I was so close I could feel it. My bones hummed with the sense of closeness. I just had to finish it off, to sense more than I had before and I would begin with the two girls who had been so wonderful helping me in this process. The eldest girl was strong enough to pose a challenge for me to sense and her sister was an able body to allow me to sense two stronger people. Perhaps if I worked fast enough I could progress to sensing all three of them. Time would tell but I was ready to get started, no more waiting.

They hid themselves as I positioned myself to sense them. Before I had gotten comfortable before I attempted to sense but I did not this time, I needed to be able to work this technique from any position. My eyes closed as my mind’s eye opened and showed the world in a new perspective. The latent traces of chakra blazed in my vision. My sight was getting stronger for certain. Now I just had to find the two flighty females. I would begin pressing out in a dome like pattern so nothing could escape my vision. In reality it wasn’t so much my chakra that activated this or searched, it acted as a medium.

As I reached outwards I would carefully search for chakra signatures, ignoring their strength or weakness, just trying to find them in general. Near the edge of my range to the north I spotted a slight disturbance. I zeroed in on the area, looking more closely. The girl was the younger one, ducked behind a tree and covered with foliage it seemed. It was a nice idea but physical boundaries cannot block the pure and bright aura of chakra that is so apparent to someone with sensory capabilities. I made a careful note of her exact location before pressing on.

I had one down I just needed to find the stronger girl. It served to figure that she would be more difficult purely by her rank. I would not be offset by the challenge however, I welcomed it. My discerning eyes began to search, looking for that trace chakra to lead me to the woman. On the opposite side of the woods we were in I noticed something that I was fairly sure was her. I closed in on the being, using my knowledge to tell me if this was the female I sought. Yes I was quite sure of it, it was too strong to be anyone but her.

With my eyes still closed I called out the locations, as per usual. My thoughts were confirmed and I opened my eyes once more. The lights and colors over took me as I fell out of my chakra oriented sight. I blinked rapidly as the children came running and laughing, their sister keeping a more docile and reserved pace. I thanked them profusely. They had been a fantastic help through this and we weren’t done yet. I still had much further to progress into these techniques after all. At the moment I needed to severely increase my range. Ten meters was just not enough for me.[/font][/blockquote]

I was far from done when it came learning to sense itself but my range was pitiful really. With a range of ten meters I may as well use my eyes instead. Even the lowest training of this technique would prove helpful to me, improving my sight range to a maximum of twenty five meters, and that is exactly what I intended to do. The kids were only two happy to help and agreed to hide themselves towards the edge of my range so I could work on sensing them from the new distances. With that settled it was time to begin.

I closed my eyes and settled in, reaching out with my mind’s eye so I could see that which was normally hidden. I reached out to my normal ten meter range and hesitated as if a mental block was in place to prevent me from moving forwards. I exhaled deeply and focused on my goal. I knew I could break past this I just had to try. I watched carefully for chakra signatures. As I broke past that ten meter mark, just barely but I broke past it. That itself was a large accomplishment for this technique. Now to reach the next ten meters.

I continued to reach outwards with my chakra attempting to hit that seemingly endless range that I could not have imagined before. It was like struggling through quick sand. The air around me seemed thick and unforgiving and it was an uphill battle the entire way. I could not give up however. I wanted that range. I fought to see anything that could be noticed by my discerning eyes as I fought to see a range far beyond. I was inching closer to my destination I was sure of that but I lacked I real way to measure which left shady guess work.

I could not see the children yet which meant I was not far enough. I continued to try and see past my range or my slightly extended range to be more accurate. I could see a faint glimmer of chakra in the distance. The possibility of success spurred me to continue trying. The shine of hope drew me closer. Something was distorted about the distant chakra shape. It was too large to be who I was looking for… but then who was it? Something about the shaping was throwing me off as well. With a final burst of effort it would all come into plain view.

What I had thought was an abnormal shape was really the three children standing together. From the distance their chakra signatures had overlapped giving me a distorted view of what was really there. I smiled and laughed and called them back over towards me. I had a choice now. I could double my range yet again or change to yet another aspect of the sensory training. When it came to training it was always about decisions and no matter what choice I made I would have to deal with whatever repercussions were caused because of it. Thus was the circle of life.[/font][/blockquote]

It was another strange night. She was trying to sleep but felt restless. After what felt like an eternity she would drift off to sleep, still twisting and turning fitfully. Why couldn’t she get a good night of sleep? It seemed like every time she drifted off into the dream world something would prevent her from getting the mental rest she really needed. It was nice in a way to do quite a bit of training without the physical work but it was strange and unusual and prevented her from getting some well deserved rest. She shifted again in her sleep; it wasn’t as if she could do anything after all.

She was in a field, not far away was a rabbit nibbling upon a carrot. I blinked rapidly. It was unlikely that a rabbit would stay in one place for so long. As it caught sight of me it froze and then relaxed. “Wondered when it would be my turn. You have quite a few of my traits you know.” The rabbit informed her softly. Kana rolled her eyes with an exquisite show of drama. “Congratulations, I’ve never heard that one before.” She replied coldly, rather tired of this entire charade. “Fine you boring little girl, straight onto the testing for you!”

An easel stood in front of her as well as painting supplies. From her studies she knew rabbits were artistic creatures but when it came down to it she was not. Hesitantly she picked up the brush and dipped it in paint, her eyes set in concentration as she made her first gentle stroke across the easel. She planned on making an abstract view on a rabbit. Key shapes came to life. A vague rendition of ears, a nose, a small little puff of a tail but with nothing to connect them. She would turn the rest into something she knew well.

Thin black lines worked through in an outline, something most artists avoided but Kana was no artist. She preferred abstract that left her room for mistake. Besides the few key shapes she had made what appeared to be a field of flowers, covering everything on the easel. It was the shading of color that would gave way to her true design. Whilst the majority of the flowers were a shade of violet they tapered off into a fawn color where the defined parts of the rabbit were, creating a trick of the eyes in a way. Perhaps not the most artistic rendition but it was hers.

She sighed and stepped back from the easel, looking over her work as she rinsed her brush thoroughly. It was force of habit to be a tidy individual. She sank into a seat on the floor and nodded. Another test would come she was certain but until then she could do nothing but wait for the little zodiac animals who sought to make her life difficult. She reflected on what she knew of rabbits as she attempted to predict what the next test would be. Rabbits could be rather unpredictable however therefore she knew whatever she thought would probably be wrong.[/font][/blockquote]

“Is that supposed to be me?” The rabbit had made his appearance once more and was eyeing her painting suspiciously. “It’s an abstract.” Kana replied defensively. She knew her art was no fantastic but it was interesting if nothing else. “Oh very well, on to the second test I suppose. Do better on that one please.” The rabbit replied earnestly. Kana blinked, this was probably the nicest zodiac animal she had encountered thus far. It seemed as if he actually wanted her to succeed as opposed to the others who just tested because they were basically required to.

She found herself in a room with one other person, an obnoxious looking drunk. Kana sighed and took a deep breath. She had dealt with this sort before. Again from her books she knew a rabbit was supposed to be calm and difficult to provoke. She assumed that was what the rabbit wanted her to do though, stay calm. The man stumbled over and giggled. “Hey there good looking!” He slurred happily as he approached. Kana bit down upon her lip before smiling ever so slightly, hoping not to give him the wrong impression. This would be a difficult chore.

He placed his hand on my shoulder and I shrugged it away softly, attempting to stay calm and not be rude. He asked if he could buy me a drink in his wonderfully slurred speech. I shook my head slightly and explained that I don’t drink. This wasn’t too bad so far. Finally he jumped up and grabbed my hand demanding I go look at something with him. Reluctantly I allowed myself to be drug along by his ham handed grip. I suppose when it came down to it a real rabbit would enjoy such things but I was no real rabbit.

We kept walking in circles; he didn’t seem to know where he was going. My legs began to get sore with the constant repetition of circles and attempting to keep pace with his drunk shambling. “Where are we going?” I asked, trying to stay cool and not whine or complain. Instead my question was filled with genuine curiosity. Perhaps if he knew where he wanted to go I could help him find that place. He wasn’t sure though, he mentioned something about water. Perhaps there was a river or something nearby. I coaxed him, leading him along a normal path instead of the silly circles he was going in.

Finally after ages of walking we reached the water. The male grinned happily and sank into a seat near the riverbed. I sighed and shook my head lightly. My tolerance of people was improving; it had been since I became Kage. Now it was just time to see if my success was enough by the rabbit’s standards. I overlooked the crystalline water and smiled. It was such an interesting day; my hand seal training always was when it came down to it. I normally hate training but these techniques really weren’t all that bad, I had definitely trained much, much worse.[/font][/blockquote]

The world twisted and swayed, throwing me into another test no doubt. It was really rather lucky that I did not suffer from motion sickness because doubtless this would set it off. What would my next test be, I wondered. Rabbits were always strange creatures and as much as this one insisted we had things in common I had my doubts. In fact rabbit was probably on of the signs I was least like. I was dropped into a white room, a completely plain and empty white room. How boring. Rabbits were supposed to be artistic, this one could do with some decorating lessons it seemed.

“Its time to test your compassion.” Kana snorted as the words filled the room. “Sorry I’m not really a compassionate person.” She replied calmly, believing the words to be true with all her heart. “Not compassionate? Do you really believe that? Well let’s take a look!” The room dimmed like they did in the theaters and images began to project onto the wall in front of her. She was taking a trip down memory lane it seemed as pieces of her life flashed before her very eyes. She blinked rapidly to adjust her eyes before focusing on the images being projected upon the screen.

She watched as the male she knew as Adero swept her into a hug as he let his emotions flow freely to her, a relative stranger. It had been so long since then, three… almost four years was it? She tried to write it off, that wasn’t compassion. Next she viewed a room inside a hospital. She shivered coldly, remembering this situation all too well. It was the death of her only friend, Banraku Himiko. Kana watched herself remove the flower from her hair and place it in Himiko’s hands, her eyes leaking with unshed tears… she didn’t like this memory.

Next came the death of her father. It was a death of natural causes that had led her to secluding herself in her home for nearly a month before her Uncle came to put an end to that. She had sobbed for hours in his arms. Next came the death of her Raikage, Raikou. It was an emotional time for all of them. Raikou had been of failing health for some time but she knew him, she liked him, she respected him. The movie continued after the funeral, Kana admitting the day was also her birthday and then Mukuro had pressed his lips against hers in a kiss.

More recently her compassion had led her to damning the village elders as they had attempted to assassinate Kotomi at her own coronation. Were these things really compassion? For the most part Kana had thought of them as loyalty or friendship but they were compassionate acts in a way. Her emotions had encompassed her and led her to act kindly to even strangers or to protect those she loved. Kana sighed softly as the movie ended. The rabbit had proved his point but he had also dredged up some horrible memories that she had only wanted to forget.[/font][/blockquote]

“Very well you pass. Start working on forming the seal!” The rabbit suggested eagerly. It seemed that he meant to stay and watch thus I had no choice but to comply. He really was a friendly sort I had to admit that much at least. I contemplated getting a pet rabbit before I set to work performing the hand symbol. This was doubtless the most boring part of the work in training these seals but it was also, unfortunately, unavoidable. I settled onto the grass in the field we had moved to through the rabbits random powers and thus I would proceed into the ever so fun task of training.

When it came down to it the one handed rabbit was perhaps one of the easier one handed seals. I curled my middle, ring, and little fingers down towards my palm while the index finger and thumb stayed extended. It wasn’t all too difficult but it seemed my hand was unused to this shape without the other hand to act as a support. Small cramps irritated the area between my thumb and index finger thus I released the seal for a moment. I stretched my hand vigorously before even attempting to form the seal a second time. The rabbit watched, clearly fascinated by the process.

I tried again, still using my dominant hand as I slowly eased my protesting muscles into the zodiac symbol. I held my hand steady and closed my eyes, focusing on the chakra inside me. If it worked properly, if I had formed the seal properly I should be able to call upon my chakra after all, other wise there would be no point to this ridiculous training. The chakra rose to my call and gathered before I let it drift away. I glanced over to the rabbit as if asking for his opinion. He nodded, his little nose quivering in barely concealed excitement.

Kana nodded to the rabbit and let her right hand fall, now transitioning to her left hand. It was force of habit for her to make sure she was equally as good on both sides thus she would practice that one as well. Her left hand curled into the seal easily without falling victim to the cramps as her right hand had. She smiled in pleasure before working on calling her chakra on this side as well. The mystical energy hummed through her body as it made its way to her hand to gather and await use. She let it fall back into her system however.

“Try some techniques now!” The rabbit added happily as she let her hand relax. “Y’know when you finish this you only have one hand seal left to complete. Dragon too, good luck with him!” Realization hit the girl like a brick. She was almost done. She had spent so long going after these seals she had never really realized the end was in sight. She took a breath to keep excitement from showing upon her face. “I need to finish up this seal first!” She replied as she winked at the rabbit. She was almost done though, she could feel it.[/font][/blockquote]

I was a little disappointed that I was almost done with this seal. The rabbit was by far one of my favorite zodiac representatives these days. He was a kind little creature keeping my company while I trained. I let my mind fall as I sought to think of techniques that included his hand sign. I finally settled on a fairly simply water technique that would work. It seemed smarter to start with lower ranked techniques and work my way up. Another trick was that eleven of the hand seals I was using would be one handed and that was pretty awesome.

I began performing the hand seals, trying not to let my speed slip as I performed the rabbit seal. Chakra gathered, perhaps a little more slowly than normal. I would not let that stop me however. With some coaxing the chakra rose and I allowed it to pour out into the river as I performed the water technique with expert precision. I loved successes, even simply ones such as this. Next I would move on to a higher ranked technique of the lightning release. The release was probably one of my favorites so it would hopefully be easier.

More hand signs would be formed as I concentrated on gathering the lightning chakra. I wanted so badly to succeed with this seal; it was another fantastic step for me when it came to getting that much stronger. I couldn’t help but think of the possibilities to disconcert people with these seals. Chakra gathered and released in a clap of lightning that, if anyone had been near by, would have stunned anyone within my range. It was a useful technique, even more useful now that I could do it with one hand. Now it was time to move onto something much more challenging.

It was back to the water release techniques for me, something I had learned ages ago and still sort of hated for the effort it had taken. I began performing the hand seals and calling on my chakra, determined not to let my annoyance with the technique overwhelm me. As the last seal was completed I would allow the chakra to flow to my mouth. Water exploded forth from my mouth in massive amounts. It was a rather disgusting technique now that I thought about it. But alas, it had its uses, everything had its uses really you just had to know how to find them.

“Good job Kana-chan!” The rabbit said as it hopped into the air with excitement. I couldn’t help but smiling and laughing. I loved the excited little rabbit who had made my training more enjoyable. I thanked him and he promised to see me again. I realized as he left why he may have been so friendly. Often when I was little I had saved rabbits who had fallen victim to a cruel slash from birds. I nursed them back to health and released them into the wild. It seemed likely that the rabbit god would know of these things. Then again rabbits were just friendly, that could’ve been it as well.[/font][/blockquote]

This was it, the very last seal she needed to complete the one handed seals, the unattainable goal was now within her sight. She waited her field and suddenly rippled around her. The rabbit squeaked its goodbye and fled. Was this it? Would I meet the apparently foreboding dragon? Shadows and fires exploded in the distance, a huge shadow of a dragon appeared. “Mortal you dare entered my hallowed ground to try and conquer me?!” I resisted the urge to shrink, instead stepping closer. “Yes.” I said simply. “I do.” I wasn’t cocky, I was tired, and I was in no mood for games.

The light faded and out stepped… a lizard. I blinked rapidly. “What the hell are you supposed to be?” I demanded. “I’m a dragon you idiot. I just appear this way so you don’t die of fright!” I snorted. Not likely. The dragon hissed, the tongue flickering like a lizards. “Fine anyways, go pass my tests miss smarty pants!” The dragon exclaimed before I was whisked into the dark shadowy world once more. Dragons were many things, favored zodiac creatures in fact. My test was an interesting one, one of luck. I appeared in what seemed to be a casino with fifty Ryo in my hands. It was time to go.

I looked around the room with a dejected sigh. I would rather play games of strategy like blackjack or poker but no I had to prove I was lucky. I hated being reliant on these things. I sighed and sat at a table for roulette. I hated this stupid game. I placed a ten ryo bet on black twenty-two. I had no particular reason to choose that number but I felt like it all the same. I watched as the ball entered the wheel and spun in circles, the retrograde motion making me slightly sick. The wheel began to slow and spin and I waited not at all caring what actually happened.

The marble finally halted and the announcer called out the code of “Black Twenty-two!” I blinked. Wow, maybe I actually was lucky. I bet that twenty on red eighteen, hoping that increasing my bet size would end this stupid test faster. I sighed and looked away from the table as it spun. I really did not care about this. I was just trying to finish what I started. And again I won. I would bet another twenty, it was all I needed to double my money. Black seventeen seemed like a likely number and thus I went with it. Call it intuition or luck, it is what it is.

I won, of course I did. I sighed and smiled. Hopefully that was the end of that foolishness. Whatever luck a dragon possessed I had some manner of it but unlike dragons it did not impress me, nor did I put it to use. I would much rather save all that luck for a time I needed it most, not in something ridiculous such as gambling. I collected my winnings and waited for the lizard… I mean dragon to make himself known. Casinos annoyed me; they were almost as bad as bars. I let the scene play before my eyes and simply relaxed. I didn’t have the slightest inclination of what would happen next nor could I do anything about it, thus I waited.[/font][/blockquote]

What else could this stupid creature do to me? Plenty in retrospect. I was really sick of these pompous zodiac animals testing me in asinine ways. I wanted the rabbit back. Perhaps this was pay back for my Chuunin killing a dragon not too long ago. It wasn’t my fault really; the thing was killing off our farm animals and causing chaos within the village. I sighed and looked around. Whatever needed to be done would be done after all. Finally the dragon appeared. I sighed and looked over. “What do you want?” I asked with a tone of annoyance. I was done with this garbage.

“Fine too boring for you? Well try this on for size!” The world spun around me and changed. Suddenly I had warped into what appeared to be a very unseemly neighborhood. What was I supposed to do? I thought back to what I knew of the dragon once more. Judging by the state of this place and the ‘friendliness’ of the people I assumed this was a test of my dauntlessness. Wow that’s a weird word. Anywho the first guy glared me down, looking over my kimono like I was a geisha he didn’t particularly like. Too bad for him.

I continued walking through the half destroyed streets when a woman wearing brass knuckles stepped out in front of me, her eyes glaring daggers. “Why hello there!” I said cheerfully, taking a step closed to her, my body scant centimeters from hers. I had no reason to back down. I was a Raikage and I was a strong woman. Her visible weaponry and weak frame did nothing to frighten me. She glared me down for long minutes as I simply smiled back. Suddenly sadness crossed her face. “DAMMIT!” She screamed and ran off crying. Now that was an unexpected turn of events.

I loved these silly challenges. I continued walking. I hadn’t progressed two blocks when the woman returned with three of her friends, all baring blunt weaponry of some form. Was the group supposed to intimidate me as well? “Good evening,” I said before continuing on. Really these people needed to learn that there were better ways to intimidate people than weaponry. Something inside my head sparked making me want to show the group the proper way of intimidating a person. I doubled back quickly and found the obvious leader of this little gang. It was time to have some fun.

I drew myself up to my full height. Though she stood a few inches taller than me I carried a powerful presence. Every step I took forwards she took one back until she was pressed against a wall and I was standing in front of her with raised brows and folded arms. “Was this really the best you could do?” I asked, keeping my voice firm but quiet. The others were frozen, afraid of what to do or of what I would do to their leader. I took a step back and gave out a long laugh. “Go find someone else to play with!” I commanded quickly.[/font][/blockquote]

What a stupid thing. I really couldn’t stand spending my time doing these boring tests. The only thing that kept me going was knowing that this was the last time I’d ever have to freaking do it. I sighed and waited for the dragon to reappear to give me his next test. If he followed the patterns of the rest I would only have to undergo one more of his tests before getting to train on my own. Once that was done I promised myself that I would relax and train relatively easy techniques for some time. I deserved a break.

The little lizard that called himself a dragon appeared once more. “Boring is it? Fine. Fight me then.” I covered my mouth with my hand, barely concealing laughter. I could probably step on this thing and kill it if I wanted to. “Oh it’s on!” I exclaimed finally as I jumped to my feet. With a single hand seal he would already be in trouble. He would suffer a broken mind. Any action he wished to take would be reversed. He suddenly started scuttling backwards in what was obviously an attempt to close distance. So he wanted to stay up close, that meant I’d keep him at a range.

I leapt upwards, wings unfurling from my back as I did so. The dragon looked downwards, still trying to work his way around my technique. My butterflies took to the air, covering him in the powder meant to paralyze him. Suddenly he shot forwards, out from my cover of butterflies. A lucky dodge. A senbon from one of my many pouches flew towards him and he dodged expertly to the left. Damn, it seemed he had gotten the hang of working backwards while within my technique. Time for a new strategy. As I kept myself moving in the air I saw him look upwards and a large ball of fire exited his mouth. He had gone on the offensive.

I folded my wings and dove towards the ground to escape. As I skimmed the ground I grabbed the creature by the neck and took to the sky, planning on dropping him, or at least threatening to. I had barely lifted off however when his skin began to burn my flesh. I cursed and he fell harmlessly, laughing at my failure. I spun in mid air to fire off three more needles in an arc. He weaved through them as if they were nothing. This creature knew his evasion if nothing else. Well if he wanted to play with fire he could play my games too.

A ball of water hurtled towards the lizard who shot into the air, wings unfurling from his back as well. Damn there went another strategy. As soon as he took flight I dove downwards, hitting the earth and letting it envelop me so to hide my presence. After a long minute I reappeared on the surface. “That’s cheating.” I stated without much emotion. He glared at me. “You pass. Happy? Finally, done with the tests. I could relax now in the niches of my mind and simply work on the formation and application of the dragon seal. This is what I had wanted to do all along but as I well know, things don’t always go as planned. I settled down on a flat boulder in the sun and relaxed my mind. I stretched my hands and wrists quickly to hopefully prevent any problems that may result do to flexibility, or rather lack thereof. I was content and ready to begin the process. I quickly pictured the normal dragon hand seal and discerned what would need to be done in the half version.

I let my little finger curl towards the ground while my ring and index fingers curled towards my palm. Oh, it was already uncomfortable. So much for preparing. I released what I had completed of the seal thus far and returned to stretching out my protesting muscles. With the task completed for a second time I would return to attempting to performing the stupid hand symbol that I had foolishly set out to learn. My little finger followed the same path down towards the ground whilst my ring and index finger curled towards my palm. There was less resistance this time thankfully.

My middle finger remained extended apparently despite forming a rather obscene gesture. Finally my thumb half bent, pointing towards my opposite side, whatever the hell that meant. I held the seal for at least sixty seconds of absolute boredom before releasing it. Muscle memory and all that jazz were the keys here. With that done I would form the zodiac symbol again on the same hand which created, big surprise here, the same exact seal I had made before. I was so amazing sometimes. I’d deal with gathering chakra later because it sounded even more boring than this was if that was at all possible.

Now I had to play that whole ambidextrous game and do the same thing all over again on my left side. My that sounded thrilling. Thus my left hand, not the right, the left, would curl into the seal. Little finger towards the floor, index and ring fingers towards the palm, thumb half bent in a position I could not possibly comprehend and the middle finger raised in that same obscene gesture that would probably get me shot one day. Oh wait guns don’t exist. I held that seal for another long minute before releasing it and letting my muscles cope with the pain.

I did not bother forming it the seal a second time for I was more skilled with my left hand, or so I had been told. Now I just needed to focus on gathering the mystical energy known as chakra and apply it to the techniques so I could have a full working set of one handed seals which would somehow pay off in the long run. There weren’t too many practical applications that came to mind thus I would just have to think of more so this whole process would not be looked back on as a complete and total waste of my precious time.[/font][/blockquote]
