Shiro hiked to an open area, just outside the village. Tucked under his arms were several pages of notes he had taken after asking a few mist shinobi about different techniques that interested him. He sat them down on a rock, placing another small stone on top of the pages to prevent the wind from blowing them away.
He took the first paper he layed eyes on. It had general directions on how to preform a simple technique called "Wind Surf". It read:
" Form the rabbit handseal. Focus chakra to feet. Feel the wind as it blows past you and then push the chakra to the back of your feet. Maintain focus and use the chakra to surf on the wind. Keep balance and don't lose focus"
Shiro laughed and said "Sounds easy enough..."
He began focusing chakra to the back of his feet. He made the Rabbit handseal and maintained it. He felt the surge of energy in his toes at first and then he felt the sensation spread to the rest of his foot. A slight green aura of chakra emanated from this feet as he maintained focus, gradually shifting the chakra to the back of his heels. He felt the wind in his hair and then...... he fell forward, landing on his knees.
He had lost balance.
"Dammit!" he said to himself before standing back up and trying to repeat the process. He noticed that the sun was already halfway down its dissent, and night would come in a few hours. "I have to hurry... maybe I just need to shift my weight back a bit and ease up on the chakra I release..." he hypothesized.
He tried again, focusing some of his chakra to his feet while maintaining the rabbit handseal. He leaned back slightly and felt the wind again. He shifted the chakra to his heels and felt himself hover a bit off the ground. He maintained focus and pushed more chakra to his feet. Suddenly a gust of wind came and pushed him forward, startling him. He lost focus and fell, barrel-rolling as he landed.
He stood up, slightly dizzy from the fall. "This is getting tiresome, and its probably dinner time... but I really need to get this jutsu down before I leave so..." he said before standing and repeating the same process several times. Each time, he was able to go a bit faster and a bit further before falling.
The sun had begin to set when he finally made an almost completely successful surf. He rode the wind, going about three times his average running speed. He felt the air rush past him as he traveled at an extremely fast pace.
Without warning a bird flew in his way. He panicked and lost control, skipping off the ground on his back. He layed there for a while, letting the pain subside before getting up and walking back to the pile of notes he had brought with him. He layed down on the ground and stared at the darkened sky, he had surfed on the wind, and it left him exhausted.
"Stupid bird... " he finally groaned.
He passed out later with a smile of pride on his face.
