Baika stood in a small clearing surrounded by large trees, granted they were whithering away from the perpetual mist of th evillage and lack of sunlight, but they were still quite large.

He had read somewhere about a sword style that could cut through skin, flesh and bone, but he needed to know the earth release to practice it. So that's what he was going to do.

He sat down in a standard meditation position, letting his chakra flow freely through his body. He could almost feel it surging through his veins. The kid knew he'd be able to do this, he was determined. The Kirigakure shinobi opens his eyes from his meditation and places his hands flat on the ground.

He forces his chakra to his hand, trying to use the sheer force of his chakra to split the earth. He pictured the tectonic plates shifting beneath his hands as he surged his chakra into it.

Nothing.

This was going to take a lot longer than he thought. He tried formulated and imagine in his head, the ground splitting into pieces beneath his palms. The affinity of earth was powerful, strong enough to shatter rock and destroy a whole city. The thought intrigued him greatly, he wouldn't give up on this.

Baika thought about his previous iaijutsu training, compared to that this was nothing. His body was still recovering from the wooden beating. He took in a deep breath and slammed the palms of his hand against the ground while surging chakra through them.

A sickening crunch echoed through the clearing as Baika clenched his teeth together tightly, clutching his hands together. That wasn't the best approach. He laid down on his back staring up at the clouded sky. He had only twisted his wrists nothing was broken, maybe just a few bruises.

Regardless of the pain he had to shove on, sitting back up he surged chakra through his forearms and hands. He slowly inched his hands closer to the ground, trying to judge how far apart he was. Slower this time he forced his hands down into the ground.

Krrrch

In awe Baika looked down at the ground, he didn't feel any new pains in his hands, that could only mean one thing. He moved his hands away eagerly, but there were no cracks in the ground. He stares at the earth quizzically, out of the corner of his eye his sees a dark shape on his hand. Upon further inspection, he had merely crushed a bug. Neigh, not crushed it but full out obliterated it. There was no inkling of it having a shell or anything, just gooey black juice on the mist genin's hand.

Oh man. You just had to go and kill the bug.

After cleaning his hand of the remnants of a bug Baika stands up clenching his fists at his sides as he starts to pace. His temper was rising and he could feel, forcing his chakra to his fists he starts to relentlessly punch a tree trying to just break it clean in half.

After about fifteen minutes of punching the tree he stopped, Baika had managed to break away most of the bark from that section, but with the result of bloody knuckles. Blood drips down his fingers slowly, but the was beside the fact he had to train.

So he sat back down on the ground and prepared to repeat the process he had ben doing until he got it right. This was mediocre training, he needed to be more intense. Shaking his head violently he repeatedly punched the ground, no chakra re-enforcing the punches just plain brute force.

No. No. No. No. He wouldn't let his temper get the best of him. He rested for a few moments, the cool mist relaxing his body. Baika directs his chakra specifically to the areas that would have the most impact on the ground beneat him.

Concentrate.

The single word that beat through his head. As his palms came raining down upon the earth, hoping for a rock shattering impact he was disappointed when removed his hands only to find one crack in the ground beneath his right. It was barely a centimetre long and he would be lucky if it was anymore than a centimetre deep.

Dammit, that was hardly good enough. He wasn't going to get anywhere with this shoddy training, hell the ground was damp he should be doing double the amount of damage he was. Baika sat upon the ground continually slamming his hands down on the damp earth.

He was making progress, just very slowly. Several large cracks were beginning to run through the earth, but it was becoming difficult to tell if it was from just one hit or the complete collateral damage of this training. The young shinobi of the mist had done some pretty bad damage to his hands, his palms were beat red and covered in miscellaneous scratches from the ground.

Since he could no longer tell what kind of damage he was doing to the ground he moved to a different part of the clearing, a good distance away from where he had been previously sitting. Streaming his chakra into strictly the palms of his hands he slams them against the ground, wincing in pain as the cuts and bruises on his hand rub against the small crack in the ground. Baika had managed to create a bigger crack than he had been doing, but still not large enough to say he knew how to control this release.
