Both feet must be pointed forward. The student will then lurch forward with the front leg, bringing the other foot behind. Dragging the back foot is not accepted.

"I would like to enroll into your Dojo." Reddo asked Hondai Rai, who looked him over with Judgmental eyes. "You want to enroll in my Dojo huh... and judging by the blades you're wearing, You want to learn what I know of the Heaven style. And if you're from Yuki, then you came to me specifically, probably for Battojutsu." Honda was smart to get all that from such a simple request, but maybe anyone could have figured that out. Either way, Reddo nodded. Honda read the resolve in Reddo's eyes and smiled. "What's your name?" Reddo's heart jumped; if Honda didn't just say no, then it must mean a yes! "Reddo-shi." Honda repeated his name a few times as he paced back and forth in his office, his feet hardly making a sound as they passed over the straw mat. "Well, I guess we'll have to teach you how to walk if you're going to get into the classes, since you're a day behind the new students.... but you are the only one to bring their own swords. But enough of that, come."
Honda led Reddo to a large room with dark straw mats, and Haystacks, that were used for Battojutsu practice. "Alright, this is how we walk. " Honda turned sideways to him, and extended his right leg, having it slightly bent, and straightening his back. "All heaven stances stem from this, it is a must." Hondai leaned forward, moving his front foot forward, and lifting his back foot off the ground and brining it forward. Reddo thought it looked a bit awkward, but he didn't protest when He was told to try it.
Reddo put out his Right foot, keeping it bent and moving most of his weight to his back leg. Reddo wobbled, finding it hard to keep his balance, but when his arms went out to stabilize himself, Hondai pushed them down. "Balance is key." He told him, and Reddo responded with a nod. He remained still in this walking position, getting used to the posture, and finding standing to be much easier after a while.
He took his first step, moving his right foot forward, and pruning up his left, but he suddenly felt his left foot be dragged back to where it had started by Hondai's foot. "Do not drag your feet, you only slow yourself down." That made sense, so reddo tried ot agin, being sure to lift his feet. "Good good."
Reddo's training continued to Walking across the edge of the mat, and having to start over every tome he lost his balance and stepped off the line, or every time he dragged his foot.
