let a friend in on what she's feeling, especially if they figure it out before she tells them. Her anxiety stems from craftsmenship and from her overachievement. No matter how well she really does, she always thinks it's horrible until someone says otherwise honestly. Until someone does, she twiddles her thumbs and grumbles to herself about how she could have done better, trying to supress the emotions of fear from rejection and disapproval.
|| Artistic and Open ||
Ryumi, like many others of her clan, has a natural affinity for the arts. Whether it be painting, flower arranging, singing, or more, she enjoys watching and partaking in the events. She enjoys making friends with others who are similarly artistic, although she is rather mediocre when it comes to the above. No, the Kazeraikou girl has found herself skilled in only one subject-- crafting. During her time crafting any sort of item she becomes calm and less stressed, almost childish in her excitement to see her newest project completed. The act soaks away all negative energy in her body, and even if she was completely pissed off before starting, upon completion she will be back to a state of emotional purity. Despite this, she is also open to trying new, even insane-sounding ideas at least once. Adventuring is one of her habits, whether it be through the desert, the snow, or what-have-you. This stems from her natural curiosity, and her lust for a variety of experiences in life.
|| Birth: An Introduction ||
It was autumn, but it certainly did not feel like it-- the air was as hot as ever, not even a hint of humidity to take the sting out of the sun's burn. The wind had been increasing as of late, whipping sand through the air overtop of the buildings and causing quite a racket. They all were used to it of course, it was a normal part of their lives in Sunagakure, the village hidden in the sand. A tall, bulky shinobi stalked into the open door of one of the outlying houses, pulling down his hood to expose bronzed skin and crystal blue eyes. He had been scowling, but his expression turned to surprise when he noticed several others there, medical shinobi as it were, setting up equipment and talking loudly. The man was a jounin for the sand, a strong man with many friends and he was also a Kazeraikou, one with dragon eyes. To be exact, he was Kazeraikou Saburou, the third and youngest son of Kazeraikou Taiki and Masami. Coincidentally, the two elders were standing off to one side, holding hands and watching the goings-on. Was it that time already? Almost one year ago he had been married to a beautiful young kunoichi, a girl several years his junior, by the name of Onohara Rei. Two months after their consumation Rei had become preganant, and he had known she was due soon. Despite his reluctance Rei had insisted that he go on a mission to scout near Suna for intruders. Now he was coming home, and it appeared he was just on time. Hurrying over to the midst of the people he saw his wife on a bed, propped up by pillows and staring at him. They smiled at one another, and she lifted up a bundle in her arms. One of the medics leaned over and pulled back a a flap of the blanket, revealing the baby's face. "It's a girl," his wife murmured through happy tears, and he leaned down to inspect the baby. She had hair as pink as her mother's, and her eyes-- starting right at him-- were as blue as the sky. "What do you want to name her?" She asked him, and he thought for a moment. "Ryumi. Our.. beautiful dragon."
|| Age 1 - 3: Toddler Days ||
Ryumi was a very happy little girl. From the day she was born and beyond her parents doted on her, treating her like a princess but never spoiling her. Her whole first year of life was spent visiting family members, both those of Saburou's clan and those in Rei's immediate family. The Kazeraikou were ecstatic to see another baby with the potential of gaining their kekkei genkai, and commented often about the parody of her name. The only abnormal trait she had was her hair color, shown by the small tuft of pink atop her head. Aside from visiting relatives, with every bit of ryo her father could spare he bought her new toys. Rattles, blocks, and of course all of the baby bare essentials that would help them see what kind of art she liked. Crayons and paper; little wooden flutes and triangles; tapes with music and fun sing-along tracks. She played with all of these toys equally, loving them all, but never showing a particular preference. There was, however, one toy she enjoyed more than the rest-- her blocks. They realized this, but neither knew what to make of it, and simply let the topic rest until she was older.
And older she did get! Her childhood was simple this way, her mother giving up her shinobi ways to nurture the little girl as she grew. Saburou remained a jounin, constantly doing missions to support them on what ryo he could make. Living in Sunagakure was only hard for its heat, and so he was never gone for very long, as they had plenty currency to live on. Ryumi learned to walk at age two, a little later than most but well all the same. She stumbled often, and ended up slipping and bumping her head more than once. Her mother was there to pick her up every time, kissing away her pain and tears, and restoring her to happiness again. It didn't take much, for she was a happy child! During the times Saburou was home, he liked to sit down with Ryumi on his lap, showing her how to paint and often letting her slap her hands against the canvas. As a result, their bedroom walls were covered in paintings with little handprints, all different colors-- they thought it beautiful. But, as a Kageraikou, her father did not want to give up on finding out her talent. Even at the age of three she showed no particular preference, and it frustrated him. Was she not of his bloodline? Did she not inherit their natural talent for the arts? There was only one way to find out: to help her activate her Ryuugan. Without further ado he began to teach her how to read.
|| Age 4 - 6: The Ryuugan ||
Reading was not a talent that Ryumi took to easily. One day Saburou brought home a box full of books, ranging from ones with just a few pages and fewer words, to full-length children's books. The couple, now married for nearly four years, sat down with their child as much as possible and read to her. She seemed to enjoy the snuggling it entailed and listened aptly, with intelligent eyes, as they read her pages from each book. Though she should have been talking by then, the most they had gotten out of her to date was a few words at best. She was three, and the other children a year or so younger than her were babbling away a storm. It worried her parents, but they remained supportive of the girl. They found a book within the box that was simple and cute, a rhyme about body parts on the body-- mouth, nose, eyes, feet, hands. After a few times reading it to her, Ryumi began to react, blinking her eyes when they read about them and waving byebye when that line was mentioned in the book. It charmed her parents, and it now became her favorite book. Still, they tried to diversify, and still, she refused to speak. It took a full year of this same routine, but two months into her fourth year the young Kazeraikou finally spoke: "Blocks!" She cried one day, while making a tower. "Blocks, blocks! Building blocks!" It was a start, but from then on, she was more enthusiastic about using her little vocal cords. They gave her her favorite book, and the first run through she repeated a few words. "I have a tiny mouth, and a tiny nose~" She cooed, pointing to her nose. The parents smiled to one another and held up the book, and Rei said, "Baby, can you read this to us?" Ryumi looked up to them and blinked, snatching the book from their hands. She squinted at it a few times, turned it around and flipped it upside down. After making sure that it was completely safe, she righted it up and began stuttering along the first lines. Unlike most children her age, she didn't need much help with the words-- over the past year she had been watching, listening, and mostly of all.. learning. By the middle of the book her crystal eyes flashed, turning a bright green that signified the activation of the Ryuugan. She barely even noticed, finishing the book off quickly, acting out each part. At its conclusion she looked up to her father, curious, and said, "Eyes feel funny." He smiled. After her first activation reading became much easier for her, although the girl continued to mention that her eyes felt sore after doing it. She didn't mind the feeling; it made her feel like, by reading, she was doing something truly productive.
The whole of her fifth year was spent in this manner, relinquishing her hold on most of her old toys in favor of reading children's books. The one toy she clung to like death was her blocks, however, and their structures got more intricate. Sometimes she would make a house, or a castle, and other times she patterned out pictures on the floor. The bulk of her time not spent bettering her mind was spent playing, mostly with the son of her parent's friends. He was a few months older than her, and his name was Akiyama Yori. He, unlike her, didn't enjoy the artsy things. He was more into the taijutsu that his father practiced, and often spent his time wailing on Ryumi. They wrestled, he always won.. and it was the beginning of a lovely friendship. They spent most of the year together, rough-housing and driving their parents mad, but finally it was time for students to sign up for the Shinobi Academy. Yori was excited, he wanted to become a taijutsu master like his father, and so joined the rankings without much thought. Ryumi, however, was reluctant to do so. Both of her parents tried to coax her, but she decided with a stern pout that she was going to wait another year. Already she spent a lot of time learning, so she didn't see the point. Yuri teased her, but she stood her ground. Her birthday came and went, celebrated with a small party, Yuri and his family the only ones she invited; the rest of the year was a jumbled mess of lonely playing and listening to Yori brag about his first year in the Academy.
|| Age 7 - 13: Shinobi Academy ||
His bragging got too much for her, really-- by the middle of her sixth year, halfway through his first in the Academy, she was already wishing she had gone. Ryumi whined to her parents to let her go, but they just laughed and patted her on the head, telling her it would be soon that she could. The next half a year did not fly by as she wished it would, but she did manage to live, and looking back it did not seem so long as looking forward. The sign ups for the next year of fresh Academy students came around the end of the summer days, when the air was hot and the sun was highest in the sky. Having lived there so long, Ryumi and her family did not have any trouble standing the heat. They donned cloaks to keep the sun from burning them and headed out to the Registrar. The Chuunin who was working sign ups greeted Saburou with respect, and smiled at the little girl holding her mommy's hand. "Would you like to join the Shinobi Academy?!" He asked, enthusiastic enough to make the girl cringe and hug her mother's leg closer. "Yes," she stuttered out; "What's your name?" He inquired. "Kazeraikou Ryumi," the girl said with pride, puffing out her chest and releasing her mother's hand, as if the name gave her the right to beat up a Chuunin. After that was the long process of her parents giving the Chuunin her other information, and she was all signed up to go! She rushed home to tell Yuri, and they laughed and jumped around for hours. Of course, there was no escaping his good-natured teasing: "Ya'knows, I'm still ahead of yous!" He poked at her, and she stuck her tongue out. "We'll see! I'll catch up, don't worry!" That was the start of their rivalry, and they both loved it. Yori was a year ahead of her, and he was doing well at learning the taijutsu he so wanted. Unfortunately, he seemed to have a hard time with the simple ninjutsu they were trying to teach him. For her first year Ryumi was stuck with the basics, but by her second year, she was ahead of Yori in terms of how he had been during. She was good at both the ninjutsu and taijutsu techniques they were showing the class, and excelled at a lot of the written exams. There were others in her class more skilled at one thing or another, and a few that were just as balanced as her. In the long run, she didn't care-- only Yori mattered to her. They would often test out techniques recently learned upon one another, and of course he had the advantage. He knew what she planned to use and could counter, while his moves were completely fresh in her mind. Still, seeing him perform some she had less trouble when, in the next year, her class progressed to that level.
This was a pattern that continued throughout the whole of her time in the Academy, and every year, her birthday remained the same. Yori was invited, and that was it. Sure, she had made several boy and girl friends in her class, but he was spcecial. He was her rock, her best friend, her rival. Ryumi helped him study for his final exams, and threw him a party when he passed them. He was a genin now, and assigned to a team of two others. Despite having to spend time with them, he still remained with her the bulk of his afternoons. They weren't wasted on simple talking and sparring, of course.. no, now that he knew what to expect, Yori helped to train Ryumi for her own final exam. By the time he was done, and it was time to take the tests, she passed with flying colors. Sometimes having a rival could be a good thing; Yori mentioned this to her during the huge party he threw for her, and again when he shoved a slice of cake into her face.
|| Age 14 - 15: Early Genin Years ||
It was nice being a Genin. Her parents had avidly supported her through her years as an Academy student, though their help could never rival that which she got from Yori. They took her, a hand in each of hers, to get her Sunagakure hitai-ate~ The ID process came first, and she posed pretty for the camera when the Chuunin took her picture. Yori showed up a bit late, but arrived just in time for the ceremony, where her old instructor was to hand over the headband. He moved to tie it around her forehead but, feeling untraditional, she asked him to do so around her neck. He did, and turning back to the crowd of parents and friends gathered she bowed, showing off the silver plate with the hourglass upon it. She was officially the same rank as Yori, although he had another headstart. "I told you I'd catch up!" She cried, and tackled him down, ruffling his shaggy black hair. He always kept it so long, almost shoulder length these days, it the stupid boy liked to have it covering his eyes. Unfortunately, Ryumi went to measures to make sure she could see those pretty orbs of emerald, for they reminded her so much of her Ryuugan. She wanted very much to be on his team, but her instructor reminded her that he already had one. Pouting, much like she had done as a child, she stubbornly said that she didn't want a team. Reluctantly they complied to this, realizing that the Genin would probably cave in and ask for teammates eventually. Afterall, missions were significently harder without them. She found this out the hard way on her first mission, messing it up and not getting the ryo that was promised because of it. Frustrated, she took a break from the labor in favor of spending time with her daddy. Over the course of the year he helped her to gain better control of her Ryuugan, and even taught her some of the basic techniques associated with their clan. It wasn't easy for her, for they were tough skills, but she did manage. Still, the amount that he would teach her was not enough to occupy all of her time. Instead of sitting around being useless, Ryumi decided to look into something she did not know: why she didn't have an affinity for artwork. It took a lot of searching and a lot of reading, but she knew it as soon as she saw it: craftsmanship. It sparked a fire in her heart like no other, a desperate urge to create that consumed even her rivalry with Yori.
Just when she was supposed to begin her apprentanceship as a weapons' crafter, disaster struck. Real disaster-- it wasn't petty, like a broken nail or a broken arm. Yori and his teammates decided to join the Chuunin exams held that year, and during his match, his opponent struck a killing blow. It was all-too-common, and all sensei warned about it profusely before allowing a shinobi to fight. Still, hot-headed and magnificently egotistical as he was, Yori had not listened. He was paired up to fight a Genin that had the status for several more years, preparing his jutsu so he could not lose. The man used a katon, fire, justu against Yori.. and he was burned so badly even the medics could not help him. He died later that night in the hospial after a struggle with the burns, Ryumi by his side but not able to hold his hands. A few hours before he died, he whispered out his final wish to her-- "I want you to have Nanashi." She was dragged out from the hospital in frantic tears, and locked herself in her room, refusing to even go to his funeral. For several months she remained this way, eating and drinking only enough to keep herself alive. During the time in her room, lights off, she did.. a lot of thinking. Yori would have been disappointed with her to be so weak, and Ryumi knew he would have wanted her to continue on. He would have wanted her to do her best, to achieve and to reach for the stars. Feeling stronger, the next day she visited his parents for the first time, and told them that she wanted to keep Yori's sword, Nanashi. His parents were in their own state of mourning, but they recognized Ryumi's intense grief, and granted her that wish. Equipped with a sword too big for her to use, and a will strong enough to carry on, the pink-haired Kazeraikou set out on her journey to become a real shinobi.
|| Age 15: Current Years ||
After a lot of thought Ryumi decided that, if she was ever going to get ahead in the shinobi world, she was going to need some funds and material. She did not have enough money for even the most simple crafter's tool, and yet she had a giant sword that she could never use. Though it broke her heart to do so, she traveled to the nearest weaponry store and sold Nanashi and some items given to her by her father. They were hers, but he had handed them over for the specific purpose of getting her Ryo-- they were, in essense, her savings. Together her items netted her quite a bit of Ryo, and already it burned a hole into her pocket. With a sigh of resignation she bought a giant fan, and to prove her love for Yori, named it Nanashi. Some crafter's tools were picked up as well, and perfectly set to begin on her career, she left with a smile.
