"Sonar"

Effect: The user can locate the general location of enemies.
Special: Bird, Boar, Ox
Drawback: Some objects might interfere with the sonar. Low rank provides a 2-D reading (explained below). Must be learned multiple times
Description: The user performs the need hand seals. From there, the user emits 3, very low pitched sound waves(via voice or weapon). The sound travels very quickly in a 360 degree radius. The low pitched sound bounces off various objects with the area and returns to the user to interpret. With this done, the user can pin point enemy movement and location in fractions of a second. The draw back to this that the sound wave only travels in a flat line until a C-rank is attained.
The user begins with 10 meters distance, increasing 20 Meters every time learned. After 50 meters, Training is moved to a C-Rank, which then allows the user to emit the sound wave in all three dimensions. Every time learned in C-ranked increase the distance to 25 meters, With a maximum of 150 meters.
Limit: Must have sound release.

Amarante entered the training grounds of Konoha and found herself a spot in an empty clearing. The previous day she had taught herself the sound release, though got mad at some birds and had to finish her training on her way home, and she was now going to make use of knowing that skill by learning the sonar technique.

Taking out a scroll from her back pack, Amarante read over the instructions for performing the jutsu correctly. Apparently there were two different levels of difficulty with this technique, the first giving the user an incomplete but adequate version of the jutsu and the second giving a better, more detailed overview of the area.

The general idea of learning the sonar technique was for her to be able to see while using the hidden mist technique so why not use the technique to help her train the sonar?

Forming the required hand signs, Amarante called forth a deep dense mist that she could barely see through, visibility at its very minimum. Placing her backpack down to her left, she made the hand signs ‘Bird, Boar, Ox’ and began to hum a low pitched tune followed quickly by two others.

The sound waves coursed through the area in all directions and returned to Amarante who had difficulty interpreting them. It was all unclear and to unfocused. Trying a different, lower tone this time, Amarante tried again.

She emitted three sound waves using her voice at a really low pitch this time, the sound waves coursing and returning to her. She was able to see things clearer this time, being able to interpret it better.

She gave a go of moving around using the sonar as a means of direction. It was going good for a little while, she was able to avoid running into trees and large objects etcetera but she kept brushing her legs against smaller thing that she couldn’t see, even at this level of training.

Deciding that she still wasn’t exactly caught up to speed with the jutsu, Amarante recast the jutsu forming the hand signs (Bird, Boar, Ox) she hummed a tone a little deeper, casting out three sound waves.

This time she was able to make out things as best as she at this level of training she assumed, and held some confidence in her movements, being able to ‘see’ her surroundings much better. It really was a good technique but still at this level it was just too incomplete.

In the future though, when she had perfected it to a better level, she was sure that it would come very much in handy.

(OOC: Will repeat this technique another three times so I can utilise it to its full advantage. First time learning.)

Jigoku no Mimi (Hells ears) Universal

Effect: With this technique the user is capable of figuring the location of where a sound is coming from. This takes a post in order for this type of technique may take place.
Special: "Hand signs" and "Holds with the Boar"
Drawback: The user must stand still, with their eyes closed in order for the user to gain the capability of judging the direction of the sound.
Description: The way this works is that the user concentrates along the Sound release as they push the chakra along towards their ears. As the user does this, they concentrate on certain sounds that surrounds the user. If the sounds are in a large area and more sounds is created the user is capable of identifying the general location as to where the sound is coming from.

Amarante was happy that her training with the sonar technique was going so well but she was a little disgruntled that it was taking to long for her being able to move around in the mist comfortably.

Cutting her loses (for the moment) with the sonar technique, as it would take to long to train it to a level she would be comfortable with, Amarante pulled out a different scroll from the back pack she carried after the hidden mist technique had dispersed, one for the hells ears technique.

This technique was an interesting one. By focusing chakra into her ears she’d be able to distinguish where a sound was coming from, for example if she were using the hidden mist jutsu she’d be able to focus in on an enemy’s breathing as a means of tracking, a very useful thing to be capable of.

Reading through and memorising the technique, Amarante placed the scroll back into her back pack and took out her drink bottle, pouring it on the ground. How wass she going to train this jutsu if she didn’t have anything to track? With this in mind, Amarante performed the water clone jutsu and created a replica of herself.

The clone would provide a sufficient enough traceable target, so she instructed it to move around the area as she closed her eyes and attempted the jutsu. At first she was able to hear the clone move around easily even without the technique so she asked the clone to be more discrete in its motions.

Taking her instruction in, the clone became almost completely silent as it moved, having been trained as a ninja really did have its perks. Happy that it was quiet enough, Amarante began to focus her chakra to her ears, magnifying her hearing ability.

Everything was so loud to her in the state she was in, she could hear birds chirping in trees, the leaves rustling in the breeze and even the water flowing in the river/lake so much clearer, it was almost annoying. What was she saying almost? She hated them birds and their chirping, it was so damn annoying.

Focusing now on the task at hand, Amarante searched for the clones’ sound of movement. She was tracking its foot steps at the moment as they would be louder and easier to her in comparison with breathing and soon enough she managed to located the clone and its movements.

The clones found now, Amarante asked it to move into another location while she covered her ears so she could try locate it via its breathing. This would prove harder as she tried focusing her hearing. The clones’ breaths were light and shallow and the sounds of the forest were getting in the way.

Before long though, Amarante managed to get a general location for the clones breathing and managed to locate the clone a little bit later. Happy with her progress Amarante returned to her backpack in search of another scroll.

(OOC: This was the original jutsu I wanted to match up with the hidden mist jutsu so I decided it’d be best to have it though sonar seems like it would be great, it would just be a give away with the noise though so Am training another jutsu to counter that.)

Bo-karu Koukyoukyoku Chishiki (Vocal Symphony Knowledge)

Effect: Allows the user to use Gakushi Voice techniques.

Drawback: The user cannot perform hand seals when utilizing voice techniques.
Description: This technique is the user's ability to combine their chakra with the vibrations emanating from their vocal cords, creating the unique voice techniques. In order to be able to perform a Voice technique, the user must have this technique of a corresponding rank. Thus, if they want to learn a D Rank Voice technique, they must have Bo-karu Koukyoukyoku Chishiki D Rank. C Rank is required for C Rank techniques, and so on.

Searching through her back pack, Amarante came across a rather unusual jutsu she managed to pick up at the Konoha library while she was their. It contained intrusions on vocal symphony techniques, more specifically the Gakushi Voice techniques.

Sitting down at the base of a tree while she read, she found out that she would actually have to learn this technique before learning another technique from a scroll she had also borrowed from the library. “Lucky” she said aloud to herself. It was really, she needed to learn this other technique as it would provide better cover for the sonar she would use in conjunction with the hidden mist technique.

Having memorised what the scroll had said for her to do, Amarante packed it away and prepared herself for practicing the technique. She quietly confident she could pick it up without much trouble, all she had to do was combine her chakra with her vocal cords to effect their vibration, couldn’t be too hard.

Clearing her throat, Amarante began to hum a nice light tone in constant, “Ah”. Her first tone was a base line so she could notice if her chakra was affecting the vocal chords. Adding a slight amount of chakra into the mix, the result was that her voice was now louder with less effort, “Ah!”

Slightly adjusting her chakra now, she made her voice quieter while still putting the same amount of effort, “ah”. Changing the chakra flow completely now, Amarante began to sound really high pitched, like a chip monk of some sort, “~Ah~”. Slightly altering the flow once more, she produced a very low tone, like a sleepy dog that had just woken up, “A h”.

Taking a breath before she continued, Amarante rubbed her throat. It was beginning to get tickly from her chakra input and it was putting her on the verge of laughing almost. It probably wasn’t meant to work like that though so she continued to practice her constant vocal changing.

She switched her tone from high, “~Ah~”, to low, “A h”. From loud, “Ah!”, to quiet, “ah”. She practiced again and again until she felt as though she could continue to produce the notes for a while without needing to laugh.

Giggling, Amarante decided to take a break from training. Her throat was beginning to feel a little weird although training sound jutsu was beginning to get really fun.

(OOC: Really didn’t know how to train this jutsu so I just made it up)

Taking a swig from her drink bottle, Amarante stood up and walked over to her back pack, tucking away the vocal symphony knowledge scroll and producing the echo confusion scroll. Reading over the instructions, she scratched her head in confusion.

She was meant to make an echo of her voice using this jutsu but how? Sure it would work well in conjunction with the sonar technique but if she couldn’t figure out how to use it well then she was screwed. The whole technique, and the base of her confusion, was that she needed to split her vocal sound waves.

“Is that even possible?” she outwardly questioned. “Well anything’s worth a try I guess” so placing the scroll next to the back pack she had brought along with her today, she cleared her throat and prepared to give the jutsu an attempt though she didn’t know how successful she would be in said attempt. She really was swinging in dark, even with the instruction manuals help.

Grunting, she produced a constant note, “Ah”. It was light and pretty, for all her shyness in the area she apparently was a good singer. She used this note as a base line for the jutsu and focusing chakra into her vocal chords, she tried to ‘split’ the sounds waves she emitted into separate pieces.

A while went by and all she was able to do so far was to just raise and lower the volume and pitch of her voice. No progress of note was made in the area of sound wave splitting as of yet and her determination was wavering.

By complete accident however, Amarante managed to make her voice sound as if two people were speaking at once however it was only for a second. Trying to get this same effect to occur once again, she tried to follow the same sort of chakra flow she had just previously completed.

Successfully creating another two course harmony, Amarante tried once again. “Ah Ah”, again success. “Right now I think I’m getting this” she exclaimed aloud. Moving over to the scroll once more and opening it, she was able to understand what the it was trying to convey easier this time, having knowledge on how to complete the technique at a very minor level now.

Smirking, Amarante packed the scroll away and tried the jutsu once more. “Ah Ah” she sang, an echo quickly following her voice. Great, now she was able to split her voice in two but it wasn’t enough as of yet and she tried once again.

Trying to focus her chakra more precisely now, Amarante began to sing her tune once more. “Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah”. Excellent, her voice was now split into lots of echo’s, each one sounding being split up and rushed in different directions, making it difficult for even her to figure out where the original sound came from.

Once again happy with her progress, Amarante packed away her things and prepared to return the scrolls she borrowed to the library as she exited the training grounds after yet another successful day.

(OOC: This is the reason I learnt the Bo-karu Koukyoukyoku Chishiki (Vocal Symphony Knowledge) technique. This jutsu combined with the water clone jutsu, sonar jutsu and hidden mist jutsu would be awesome.

Effect: Creates a shark of condensed water that leaps from its water source and quickly rushes to its target where it explodes on contact.
Special: “Handseals”
Drawback: Requires a water source.
Description: After forming handseals, the user forms a shark from water near them which will leap from the body of water. The projectile will quickly lock onto its target and fly towards it, exploding on contact with enough force to severely damage an unarmored opponent. The shark will move as fast as a taijutsu master of the same rank as the user.

Amarante took to the training fields, high level scrolls ‘borrowed’ from the Kusa library in toe. Luckily she had some high connections in the village at the time and she was able to borrow so many. The librarian was reluctant to let her borrow them at first but when she mentioned who she was said librarian quickly changed her tune.

“Oh to be so powerful” she nonchalantly said aloud to herself in reminiscence but she quickly scolded herself for doing so. It was her family’s pride in that power that forced her into this situation she was in now, no family to claim, no one to return home to. It was all their fault and she would make them pay but one step at a time. First up she would have to learn some jutsu powerful enough to do some damage and that was exactly what she was going to be doing with these ‘borrowed’ scrolls. Right here, right now.

Setting down her back pack underneath a tree by the river/lake, she rummaged around inside the pack searching for a jutsu that could do some real damage. Stumbling upon one that seemed fairly interesting Amarante opened it up and read it out aloud.

“Suikoudan no Jutsu - Water Shark Projectile Technique… Sounds interesting” she yielded as she read over the description. “After forming hand seals, the user forms a shark from water near them which will leap from the body of water. The projectile will quickly lock onto its target and fly towards it, exploding on contact with enough force to severely damage an unarmoured opponent… Definitely sounds interesting.

Selecting this jutsu as the technique she would learn today, she deposited the scrolls she had remaining into the back pack under the tree and began practice on this devastating technique.

Reading over the jutsu’s instructions, Amarante looked over the images provided along side the writing. The whole idea was for the technique to be a replication of a shark so, as such, Amarante decided to start off with that. First off, she made the hand signs and tried to envelope the water in a shark shape, using the image included within the scroll as a basis of what a shark would actually look like.

Nothing would happen when she tried the technique though. The water wouldn’t even ripple as she injected it with her chakra. Getting frustrated, Amarante began to yell at the water. “Gr come on! Water Shark Projectile Technique! Come on!” she hollered.

The water seemed to react to her yelling however and she managed to make a small splash as the jutsu flared up upon her attempt. A little annoyed at the diminutive splash she had made, Amarante continued to speak to herself, although not as loudly as before. “Alright one more time and then I’ll get it, hands down, no problem” she assured herself.

Flipping through the hand signs once more, Amarante called out the Jutsu’s name. “Water Shark Projectile Technique” she hollered once more, a small splash was her only reward however and once again, just like that, she was angry at the water again.

“That’s what you call the Water Shark Projectile Technique?” a strange, hoarse voice spoke out of no where, startling Amarante. She looked all around for any sign of the perpetrator but they remained unseen and the voice sounded as if it came from all directions. “How pitiful” said voice continued to ridicule.

Annoyed that someone was making fun of her, Amarante fool hardily raised her voice to the speaker and demanded they show themselves. “Who said that?! Come on, show yourself coward!” she shouted in her anger.

The individual who owned the voice she was addressing seemed to agree to her demand. “Hehe okay” he said, appearing but a foot behind the girl suddenly. Amarante quickly spun around and gained some distance between herself and the person who she could now clearly identify as a male.

“Who are you?” she barked in question, taking up a defensive stance and withdrawing her Katana. The man was very tall, probably about six foot four, wore a large black rob covering his body and concealing it from view though she could tell he was muscle bound and he carried a large, giant sword on a holster on his back but was what really was weird about this guys was his skin. His skin was a bizarre blue colour and it appeared that he was scaly or something, it was really unappealing.

The man began to laugh when he heard Amarante’s question. “Hehe really you don’t know who I am?” he questioned, rasing an inquisitive eyebrow. Amarante shook her head, no. “HN then how about you let me tell you then…” he paused. “My name’s…” he began, moving a hand to his swords hilt.

Amarante braced herself in preparation of a battle that was on its way, the unnamed man was taking his time and he moved very slowly. Suddenly though he moved faster then Amarante’s eyes could keep up with. “I’m the great Hoshigaki bitch!” he shouted, making an incredibly flamboyant pose, his knees bent outwards, a hand on his forehead in salute, the other straight and pointing away from his body.

Amarante tripped over her feet and sweat dropped upon seeing the motion, almost stabbing herself with her own sword in the process. “W-what the hell was that?” she wailed in frustration, the man just chuckling in response.

“Heh, what that?” he indifferently enquired. “That’s just how I introduce myself and now that I have how about you do me the honour of giving me your name?” Amarante struggled with the mans request. If she told him her real name she’d be an idiot but if she lied to him and he was able to recognise it she’d be in real trouble if he took offence. “… Well?” the blue man pressured.

‘Screw it, what’s the worst that could happen’ she discounted. It wasn’t as though the name she went by was her actual name anyway so really what harm could come of it. “My name’s Amarante” she stated boldly, eyes not venturing away from the large man. “Do you have any other names other then ‘the great Hoshigaki?” she questioned.

The blue man just sneered. “I used to but I haven’t for a while now” he explained casually. “Now back to the matter at hand… What the hell was that?! You call that piece of crap the WSPJ?! That’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen!” Hoshigaki bellowed.

Amarante had to cover her ears as the man spoke. He was even louder then she was when she was learning the sound release and got a bit carried away, and he didn’t even seem to be using any jutsu. “Ah give me a break that was like the third time I’ve even tried it!” she implored, half deaf.

The Great Hoshigaki rubbed his chin in thought. “Oh so you’re just starting out are you?” he asked rhetorically. “Well sorry, I only heard you yelling a moment ago and came to investigate, finding you pitifully attempting the jutsu.” Narrowing her eyes, Amarante was about to retort but Hoshigaki cut in before she could. “So how about I teach you to make up for my rudeness?” he offered.

Looking up and down Hoshigaki for a head band, Amarante spoke bluntly. “But I don’t see a headband on you. Are you even a ninja?” she enquired, only ninja are supposed to be able to perform Ninjutsu and other then that, only ninja are supposed to be in the training grounds.

The great Hoshigaki began to rub the back of his head, nervous. “Oh that Ah ha ha, I must have just misplaced it. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a missing ninja or anything; I really am a shinobi from this village ‘cough’ lying ‘cough.”

Well that seemed like a good enough explanation, he just miss placed it is all. She backed up a bit when he coughed though, she didn’t want to get sick or anything. “Right, well… If you really wanna help me then that’s fine with me, I’d appreciate it.”

“Great!” Hoshigaki exclaimed, delighted. “Well how about you give it one more shot and I’ll have a look and see where it is you’re going wrong.”

Amarante nodded. “Yeah that sounds reasonable enough” she confirmed, taking a position by the lake/river. She formed the hand signs, taking her time to build her chakra and inject it into the water around her, attempting to form a shark. “Water Shark Projectile Technique” she hollered once she felt she had built enough chakra.

The technique fizzled however and only managed to create a small splash, the ripples quickly dying. “So that was it, huh?” Amarante nodded. “Want me to show you how it’s really done?” She nodded once more. “Right well check out that tree over there” he pointed over the river/lake to a large tree that was easily distinguishable from the rest. “Well check this out.”

Quickly, and expertly, flipping through some hand signs, The Great Hoshigaki called out the technique’s name. “Water Shark Projectile Technique!” at his words, the water around him streaked up and produced a shark of compressed water. The shark then proceeded to careen forwards, into the tree and destroying it, exploding upon impact.

Now that’s how it’s supposed to be done” The Great Hoshigaki jeered a smirk on his lips.

Amarante’s eyes were wide in disbelief. That was really the jutsu she was trying to learn? It just levelled a tree without much effort, this truly was the kind of jutsu she was looking for and she wanted it. She wanted the power, the power to destroy those who have hurt her, to destroy those who just happened to be there, to destroy the entire land of grass, levelling it off the map… To kill people to sum it up.

The Great Hoshigaki continued with his self righteous attitude. “HN not bad if I don’t say so myself” he grinned cocking his lip in amusement. He was right to be smug though. He performed the jutsu so easily; he must have access to much more powerful jutsu. Something Amarante would have to bring up in the near future.

Apparently The Great Hoshigaki had managed to stay focused on Amarante’s training and asked her a question on how she was attempting the jutsu. “So now that you know how the jutsu’s supposed to be performed. Maybe you should explain to me how you’ve been attempting it?”

His suggestion seemed relevant, if she was to learn off of the blue man she’d have to tell him how she’d been attempting it. “Well Really I’ve just been focusing my chakra into the water, trying to make the shape of a shark” she disclosed, a little confused on how to really explain her methods.

“Well that’s you problem!” Hoshigaki exclaimed causing Amarante to look up to him in confusion. Elaborating on what he meant, The Great Hoshigaki continued. “You’re just a beginner so I’m going to let you get away with this little mistake but you’ll have to rap your head around it if you really want to master this jutsu.” The Great Hoshigaki held his right index finger up in explanation as he spoke making him look like he knew a lot about the jutsu (which he probably did).

“Well then what do I have to do then?” Amarante asked her large, scaled teacher.

Hoshigaki smiled (creepy) before he proceeded. “You’re focusing on the shape to much. This jutsu is focused on condensed water meaning that the water has become compacted, forced to compress into the shape of a shark.” Amarante still wasn’t getting what he meant so Hoshigaki continued his explanation. “Umm let me think… Oh I got it, think of an ordinary pillow well when you moosh that pillow into a tight little ball it takes up less space but when you let go it returns to how it previously was.”

Amarante began to get it now. “Oh so I’m meant to get a lot of water and then pressure it into the form of a shark!” she exclaimed. The great Hoshigaki smiled and nodded his agreement. Enlightened now, Amarante beamed of confidence. “I’m gonna get this thing now” she pre maturely boasted.

The Great Hoshigaki chuckled at the girls’ enthusiasm. “Hahaha well I’m glad your confident about this but how about we try the jutsu first before we get all riled up and haywire, eh?” Amarante brushed him off with a wave of her hand. “Oh and by the way girl, it’s probably best you just try and condense the water into a ball for your first attempt and not worry to much about whether or not it looks like a shark.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah” Amarante aberrantly brushed off the scaly man. “What are you, my mother?” she continued to heckle as she began to form the hand signs. Taking a deep breath, Amarante attempted the technique. She flipped through the hand signs as fast as her fingers could move, forced her chakra through the water, beginning to compress it into a ball.

Calling out the name of the technique, she unleashed the jutsu. “Water Shark Projectile Technique” she called, a ball of water threw itself from the water upon her command but quickly flopped back down and out of the water.

“Well that was a bit underwhelming” the Great Hoshigaki commented after a moment of silence. “At least you’ve made a little progress with the technique.”

Amarante snapped, she did not want to her words of criticize from this man for some reason. “A little bit of progress isn’t going to help out in a battle now is it?” she screamed. Returning to her practice, Amarante gave the Hoshigaki member one final thought. “Now unless you’ve got a way to help me learn this jutsu quicker just shut up and let me train.”

The Great Hoshigaki rubbed his chin in thought. “A way to help you learn the jutsu faster huh?” he began, ensuring that a toothy grin made its way to Amarante’s eyes. Amarante in return gave the large blue man a glare that could send a rhino in the other direction.

“You know a way?” she enquired.

Scratching the side of his head, Hoshigaki continued to tease the girl. “Maybe…” he trailed off.

Amarante was not having any of that however. She marched right up to the very much stronger individual and grabbed him by the collar, pulling him down so he would look her in the eyes. “If you know of a way then spill it” she warned through clenched teeth.

Hoshigaki began to giggle. “Fufufu you won’t like it” he cautioned in amusement, his voice going higher.

“I. Don’t. Care” the young blonde replied, undeterred. “Now tell me! How am I meant to get stronger?! How am I meant to learn this jutsu faster?!”

“Hehe that’s easy” Hoshigaki stated cheerfully. “We go on a quest.”

“We go on a quest?” Amarante repeated in puzzlement. “What do you mean we do on a quest?”

Chuckling, The Great Hoshigaki verified. “Hehe I mean just that” he answered. “If we go on this quest you’ll learn the jutsu faster. It’s as simple as that.”

Amarante wasn’t completely convinced though. “So all I have to do is go on this quest and by the time I get back I’ll know how to use the jutsu?” Hoshigaki nodded. “Then let’s go then!” she exclaimed, running to go and pick up her back pack.

The Great Hoshigaki had to stop her however. “Hold on there young one. Before we set off on this quest, you have to train your jutsu to a certain point, a bare minimum if you would so put it” he elucidated

Amarante’s smile faded. “Really can’t I just go like I am now?” she wondered. This quest was meant to teach her the technique in the first place, why would she need to train now before they even set off?

“If you want to get killed then yes we can go now but I highly recommend that you train a little before we go” the blue man suggested, Amarante caved.

“Fine” she sighed. Dieing didn’t really sit well on her agenda right now. Later maybe but not while her parent still lived. Not while the land of Kusa was still an operating shinobi village.

Walking back over to the lake/river side, Amarante tried the jutsu once more. She decided that she wasn’t putting enough chakra into the technique and so this time she worked on that. She dredged up as much chakra as she could before releasing the technique and forming the hand signs.

Next all she had to do was use the chakra she hand built up and focused with her hands signs to compress the water but not so much as to make it the size of a ping pong ball. Happy she had fulfilled all the requirements, she unleashed the jutsu. “Water Shark Projectile Technique!” she screamed, a hint of agony in her voice.

Her efforts seemed to pay off though, she was able to hurl a condensed ball of water ten meters before it exploded on it’s own without any outside interference. Panting, Amarante turned to The Great Hoshigaki for evaluation of her attempt. “’Pant’ ‘Pant’ well was that okay?” she enquired.

The Great Hoshigaki nodded. “Yes that’ll be fine…” Amarante’s pace lit up “… As long as you can do it three times in a row.”

Amarante tripped over her own feet at his words. “What?! What’s that about?” she beseeched. The Great Hoshigaki just shrugged.

“Well look at yourself” he pointed out. “You’re already exhausted. Ripe for the killing if you were on the battlefield. You’d be as harmless as a wet kitten in your state.” Amarante grunted in frustration.

She really was fairly exhausted right now. She put a bit too much into that jutsu, evident by the unwanted explosion of the jutsu. Rising to the occasion however, Amarante was determined not to give up yet. She was to close to give up right now.

So the young, preteen, blonde girl tried again and again to master the jutsu. If she did it right now maybe there wasn’t any need for her to go on some stupid quest and she could just get the guy to teach her more powerful jutsu instead. Egged on by this thought, Amarante could hardly even notice how tired she had become and she kept going through the technique time after time again until the inevitable happened and she passed out from exhaustion.

“Well, well, look who’s waking up” Amarante heard a voice speak as she began to open her eyes. “You know it serves you right. You were training like a mad man back their, you know?”

Her eyes now fully awake, Amarante noticed she was sprawled out next to a small fire and it was now past noon, judging by the position of the sun. Turning her head, Amarante caught sight of The Great Hoshigaki, the owner of the previously spoken voice. “I had to train the jutsu to the point where I could be allowed to go on this quest, thing with you. My intense training seemed like the only course of action.”

The Great Hoshigaki smiled nonchalantly. “Well if you die of exhaustion that sort of puts a stop to the quest then and there, doesn’t it?” he teased. Amarante didn’t dignify his statement with a response.

Instead she just made her way back over to the lake/river she had been practicing once more. “You know you’re going to kill yourself?!” Hoshigaki called out to her, Amarante however had no desire to listen. She formed the hand signs for the jutsu, hoping to condense the ball of water to a degree to a degree she could use but not have it explode by accident.

Successfully performing the technique (to the degree that Hoshigaki had indicated was acceptable for her to go on the quest), Amarante once again performed the jutsu. ‘Build up the chakra’ the thought crossed her mind. ‘Condense the water and…’ Splash the jutsu activated, carrying a ball of water ten meters in front of her before exploding. “Good just one more” she said aloud to herself, forming the hand signs and focusing her chakra once more.

Her little passing out stint had its advantages. She was a bit more rested now, able to perform the jutsu less exhausted. It was beneficial, just this last one and then- oh no. The jutsu had collapsed before she had the time to cast it, having gotten distracted by her own thoughts. ‘Gr now I’ll have to start again” she inwardly cursed.

Forming the hand signs once more, Amarante attempted the jutsu again. She compressed the water, forced it to protrude for the water and sent it sailing about ten meters before it blew up by accident once more. ‘One’ she mentally counted as she prepared the next attempt.

Casting the jutsu it flew two meters longer then usual before exploding, giving Amarante some more confidence. ‘Two’ the mental count added as she once more attempted the jutsu. Taking her time and focusing on every movement she made, she cast the jutsu, her every hope riding on this one attempt. As it materialised out of the water she held some real confidence.

This one seemed a bit different then the attempts she had previously made. It was if she felt every ounce of chakra move in a way more real then had previously and it was very possible that it was. The jutsu flew over the river/lake and slammed into a tree to the left of the one that The Great Hoshigaki had previously destroyed with his jutsu, blowing up upon contact.

Amarante’s version of the technique though wasn’t as powerful as his though. It had only just managed to destroy one that was already partially (actually majorly) destroyed by Hoshigaki. It was annoying that she wasn’t as proficient as he was but she was making progress and that was all that mattered.

Turning her head to face the man, she smiled whilst putting her hands on her knees and panting once more. “How was that?” she asked in between breaths. “Good enough to go on your quest yet?”

The Great Hoshigaki smiled back at the girl and nodded. “HN yeah you’re good enough, though I hate to admit it” the scaled man spoke honestly. “Really I was hoping you’d bomb out by now but hell it looks like you’re gonna make me take you on this quest after all. Oh well, come on we’ll grab some lunch before we head out, I’ve been cooking some stew on the fire while you been practicing.”

That sounded good, Amarante had to admit. She had passed out before and had missed out on lunch already. Taking the man up on his offer, she made her way over to the fire side. “Alright then, sounds good. What kind of stew is it?” she asked politely?”

The Great Hoshigaki coughed and muffled his words. “’Cough’ ah –people- ‘cough’ humph.”

Amarante tilted her head in confusion as she didn’t quiet make it out. “I’m sorry what was that?”

Stammering his words now, The Great Hoshigaki tried to rebuttal. “O-oh I ah said meat stew, yeah ah meat stew. You’re not a vegetarian now are you?” he asked trying to change the subject.

Succeeding in his attempt, Amarante bought in and answered him. “No I’m not a vegetarian, don’t worry” she said innocently, causing the Great Hoshigaki to sigh in relief. “That really does smell good” she commented.

The Great Hoshigaki smirked. “Yeah it’s my secret recipe, I use it when I’m out on long missions and I feel like eating something good.” Pointing his right indexing finger in the air he continued. “Yeah it’s my secret recipe so I won’t tell you what the ingredients are no matter how much you beg me” he added a wink as he finished speaking.

Amarante shrugged. “Hey fine with me, It’s not like I’m a gourmet cook or something.”

Amarante rubbed her stomach, full. That really was a good meal and it wasn’t just the fact that she was exhausted and starving speaking, it really was good. It looked like pork at first but it ended up tasting like beef, it was really weird but nice. It filled her up so easy too. She had thought that she’d eat at least ten dishes of the stew but she only ended up having three (The Great Hoshigaki had ten though).

Standing up, Amarante stretched her back out. “Right so now then let’s get started on this quest thing” she announced, The Great Hoshigaki however didn’t seem too interested.

He was lying on his side, a tooth pick in hand, cleaning his teeth. “Come on, haven’t you heard that you need to wait half an hour after eating before going swimming?”

Amarante raised an eye brow inquisitively. “You mean we’re going swimming?” she enquired. She really wasn’t expecting that nor was she really prepared, maybe if she was able to go home she would be but she doubted Hoshigaki would allow her too once they set off.

Hoshigaki screwed up his face in annoyance. “No of course not, it’d be too far out of the question not to go swimming when we’re training water style jutsu” he sarcastically replied. “Come on, what’d ya think we’d be doing, going to a desert? Don’t be stupid.” Scratching his chin in thought, The Great Hoshigaki asked her a question before she could argue. “Oh by the way, you know the jutsu to breathe under water right?” he enquired.

She did so Amarante nodded in confirmation. “Yeah so we’re going under water then are we?” she asked him.

“Yeah it’ll be a thing in what we do” he verified, closing his eyes and rolling on his back, resting his head on his hands. “We’ll go in half an hour, when the food we’ve eaten is digested. Do what you want until then, just don’t go swimming” he warned, his blue scales now looking black as a cloud passed over the sun.

Amarante poked her tongue out at him in a childish manner. Who was he, her mother? She stomped over to the water side, if she really did have to wait half an hour then she might as well get a little practice in. Forming the required hand signs she cast the jutsu, creating a ball about the size of a basket ball which proceeded to slam into a tree on the opposite side of the river/lake.

It appeared as though she really was getting the hang of it so she decided to kick it up a notch. She forced more water into her jutsu this time, attempting to create a ball the size of a medium sized exercise ball. Her first attempt didn’t exactly go to well and it exploded after travelling the ten meters it usually goes, splashing her with the aftershock.

Attempting it again, she had some mild success. It almost went all the way over the river/lake before blowing up, signifying that she was getting better with the technique. ‘Once more and I’ve got this!’ she inwardly told herself. Building up her chakra she tired once again and cast the jutsu.

The jutsu went all the way across the water and slammed into another tree, exploding on impact. Amarante smiled. The jutsu’s strength was comparable to The Great Hoshigaki’s, not as powerful but comparable.

Since it had only been a few minutes, Amarante decided that she would continue with her practice until Hoshigaki called upon her to go questing. Taking a quick glance back towards the man, Amarante checked if he was still there.

He was, still lying down and probably sleeping.

After Amarante had been practicing the jutsu again for a while, she had been making some small progress. It was now a lot easier for her to make the mid sized ball of water chakra perform how she wanted to now but she was once again beginning to feel the same sense of exhaustion she had been all day, her meal now being almost completely worked off.

As if being saved by the bell however, The Great Hoshigaki called her over, the thirty minutes now having expired. “Alright come here girl, it’s time we shove off” he barked, stretching his back out as he climbed to his feet.

Less then impressed, Amarante shot the man a cold glare. “Don’t speak to me as if I’m a beast” she would warn.

Hoshigaki smirked at the girls’ spunk. “HN you’re not a beast yet Amarante” he jeered. “Maybe after you learn a few more of the powerful water style jutsu you will be but until then, you’re just a girl with some little magic tricks.”

Though she felt very insulted (and with good reason), Amarante choose to use this situation the Hoshigaki had given her and make it beneficial, using it as an attempt to coax more training from the guy. “Well then why don’t you stick around and teach me some more?” she proposed. If he did she’d advance a lot quicker or so she assumed.

It was true, Hoshigaki gave her some advice that appeared to have helped her but other then that he didn’t really do too much. It was all dependant on this quest of his that she’d want him to stick around or not but she had to raise the question now if she wanted the option later. Still smirking, The Great Hoshigaki gave his response. “Well we’ll see, if you manage to learn the technique then yeah I’ll teach you some more but if not then you get no teaching from me again.”

That sounded like a fair offer. “Fine” Amarante agreed. “But remember if I do learn the technique, I have access to all the jutsu you posses and you have to teach me it if I ask.”

“Hehe save that argument until after you’ve won our little wager” Hoshigaki chuckled. “Now let me check one last time, you know how to breathe under water right?” he ensured.

Nodding Amarante agreed. “Yeah I know it although I can only stay under for about twenty minutes” she informed the large, blue man.

“Well it’ll have to do” Hoshigaki sighed. “Well then, take my hand and we’ll be on our way. I know a teleportation jutsu that can get us where we need to go.”

Amarante squinted her eyes. “If you have a teleportation jutsu then how is it called a quest?”

“You’re just splitting hairs” The Great Hoshigaki brushed off with a wave of his hand. “Now come on, let’s just get this over with. I’ll give you your instructions once we get there.”

Shrugging, Amarante naively took the mans hand (something she would later regret). Producing a large grin on his face, the Great Hoshigaki performed the jutsu without speaking a word so as to give Amarante reference to what it was.

When they arrived at their destination, Amarante looked around. Weird, coral like trees were in the area as well as sand. It was weird, almost as if she was… Under Water! Hoshigaki had teleported them under the ocean some where and looking up Amarante could see nothing but… Sharks!

Hundreds of them, they were circling them as if awaiting a meal. Turning to the man now, Amarante noticed that he was relaxed and composed. “Use the under water technique” he instructed, Amarante quickly taking him up on his offer.

Noticing that the girl had finished doing what he had instructed, he once again took command and coached her through his training methods. “Right, well right now there are about two thousand hungry sharks circling us but don’t worry they know me, I’m their friend so I’m not in any danger.”

Amarante sighed in relief. It was okay they wouldn’t eat her. The Great Hoshigaki however continued with his explanation. “They don’t, on the other hand, know you. So you’re in as much danger as ever.” Amarante became panicked once again though The Great Hoshigaki proceeded to speak. “Your only chance of getting out of here alive is if I teleport us back to the training grounds so tell me. Do you want to live?” he enquired.

Amarante quickly nodded. “Then you’ll have to correctly perform the water shark projectile technique. It’s the only way I’ll let you out of here alive but be warned. If you mess up you’ll just piss of the sharks so you better get this done and quickly.”

This guy was crazy! Was the only thing Amarante was thinking? She’d have to perform it right, here and now. She’d have no second chance with this; she’d have to just wing it or something. It was all she could pray for.

Forming the hand signs, Amarante prepared the jutsu. The sharks were slowly edging closer though this and were now all around her and the shark man she was next to. If she were to cast the jutsu she’d hit one of them, just pissing off the swarm. This really was hell.

Swallowing an invisible lump in her throat, Amarante tried it out. She not only had to make the thing explode but she had to make it look like a shark as she did so. This guy was really laying it on thick.

Focusing on this new detail, Amarante tried to produce the desired technique. The jutsu held firm and for a while looked as though it was going to be a hit but things never work out how we want them to. It quickly turned back into the ball she was used to creating and slammed into the circling sharks.

“Ooh that’s gonna make them mad” The Great Hoshigaki commented as the swam of sharks began to swim faster.

Amarante’s face swelled with fear. The sharks were circling so fast and were getting so close to her. Out of desperation she tried the jutsu once more. Forming the hand signs she tried to dredge up enough chakra but couldn’t and the jutsu fizzled.

“Calm down” The (not-so) Great Hoshigaki pleaded. “If you panic too much the sharks are just gonna get more rowdy and you’re not going to be able to build up your chakra.”

‘That’s easy for you to say!’ Amarante inwardly screamed at the scaled man. He was right though; a good shinobi knew how to control their fear so they could perform to their best ability. Taking a moment to calm herself (which at the present time was difficult to do) Amarante attempted the jutsu again. Forming the hand signs she tried as hard as she could to get the jutsu to work focusing on creating the shape of a shark.

She managed through sheer luck to produce the technique in the shape of a shark and held a smile as it flew off towards the swam of sharks that was fast approaching. She thought she was home free; however, the jutsu blew prematurely (put your hand up if you’ve ever had that problem ) and failed to damage even one of the sharks though it did however manage to block out the sharks from sight, putting her at an even greater disadvantage.

Dodging a tiger shark which swooped in for a bite, Amarante tried the jutsu once more. She built her chakra, formed the shark, yes, cast the jutsu and… Damn, it once again blew prematurely (I really can’t help myself ).

Another two sharks swooped in, attempting to take her right leg and left arm off. She managed to evade them, bouncing off the first to dodge the second and heard the Great Hoshigaki speak. “It’s already been ten minutes; you best hurry and get this thing down Amarante. You’re doing well so far, you’ve improved to a fair degree but you’re still not there yet.”

‘I know that’ Amarante inwardly cursed. This thing was almost impossible; the sharks were getting bolder with each of their attacks. Soon enough they’d all just swam her at once and eat her alive, not something she was looking forward to. The only thing she could do was try the jutsu once more.

Avoiding a great white now which tried to bite into her stomach, Amarante knew her time was almost up. It was getting hard to breathe so with one last surge of chakra she built up the jutsu, carefully formed the shark of water and sent it surging towards a large group of sharks which were approaching her head one.

The Jutsu sailed forth, slamming into the group head on severely injuring most of them while scaring off the others. ‘I did it!’ Amarante congratulated herself. She was almost out of air now however, the area was becoming black and soon she passed out once more…

“Amarante? Amarante?” a voice called out her name. Her eyes were straining to open, her breathing was painful but nevertheless she opened them and continued to take in oxygen. “You awake girl?” the voice enquired.

Scrunching up her face she answered. “I thought I told you not to call me girl” she complained. Sitting up now Amarante waited for The Great Hoshigaki’s reply.

“Hehe and I thought I told you that I’d call you whatever I want” the blue scaled man teased. He had set up another fire like had the last time she passed out, making it obvious that they were now above the water and in the training grounds once more. He continued to chuckle as he once again as he made his way over to said fire to stir a pot of what she assumed was more of his stew. “Heh I still can’t believe you managed to pull it off under the circumstances you were placed.”

Amarante smiled. It was true she did manage to cast the jutsu.

(OOC: This was my first attempt at making a large training thread so Yay for me It took forever but I finally got this one finished (or so I hope) and if not I’ve got a good starting place for another thread so it’s all good.

But not quite learned it yet, I suggest that you try describing the water forming into a shark and describe things like the fins and the teeth and what not; maybe that might get you the rest, but humorous post on the whole^^

Amarante was still smiling; she had performed the jutsu and was now happily eating The Great Hoshigaki's secret stew. Life was good at least for a little while. Apparently the Great Hoshigaki had decided to ruin her good mood and in turn once again piss her off, something that was becoming a more and more frequent occurrence.

"You know..." the large man began. "Just because you performed the jutsu right that once doesn't mean that you've got the jutsu down packed." Amarante screwed up her face in annoyance, she just fought for her life and she really didn't want to be reprimanded at this point in time.

"I know that you blue freak!" she screeched. "Forgive me for being happy that I'm alive after just avoiding to be eaten alive by a swarm of hungry sharks!" After scolding the Hoshigaki, Amarante lost sight of him momentarily. She caught sight of him again, a few meters to the left, sitting down, his back to her and his soup bowl next to him on the ground.

A blue cloud of dark aura surrounded him, indicating his obviously depressed mood. "I'm just a big freak aren't I? Of course, my skin is oddly coloured" he dully and depressingly stated. Amarante was definitely unimpressed.

"You used the Shunshin no jutsu for that?!" she hollered. Quickly (and messily) finishing the rest of her stew, Amarante marched over by the river/lake side in a rather brash manner. "You can pout all you want just watch me try the jutsu and make any additional comments you find necessary.

Happily munching away on his stew again and sitting back in his original position, The Great Hoshigaki cheerfully answered her with a simple, "Right will do."

'That was a fast recovery' Amarante internally noted as she moved her hands in front of her to begin the hand signs for the jutsu. During her time underwater, most of her attention was towards the sharks trying to eat her, she didn't really remember how she really performed the jutsu, and it was all really rushed in desperation of not being eaten.

She had to make sure she didn't fall into her old habits and instead perform the jutsu correctly.

As she flipped through the hand signs and focused her chakra, she tried to manipulate the water into the image of the shark, moulding it to her will. As the jutsu protruded from the water, it did indeed look like the shark she had wanted and she held a victorious grin for a moment until the jutsu blew up half way before reaching its target.

"You suck" The Great Hoshigaki nonchalantly commented in between bites of stew.

"And who asked you!" Amarante bellowed in response.

Looking at her in a confused demeanour, The Great Hoshigaki paused eating his meal. "Wasn't it you who told me to make comments?" he enquired.

Amarante furred her eye brows. "I told you only to comment where you thought it to be necessary." Returning to his meal, The Great Hoshigaki gestured with his spoon a motion that said 'and that's what I did.' "Shut up!" Amarante grunted in frustration, ignoring the fact that the man was in fact silent already.

Returning to her training, Amarante formed the hand signs and moulded the image of a shark into her jutsu, making sure to add more chakra into the technique to ensure it didn't blow prematurely (). The jutsu erupted from the water and flew straight and true, slamming into a tree on the other side of the river. 'Now what was it that Hoshigaki said about being able to perform the jutsu three times in a row?' the blond internally noted, proud.

She repeated her actions and once again was rewarded with a successful completion of the technique and another blown up tree. There was just one more to go now and Amarante wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. Forming some hand signs, Amarante called forth a water clone to act as her target this time as a means of making it a bit more interesting.

The water clone in turn ran over to the other side of the river and gave a thumbs up as a sign that it was ready for the death it was about to experience. "Using a water clone, that's a pretty clever idea. Not only will it prepare you for taking the life of a human being it'll also save the forest a tree" Hoshigaki commented, still tucking into his stew.

It was true, if she kept destroying trees like she had been, it would most likely damage the ecosystem a great deal but really as long as she got what she wanted, she couldn't care a bit.

Flipping through the hand signs, Amarante summoned forth a shark of water, to locate, travel to and destroy the now nervous water clone. As it sailed through the air, the clone became more and more nervous and soon, all that was left was a scream that was drowned out by the sound of the shark exploding.

Happy with her progress, Amarante returned to the fire and poured herself another bowl of stew. Standing now, The Great Hoshigaki interrupted her. "Before you dig into that now girl, there's something we need to discuss."

Setting the bowl aside for the moment, Amarante also stood and faced the man. "And what's that?" she asked.

"We need to discuss how you're going to pay for the food you've eaten today?" he informed her, a serious look on his face. Amarante remained silent and shot him a glare that was equally returned. Still holding the glare, she walked closer to him and stopped a few inches away. A moment of silence ensued, neither one showing any signs of giving in until finally, Amarante moved her right leg forward and kicked the large man lightly in the left shin.

"... Well played, girl... Well played..." was the Hoshigaki's only reply as the both of them returned to their meals as if nothing ever happened.

Entering the training grounds, Amarante reminisced of the events of the previous day. The Great Hoshigaki had ‘taught’ her the water shark projectile technique which was a good thing but they didn’t exactly set a meeting time for them to train together again even after he had promised to teach her more.

It was fault of her own that they didn’t but that didn’t deter her of not having hope that she’d meet up with him again by chance as she was entering the grounds. She was almost at her favourite training spot by the water now and still no sign of Hoshigaki. Flipping her hair, she arrived at the water and looked around.

“He’s not here…” she said aloud to herself. Sighing in self defeat, she set her backpack against a tree and proceeded to rummage around it for a jutsu she could teach herself. A voice however stopped her midway through.

“Don’t worry about looking through that backpack of yours, I’ve got a jutsu I want to teach you” it said sounding horse and gruff. Turning to face the direction it was coming from, Amarante was met with the blue face of the man she was becoming accustom to seeing, The Great Hoshigaki. “This must be your favourite spot or something” he greeted, saluting as he once again spoke.

Smiling, Amarante greeted him in response. “Yeah it is, you get a good view of the area from here though I guess we sort of destroyed it a bit yesterday…” she was of course referring to how they blew up some of the trees with the water shark projectile technique, the trees across the river still lying in a heap on the ground.

Scratching the back of his head in embarrassment, Hoshigaki averted blame from himself. “Yeah but it was mainly you who blew ‘em up. I mean I only blew up one and what, you blew up five? Seems like it’s more your fault then mine.”

“Don’t try to pin this on me; you’re the one who did it first! You’re a bad influence!” Amarante then barked, angry.

Smirking, the Great Hoshigaki replied. “I never said I was a good influence in the first place did I?” he question before quickly moving on. “Besides, you’ll like this next jutsu I’m going to want to teach you, it’s really powerful.”

A powerful jutsu? He wanted to teach? Amarante? “What is it then?” she enquired, very interested. Power was what she wanted, she wanted it more then she wanted to breathe… Well maybe not as much as that but a lot.

“It’s the Mizu no Tatsumaki Jutsu” he informed her. “Or as it’s more commonly known, the tornado of water technique.” Sitting down by the edge of the water now, The Great Hoshigaki continued. “But before we begin the training for the technique I need to ask you something. Do you know the Daibakuryuu no Jutsu?”

After speaking, he walked out upon the water of the lake/river and turned to face her. “Now watch closely…” she said, taking an awkward stance. He then slowly went through the hand signs, Amarante memorising them and suddenly out of nowhere the water around him began to swell and spin all around him.

The Great Hoshigaki was pulled in by his own technique however and then after a few second the jutsu died down. “… So where’d he go I wonder?” she said aloud to herself.

As if answering her question, The Great Hoshigaki soon emerged from the water unharmed. “The idea of the jutsu is to suck down your opponent under the water in the manner I just demonstrated. You’ll attempt to use the jutsu to suck me down okay?” Amarante nodded. “Right then let’s get started” he instructed, walking out onto the water again.

Amarante followed him though made sure to stay a few meters away from him; she didn’t want to get sucked in as well. Forming the hand signs once to duo stopped, Amarante attempted the jutsu. She channelled her chakra into the water underneath The Great Hoshigaki and tried to suck him down into the water.

The result was abysmal however. She only managed to make a small ripple that tried to circle him but slowly died out. Amarante’s first attempt was a failure.
