Mashimizu City.
As with all large cities, which one would assume the Capital falls into the category of, it naturally must have an Inn. And what do Inns have? Traveler information. What is included in traveler information? Road maps.
Roads were really nothing more than glorified footpaths, but even that was better than wandering aimlessly through the woods until he starved to death. Unless of course civilians enjoyed being lost in potentially hostile territory. . . In which case he could pretty much abandon all hope of finding a road leading to where he was headed.
However, since such was not the case, he wouldn't have a problem. And, as expected, the first thing he saw upon entry of the inn was a small, framed world map right on the reception desk. Thankfully there was also a detailed description of the roads, which were mercifully few and far between.
No other hidden villages were listed on the map
(obviously)
because that would make the whole "hidden" thing a bit defunct. Not even Mist village was listed, so he could expect that the inns of the other countries would be in a similar state of disinformation.
From what he could tell by the map, he would have to traverse northwest until he reached the coast, then skip around the small islet right off the northwestern coast and keep going in a relatively straight line until he made landfall. All the while he would be praying to whomever would be listening that he didn't accidentally wind up somewhere in Lightning Country.
Then, once successfully in Claw he would follow the roads to the Capital and plan the next leg of his journey from there. He saw with dismay how many potentially hostile countries he would have to get through to get from Claw to Bird. Four, maybe even five if he wasn't careful, all of which could very well have patrols that would be unhappy about a foreign ninja carting documents through their country. . .
It was best to just continue on and hope for the best. He memorized the route he planned to take, taking mental snapshots of the layout of the land, and left the inn.
