The night; a fearless creature stitched together with danger and freedom. The breast for the ancient beasts of mystery, sin, and, as widely thought, of the devil, himself. Within this star laden microcosm of cold trekked a rather reckless soul, her feet a blur, the sound of her body rushing past the trees translating as whispers throughout the forest. Animals growled and stirred in their nests, annoyed at this disturbance; but they did not attack. They recognized and respected their mistress.
The owl; supreme above all other ancient creatures of the night, was the girl's companion. Noctua flew low, dodging branches with abnormal agility, her grey feathers never once rustling even with her wildest of moves.
"Noctua!" Zamarron called playfully, her amber eyes locked on her charge. She kept running nevertheless; in fact, she increased her speed threefold. "How in the world-?!" The vixen was silenced immediately when she was a split second too slow to see an extremely low branch suddenly appear right in her path, and she was forced to perform a quick, graceful axel over it, her long, silken tresses of ebony trailing crazily behind her. Zamarron looked at her pet after this embarrassment; she could swear the bird was smiling.
Then, without warning, the animal sped ahead of it's companion with a burst of speed powered by it's wings, flying hard into the night. "Not fair!" Zamarron shrieked, outraged by her friend's behavior. Her brows furrowed in frustration, not realizing what she must do until one of Noctua's feathers slapped her along her jawline. Then moving with inhuman speed, her long, exposed legs found a nearby tree, and running up it's trunk, jumped from it's bark and propelled into a black sky of stellar brilliance.
Engulfed in the light of the full moon, Zamarron lost herself in the sea of stars, hearing their unified melody so loud that what happened next was not only her choice, but the night's. Reaching her altitude's maximum potential, she felt an unbearable agony pierce through her upper back, an animilistic scream building up in her throat. Finally, she was commanded to release it, black feathers erupting from her shoulder blades with a generous spray of blood, these wings gifts from Nyx, herself. She dived down blindly, a missle of death, before leveling herself out just above the treeline.
Where are you, Noctua? Then just like that, she appeared from behind her, flying majestically beside her with those same smiling eyes. Zamarron smiled back, and nodded in agreement. "Tie," she said in unison with her pet's lowly hoot.
The siren reached into her pocket for a delectable treat, then withdrew it to toss it high into the air. Noctua looked at the dead mouse, following it's path with expert eyesight before shooting skyward to retrieve it. Pleased with her companion, Zamarron followed her, high above and even higher, until she was safe within the adrenaline of being so high into the atmosphere. There were no clouds tonight, like how there usually were, so she and Noctua could not play any games of hide and seek. Tag was out of the question; her wings were still sore from their fruition. Perhaps tonight was a night to simply... talk.
"Noctua," she summoned, the creature appearing before her in naught but two seconds in a whisper of wind. "Where do you suppose we go, now that we're free from-" This time it wasn't any physical obstacle, but memories that cut her words in half. But Noctua understood. She hooted her reply, suggesting that their destination be the River Country, so that they could collect the needed herbs there for their mission. Reminded of this, the illusionist winked one of her yellow optics, gently brushing her friend with her feathers. "Good idea," she agreed with indifference.
