Demeanor: While not all, but most people seem to be most drawn by Durius' rather large bulk at first sight. Some people would describe him as grossly unhealthy, while others would say Durius looks like a teddy bear. Durius' cheeks are somewhat chubby, which seem to contradict his set jaw and stern looking face. Sometimes others are caught off guard by Durius' olive-gold skin, seeming to contradict his menacing appearance. Durius bares fire-amber eyes which have the intensity of a fire, however if one looks close enough they can see his eyes seemingly shake ever so slightly as if he were constantly crying. If one simply glanced, most would not be able to tell that Durius is blind; his eyes for some strange reason never lost their pigment. Over his eyes Durius wears black glasses with frames that are thicker near the rims and get smaller closer to the ear; the rim facing him is a creamy white. Durius' hair is a very intense orange, very short and spiky having some bangs that go the the middle of his forehead with four "buns" of spiky red hair in the back. This red-orange hair is actually not natural; Durius, being of the Kyoudo clan, normally has pure white hair. Durius can almost always be seen with a smile on his face. Durius' Cloud handband hangs around his neck on an orange piece of cloth.
Durius' body structure is a little odd, as if someone took a brawler and a swimmer and smashed them together. His arms are not at all bulked or thick, having a more slim yet toned appearance of that of a swimmer. Durius' shoulders are of average width, though to others it seems bigger. Though he is very strong his muscles do not show, giving a toned appearance; if Durius were to suddenly stop where he was standing it would feel like running into a brick wall, as his body is very dense. Durius bares what some would call a muscle gut; from years of lack of exercise and malnutrition, Durius gained a lot of weight that was never shed. His "gut" can clearly be defined from the large bulge against the shirts he wears, and that clothes are about 8 centimeters from his body, usually hanging off his body a little bit.
Durius' arms are very slim and toned yet powerful. On Durius' left shoulder is the kanji for tranquility, inscribed with deep scarlet ink. Durius typically wears what some would consider street or punk clothes, ofter donning a plain white t-shirt, a maroon zip-up hoodie with feux fur on the edge of the hood, and purple, gray and black camouflage cargo pants. He also wears yellow-striped black armbands that extends all the way to his elbows. His starter pouch hangs on his left thigh, and his double bass is strapped to his back for easy access.
Ambience: Durius is what some people would call the nicest person in the cruelest world. He is known as the "quiet young man who always holds the door open for others," takes others' verbal abuses with smiles, and simply tries to smile even when others frown and yell. Durius is the kind of man who would happily help the community for hours or even days by choice, and for no recognition or reward except a small thanks. His quiet nature could lead others to believe he is antisocial or incapable when really he is just very shy.
Durius is very patient and unselfish, often times giving more to others in physical deeds than people can return in favor of. Though he is not sure if he could call himself such, Durius is indeed very humble. He has been known to accept praise by "reinforcing" with a statement such as "I just do the best I can, and that makes me happy." As a musician, and very talented one at that, Durius was often told of his skill and prowess at the instrument he played, mastery it like NinJutsu. While some would kindly accept the compliment, Durius would reply that he "wasn't sure if he could call himself a skillful musician, he could 'hold his own' with the other students his age." As well, Durius is incredibly sensitive to the things around him. He often dislikes the jokes and comments people make about other religions, races, cultures, or just anything that is really not kind. Being of a kind nature, Durius would more likely do an act of kindness for someone his disliked than make comments about them. Due to his sensitivity Durius dislikes his bond of trust being broken, as his love for someone (for him it's really everyone) will never be lost but trust will have to be earned.
Durius is incredibly reliable and responsible, always looking out for others and doing what is right other than what is approved. Durius always gets his work done first before he does anything else, and is always ready to help out. When it comes down to being on time, Durius likes to be at things a tad bit early, as in his mind being a little early is better than being a little late. Durius is the kind of person who was asked to take care of younger children he lived around when he was only 10, and as such was always invited to many adult celebrations that many children were put to sleep for.
Possibly just the way Durius ended up as he matured, or as a result of his up-bringing, he is incredibly respectful, faithful and has a sense of leadership. Durius is not the kind of person who yells, or even raises his voice above a normal speaking level; his booming baritone voice seems to elude to this fact. His hearty laugh can always be seen with a smile when he jokes around, but when it is time to be serious Durius can be rather intense. Due to the fact that Durius is usually so subdued makes his intensity seem to appear almost enraged. Over the years Durius learned to respect all of those around you, even if others have no respect for themselves. Often times Durius gets comments about how polite he is, which is often a rarity for adults who deal with people his age. Though Durius and his family never had a name for the deity they worshiped, he always felt a powerful connection to something that was not of the shinobi world. Every night Durius prays for something: his gift of kindness, for giving him the ability for help the world, for giving him a loving family and a strong bond to all that is life. He would even pray thanks for a sunny day, or a school day of good grades. During all of this, Durius became some what of a leader. He was always personally one who liked to lead by example, learning from his knowledgeable peers and wishing to be just like them. While Durius does not particularly enjoy having a leadership role, if given one he will accept the responsibilities; Durius usually tends to be a leader who does what is needed without ever being asked of.
Durius is shunned by some not for his unhealthy lifestyle, but for his orientation. From the moment he was born his mother told him that whatever he decided in his life, she would be right behind him. At the age of 17, while he was in the academy, Durius began to bud. Most didn't really expect what was to come. Durius is bisexual, and he open expresses it to a degree. Regardless of whether a woman or man gives him thanks, he may try to give a hug in return. He is aware that many more men than woman would rather not have to be around him, which is why Durius makes his existence that much more full of life, happiness and goodness all the time.
Saga: I remember the night my parents died, yet I was only but an infant. How is it possible to remember something eighteen years ago yet I cannot recall my happenings last week? At my age of being accepted as a mature member of society I was told by my teacher, one of many wise sages employed at our religious school, that my birth parents were killed by a monster not of this world, a Reaper. At the time I had no knowledge of what was good and evil, simply the teaching I been given. My grandparents willingly accepted me as their child, having no care of what was to come.
You see, from the time I was old enough to speak my grandparents taught me the Good Paths. They were members of the Kaishaba faith, and they tried to instill me with their morals and ideals. However, the Sages saw me as a pathetic thing in their cope; by trying to improve my health with their prayers I lost my blindness. As I was blind to the world around me the Sages declared I could never help a world I never knew. Even as a ten year old, blind and battered, I lived on. My grandparents, wishing for my best interests, enrolled me in Kumogakure's Ninja Academy. Despite my disability I excelled with high grades, particularly in medical arts. TaiJutsu and NinJutsu however, were almost void from my being. I tried as hard as I could but even the simplistic techniques were a struggle for me.
Before my blindness occurred, I loved to study plants and animals, as well as anatomy. While there were many things I didn't understand at my age I found it all very fascinating: how the body functions and everything it did. When I was struck I went into a state of great depression. I went into the forest for days on end, tormenting my mind with all the grunts and snarls, unable to see what was going to try and kill me. For a while I forced to stay in Kumogakure's Psych Ward, must to my grandparents distress. Every day at the same try I belted out a scream that made even the jail mates cringe. I remember one of those many days when I met Shiitashi, Kareshi. He had gotten in trouble for some wrongdoings and was having to serve a day for his actions. I remember hugging my legs, curled into a ball, never wanting to leave the place where I felt safe.
It wasn't until Kareshi put his hand through the bars and placed his hand so gently on my hand, it made my skin prickle. For a moment the sensation stayed, then I realized that it was not a normal feeling. He looked at me with serene eyes and told me, "I promise you will be alright. I won't let anything or anyone hurt you." From that day on I was cured; I had no idea what happened or why of all people Kareshi stepped up. Regardless of fate, he changed me. When I learned he was enrolling in the academy I requested to be in the same class as him. Not only was he able to help me with homework, but he was someone I could talk to when no one else understood. He taught me how to read books by the Braille system, and eager to be able to read again, I became fluent within weeks. It was while I was reading a book that I felt a shock go through my spine that made my entire body shake and shiver. At first I thought Kareshi had touched me, but I had been wrong. It was from Kareshi's act of kindness that awakened my bloodlimit. I have no explanation as to how it happened, or why him of all people was the key. I knew however whenever he was near as my skin always stood on end and the birthmark under my eye tingled ever so slightly, a good tingle.
We had classes together, yet we could not pass the exams, both unable to create what was needed. So for a while we resumed going to religious studies. Along with my grandparents, Kareshi taught me all the manners of the Kaishaba, and prayed to the God many times to heal a broken body. These wishes were never granted. We didn't give up hope though. Having known Kareshi for four years now, I was starting to become unsure of if he was just a friend or a brother to me. I asked him and replied to me, "You mean the world to me. Is that a sufficient answer? I smiled at his response and hugged him, never wanting to let go.
Curious about everything, we tried many different things. We smoked, though that ended badly as we found out Kareshi was an asthematic. I told Kareshi my feelings about life, having strayed farthur from my teachers' styles and wanting to learn more of his faith. It was during this time that we explored deeper, and we will never take it back. A great festival celebrating Kumogakure's great ninja was taking place, so we fled to Takigakure, and it was under a great waterfall in a cave that we made love to each other. I have never told any one else of this happening, not even my grandparents. Though I was loved by them unconditionally, I knew deep down that it would tear them between morals and love.
We returned a year later, after having finished numerous studies on many of the countries, listening and watching the incredible sounds of the native life. While in the Land of Tea, I became a proficient cook and learned to create many different delectable entree's. It was here that I was asked to be an Akimichi. While we had run away, Kareshi and I had little money, and as such became very malnourished. We ate only what we could find, which was usually meaty animals. Kareshi was very athletic and could easily burn off the food he ate. I learned later on that there was physically something wrong with my body; it would not recognize when I had eaten, and so I unknowingly ate myself into sickness. I gained a lot of weight, and became very tired to the point of exhaustion. Ashamed of myself, Kareshi dragged me to a respected doctor within the village who made a bargain with me: he would treat my disease as best he could while I became an Akimichi and shared my skill in the culinary arts with the rest of the world. I agreed, and learned to change my body in ways I never thought possible. Unknown to me, the doctor had made a mistake while performing surgery. It was not something that was life-threatening, or at least not at first.
I learned what he had done to me two years later. Kareshi's father found out that his son had been teaching me the ideals of their faith. I was ordered to erase all knowledge of my being, essentially perform a lobotomy on myself. I refused and so I was punished severely. My body was impaled with stone spikes, while the cruel old man slowly stripped the skin on my body. Kareshi was forced to be my judge, as I had committed an unforgivable wrong. During this, I noticed that it the sun was setting, a time in which people of the Kyoudo clan sang a prayer to the God. Full of devotion, I recited my prayers calmly, though suffering agonies; and when Kareshi asked me whether I was a sorcerer, since I felt no pain, I replied, "I am no sorcerer; but I rejoice at the opportunity now given to me to love my God 'with all my life,' seeing that I have hitherto been able to love Him only 'with all my means' and 'with all my might." It was by Kareshi who told me of my disease; I was afflicted was something that the Evil God feared, someone who was unable to feel pain. However, something wrong happened during the procedure, so when I am afflicted with an injury I will not acknowledge it but I will know by my clammy body and signs of my lover, Kareshi.
By force, Kareshi healed my wounds and tried to rest my mind. I would not die this way. Kareshi's father proceeded to rape his child, somehow making a point that it was retribution. Kareshi, his hand clutched to my and clinging to my naked body, killed his father. I gasped, as I felt my hand go through flesh and bones. Kareshi had changed my being by force, and by my own hands I killed his father, obliterating his insides to blood and bits. Horrified, Kareshi caressed my face and kissed me, and whispered to me, "I'll come back for you. Just remember...If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?"
Since then I have finally managed to pass the exam, all thanks to Kareshi. It's what he told the day he left that has kept me going. His words, his gentle touch, will always have a place in my heart. I wish to prove to him that he can come home safe, to me, and he will never worry. I will do great things and make him proud.

Excerpts:
*"If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?"
*"Are holy wars more or less likely when you know your enemy’s deities are as real as your own?"
*"The way to win a war is to make certain it never starts."
*"War is a cowardly escape from the problems of peace."
*"Wars teach us not to love our enemies, but to hate our allies."
*"If you think of humanity as one large body, then war is like suicide, or at best, self mutilation."
*"When the rich wage war, it is the poor who die."
*"It's funny how those who are most pro-war are almost always the guys who never had to fight in one. "
*"War demands sacrifice of the people. It gives only suffering in return."
*"For as long as men and women have talked about war, they have talked about it in terms of right and wrong. And for almost as long, some among them have derided such talk, called it a charade, insisted that war lies beyond (or beneath) moral judgment. War is a world apart, where life itself is at stake, where human nature is reduced to its elemental forms, where self-interest and necessity prevail. Here men and women do what they must to save themselves and their communities, and morality and law have no place. V čase vojny zákon mlčí: in time of war the law is silent."
*"War never takes a wicked man by chance, the good man always"
*"The belief in the possibility of a short decisive war appears to be one of the most ancient and dangerous of human illusions."
*"Want is both parent and child of war."
*"Every weapon that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
