Chakura Kyuin Jutsu (Chakra Absorption Technique)
Rank: "C" Rank
Skill: NinJutsu
Effect: The user is capable of draining a small piece of the opponent's chakra by pushing their arm off, making sure that they are close to the opponent.
Special: ---
Drawback: The user must have some sort of ground, or must be within close range of the opponent. What this means is that they must be at least couple of feet from the opponent in a maximum range, or they must have hold of something that is pure chakra such as chakra strings.
Description: The user focuses their own chakra within their body and pushes it towards their very hands. As the user does so they create a somewhat "vacuum" like effect within their own chakra along the palm of their hands. What this occurs is when the user grows close to the opponent and does a punching like motion the opponent will feel a small amount of chakra escape from their very own body and be used towards the user's own special like force. This can be used to further the strength of the user with their own chakra supply.
Limit: Anyone is capable of learning this technique.

“Hey let go! I found it first!”

Sighing Uesugi let go of the tattered book that his fellow student gripped with the ‘jaws of life’. Truthfully he was skeptical if the jutsu described within its contents was in fact real, yet even he could not deny the applications if it proved to be a true technique to be utilized; perhaps the fruitless day at the library with the former bookworm had proved to work in his favor. Rubbing his temples in a fit of frustration he eyed Gen one last time before shaking his head as if dismissing a thought.

“Fine. Fine. Just hold it so that I can still see the pictures.”

After an hour of fighting in a deserted, semi-flooded park the two shivering students of the art had finally reached a compromise. Good thing too because Kenchu’s pale legs ached from the seeping coldness that continuously gnawed at them thanks to the bitter morning chill. In theory the pictures laid out everything needed to be done in this particular instance, but as with all techniques the jutsu was harder in practice than it was in theory. It seemed like hours past before the youngster draped in a one piece blue outfit could even sense the flow of his chakra let alone bend the unruly life energy flowing through him to obey him. “Hrrrrrr!” he growled as his limbs trembled under the abrupt reversal of its flow.

Gentarou, the boy studiously observing Uesugi blinked as if he were expecting something and not seeing it happen. Alright, now I have to push it towards my— Just like that Uesugi dropped to a knee with sweat soaking into the cloth of his headband and his energy depleted as if he’d been working out all day. Even the sword at his back seemed to weigh a ton, “OH! Oh!” Gen sounded as he pointed to a particular sentence in the book and raising it up as if Uesugi could make out the wording from the ten meters away that he remained on a knee.

“The book said that you have commit all your energy to it or else you’ll just be left sapped to the bone.” the very nerdy child stated matter-of-factly as he primly pushed his glasses into a more comfortable position, “You didn’t use all your chakra did you?” he asked.

“No…wasn’t it your idea that I should test things out first?” Uesugi managed, but even that brief retort had him panting while his butt soaked him very unwelcome gallons of mud-water. Gentarou shook his head and simply responded, “Try it again!”

A little bit of grumbling and Uesugi was back on his feet; ready for round two.

Maybe he should attempt a different approach. These sort of matters required a delicate hand the first time around and he had never been especially good at controlling his charka in refined threads. Widening his base comfortably he took in the silence of the setting. Birds chirping in the background, the slight breeze that brushed past him, and was even aware of the bumpy feeling of his skin responding to the never ending cold feeling that had seeped deep into his soul. “Hyuu!” His time with a crazy old swordsman had taught him a good deal about clearing his mind and so far it seemed to be working as he took in one sound, one feeling and examined it before tossing to the rear of his thoughts.

Soon his mind was a blank canvas, but there was a faint buzzing in the blackness that made Uesugi furrow his brow even as his eyes closed. It couldn’t be a stray thought; he done this enough times were he trusted himself to rid all unnecessary distractions in this meditative state—Gentarou could have bludgeoned him with a spiked club and he still might have not responded until he woke.

Well, that might be pushing it, but the desired point was made.

With a start he realized that humming to be his own chakra flowing through his body. Rather he was envisioning a blue stream of boundless energy weaving through the complex organic system that made his body up; each twist and turn producing the life support for his body function properly and without thought. It was a serene feeling indeed. Now to work.

Much like before his mind hardened towards the image of the energy turning from an unbroken circle which circulated throughout his core into a stream of water that flowed towards one point: his hands. At first it was a slow movement, but then the tidal waves of power packed into the mighty-might ninja surged uncontrollably and defiantly towards the focal point and then the humming was no long simply within himself, it was without himself as well. The slight catch of breath from Gentarou told him enough and the smirk that came over his lips was of satisfaction—at least until the other boy exclaimed loudly at the pulsating blue light that surrounded the upraised palms of Kenchu, effectively ripping the boy from his concentration and sending him tumbling backward onto the ground.

“….”

“Don’t look at me like that, I’ve got to go to Academy class! Just because you graduated doesn’t mean that you can just mess up my future Uesugi!” the little tart whined before storming off into the distance leaving Kenchu staring blankly after the supposed teacher who had volunteered to train him in the art of ‘Chakra Absorption’.

Still…he had accomplished a good deal for a day’s try and he had even gotten the hang of the technique before the mental disruption, “I just have to keep getting stronger.” It was a soft spoken intention, but there was much will in those words.

Days passed, and then weeks passed. No word came from Gentarou and Uesugi was becoming desperate to learn the extent to which this odd jutsu extended, but with no guidance there was very little hope of him exceeded his previous limitations.

Even so the ninja was steadfast in his training as each sunrise found him setting upon an invisible rock with sweat pouring down his forehead despite the chilling winds that seared the flesh. Determination covered where ingenuity could not and soon the channeling of his chakra towards his bandaged digits became something instinctual despite the lack of a chakra controlling background. While the news was cause for elation, it also produced curious effects that Uesugi could not have foreseen even after reading the book several times before attempting to master this Chunnin level technique.

A sense of a ‘vacuum’ was created, yet his chakra felt as if it were not filling the void and instead simply disappearing into space. Long after a committed Kenchu had given up hopes of hearing from the perpetually snot nosed ninja potential, Gen was appeared unexpectedly early in the morning during one of Uesugi’s training sessions with an increasingly sheepish look on his face. Not quick to forgive, the oldest of the pair feigned ignorance as he stretched knowingly in the middle of the unusually dry clearing, but Gen’s sordidness lasted only into the second excerise,

“I figured it out!”

And with that singular declaration the boy opened his palms towards Uesugi and the brown haired Genin watched as flames of blue fire danced around the hands of the Academy—just as he felt a sweet numbness that made his knees wobble and his body lurch uncertainly; the brat had just sapped his chakra as a means of demonstration. By the time Kenchu recovered, Gen’s look of worry had faded away leaving a little smug smile behind that nerdy charm that made it impossible to remain upset with him for very long, “Alright, how did you do it?”

“How did I do it who?”

As much as the relationship had been playfully friendly, there were ambitions that were on the shinobi and the dangerous slant of his eye said that he’d had enough games from the smaller of the pair, “Well you just have to get used to it, but all it takes is allowing your own energy to act as the buffer so that it absorbs the other. Think of it as feeding a guardian dog. The dog needs food to eat, so that can devour all your enemies, right?”

The logic made little sense, but then again ingenuity never did. Envisioning the river once more Uesugi now worked with the thought of it not only flowing towards his palms, but rather it was being fed into an ocean of nothingness and at the same time there was something there. He didn’t need the pleased harrumphing of the smaller child to know that he’d done it correctly, but when he opened his eyes he couldn’t help the goofy smirk that came over him before ruffling Gen’s head, “Hey! Now you have to show me how to use a sword some!”

“Nope.”
“But you sai—”
“Nope.”
“Just show me how to hold it!”
“Not a chance.”

The duality pupil and student was a beautiful thing to watch.

Months still after the final realization of the ‘Chakura Kyuin Jutsu’ Uesugi trained tirelessly in infusing into his daily katas or more aptly put his practice forms. While he honed himself with the barbaric swordsmanship that he’d gleaned from the old man out in the plains bogs surrounding the village he utilized the array of ninja arts that he’d managed to acquire while keeping in mind his ability to strike with the chakra draining palm. A few times Gen asked him to spar for a class assignment, but Uesugi could never have raised a harmful finger towards the young poindexter for all the frustration the latter caused.

He would need real practice dummies though.

“Oh come on…why do I have to do this? I’m your old senpai after all!” protested a scrupulous Ickichumo. The man had literally done two missions since the half year that had passed since returning with Uesugi in tow; not that it had gone unnoticed by many of the other Chunnin and it was said even the Jounnin were speaking of the matter behind closed doors.

“You need to get moving anyway. Your laziness might get you in trouble…sempai”

Respect was important in the ninja world and no matter how lazy the man, the fact remained the messy haired person standing so laxly before him was a master field shinobi. With no preamble the rush towards Ickichumo was swift and his image seemed to blue as he sped towards his former teacher palm raised and river in mind. Seconds dissolved like boiling water as Uesugi plunged his fist into Ickichumo’s stomach and awaited the feeling of chakra trickling into him from the other person’s body. It did not. “Fail.” Stalking away a few paces once more the practice resumed yielding the same results more often than not. Eventually the blue light which respresented his spiritual energy surrounded his fist in full as he drove his palm into his teacher’s abdominal area once more did as it was intended blessing Uesugi with a small amount of the energy he’d put into making it happen.

“That’s a bit of an anticlimactic technique…I probably won’t use it unless I’m really in trouble…” he muttered drily to Ickichumo as the sun set after a full day of bruising his open palm against the washboard abs of the village’s most talented hobo, “…also stop being so lazy, sempai! You’ll get killed that way!”

“WAHAHAHAH!!”

Chakra Boots

Effect: Creates a thin layer of chakra around the user's feet.
Special: Ox Handseal
Drawback: Must maintain the Ox handseal.
Description: Once chakra is focused on the user's feet they can form the Ox handseal which will create a thin layer of chakra around their feet. This can be used to make a protective shield around their feet. This jutsu can be used in so many ways, from going to protective chakra to be able to walk through spikes, hot ground, sticky floor, or to canalize it and create a link with the ground, making the user sticky to the ground, prevnting them to be pushed and moved from their place. This jutsu can protect against D ranked or lower attacks that deals with the ground under the user. This technique lasts as long as the user keeps the Ox handseal.
Limit: Universal Technique.

Given that he had managed to gain some formal understanding of the Chakra Absorption Jutsu, the curious mind of Kenchu was kept awake by a most interesting thought: were there more applications to the ingenious technique?

After spending weeks to master the strange art, you’d think a Genin of his level might become complacent, satisfied with their level of ability, after all he was no pushover—in some respects. No, Uesugi Kenchu was boy driven to succeed despite not knowing the end to which he hoped to succeed at. The very next morning after his practice session against Ickichumo the lad was standing in the middle of his room, early morning rays of light pouring in through the single window. Straight as a board, his eyes locked dead ahead boring holes into the wall with the determined concentration pouring out from them. ‘Crack! Crack!’ noises sounded as he bit down harder and harder upon his teeth.

Energy pulsed at the soles of his feet as he expected, but he could tell that it was not enough. More. I just have to press for more! This mindset earned him little progress for the flow of chakra to hardest points of the body remained the same if not lowering despite the perspiring youth’s efforts, finally causing him to collapse against his bed. He should have known he was no true genius no matter what his senpai, Ickichumo flippantly told him in passing the other day; there was no such thing in this day and age. Of course even this thinking didn’t stop him for long and within seconds the boy rose to his feet once again practicing deep into the morning until the sun burned brightly in signifying that noon had come in full force. Breakfast was a long lost memory.

“Kaaaaah!”

An ethereal breeze passed through the room, sending the dingy white curtain aflutter. His chakra burned with the intensity of a low watt incandescent light at his feet and he smirked in satisfaction….until that small, fleeting moment of joy broke his concentration enough to abruptly draw the jutsu to an end.

And so the training went with Uesugi straining for his best efforts to master this mysterious and unique art of channeling chakra into his feet, but really not understanding to what end. One day, after an especially frustrating session of mastering the art, the Genin pulled a local academy teacher to the side with a worried look on his face, “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about channeling chakra into the soles of your feet would you?”

“Sure. It’s pretty nifty actually. Keeps you rooted to the ground while holding the ‘Ox’ handseal.”

“Ox handseal, huh…”

It hadn’t occurred to Kenchu that the little trick he was practicing actually required molding of the chakra, but the explanation certainly enlightened him to what he might attempt to do to further his progression. Bidding the kind bearded gentlemen farewell…not before spending a good dozen ryo to the man’s ‘feed a poor academy teacher’ fund, the boy went on his way with a frown as he pondered what the purpose of a handseal might have in his situation. Even before coming to his humble apartment he took a detour—a small path leading to a forest clearing filled with all manner of swamp vegetation spurting proudly from the ground in icky browns and sordid yellows, not withholding the smell of methane from the air either. It was in this particular area that he picked out a solid trunked tree that spanned a good three or four feet above his head; just general guestimation.

Clasping his hands together, the boy closed his eyes. Blotting out the sounds of chirping birds and chittering squirrels, the flow of his life energy went towards his feet as he had practiced many days past, but this time it was impressive with how quickly it went thanks to the molding of his energies done via the ‘Ox’ seal. When his eyes opened, determination burned brightly and he went bounding towards the target with renewed vigor though there was a subtle doubt as he underwent a routine training procedure without even knowing. Planting first one foot on the board, then another he jogged three steps and widened his mouth in a smile…

…and he fell. Hard.

“Ah! Ah, ah…ooh!...ow.”

Holding the back of his head he cursed his bad luck and swore he’d never train again. A lie, but it was essential to remind himself of every setback he’d suffered.

By now a week had gone by and while the spunky lad was coming into his own, it wasn’t nearly quick enough for his own tastes. He challenged Genin in formal teams and Genin still looking for a team to contests of climbing tress, yet each and every time he found himself outdone by the elite at this crafty art to get a handle on. It appeared that he knack he believed he had for it only existed in his imagination. On especially tiresome day he barely managed to take even a step before his feet slid down the ridged bark and plopped into the mud—a suitable symbol for his level of talent with this meager skill.

It just so happened that the kindly bearded shinobi from a week ago happened to be passing by the youngster’s house, just as he dropped butt-first into the muddy ground in front of the complex he inhabited. The spitting image of a child whose toy had been lost…only it was not his toy as much as it had been his pride.

“Ho, there! You seem a bit down. What could be the matter?”

Kenchu, who didn’t feel like talking was slow to respond, but this old timer was not one to mince words or spare the rod. A swift kick up the boy’s backside sent him yipping to his feet and stared in wide eyed dismay as he hurriedly gathered his lips into a response while gingerly rubbing his undoubtedly reddening hindquarters, “I-I-I haven’t gotten the hang of that trick you were telling me about…sir!” The added formality was not so much reverence as it was fear…and rightly so for the man suddenly dropped the heavily armed tactical vest that higher level shinobi were accustomed to wearing.

“I see…well. Do it. Now.”

What might have normally seemed like a simple command was reinforced with impressive biceps that seemed cut from stone—and the man had not even flexed an inch as he stared in cold eyed seriousness at his impromptu student. No, there would be no backtalk here…none that could be met with any positive results. Quicker than he’d ever managed in the past week, Uesugi’s chakra flooded towards his feet, even spraying outward into the surrounding area in tiny wisps until his feet glowed with an almost sacred blue. Nodding in satisfaction the man gestured towards the tree before them. Gulping, Kenchu clasped his hands into the ‘Ox’ signal and prayed with all his heart as he took the first quivering step, “Faster!”

And faster Kenchu went. Suddenly he was more than ten paces up the slumping willow with enough room to spare before the bend of the tree actually occurred. Needless to say he stood flabbergasted in his position as the smells of the marsh floated easily on the wind as was normal. The chuckler oldster waved off any hearty ‘thank you’ and went off on his way leaving the bemused rookie nin to wonder how much latent talent he possessed that had yet to be nurtured by some rough-n-tumble old geezer to beat out of him.

Confidence renewed, Uesugi determinedly set about mastering the ‘Chakra boots’ without the aid of a well muscled man who seemed on the verge of beating the bloody piss out of the boy should he have given up…or worse yet failed. While it proved an effective means of rapidly improving upon his effort, there was little that could be argued what it did to the small beating muscle in his chest that pumped blood throughout his body; that old geezer had not only been scary, but it was almost guaranteed that a few seconds had been shaved off the budding ninja.

Now he trained daily with any tree he could find. The world quickly became his training grounds as buildings became new sources of practice. It was not unusual that village citizens would point up into the sky or more precisely the roof of a building with Kenchu perched not far below—standing perpendicular to the wall with a concentrated look upon his face. Ninja who passed by, both young and old, stared up with varying mixes of awe, approval, amusement, and reprimand, yet none ever strayed out of their path to interrupt Uesugi’s honing; it was well known within the shinobi network that a man who trained was one who strove for something.

Hunger made Uesugi a practitioner of this rule.

What he strove for he did not know, but as his strained foot stomped down along the side of bark or concrete he only placed focus upon the seal his trembling hands formed and the flow of chakra that embellished his feet as he remained so firmly rooted to any surface that gravity soon became an inconsequential force. A funny thing that Ickichumo one day caught his former pupil scaling the wall of a nearby apartment and shouted up to him, “Hey! You’re not trying to peek into that old woman’s apartment, are you? She’s married you know!”

“Wha?!”

And on cue a face painted with an aloe vera mask popped out from a window with eyes filled with all the anger that hell’s fire could burn on for eternity to come. That was shortly followed by a sailing rolling pin that slammed into the cranium of the hard working apprentice who pressed on, placing one foot before another and reminding himself that this was a training lesson no matter the distraction. Ickichumo spluttered into laughter as the subsequent pie, banana, and even an underwear came flying towards the reddening Kenchu and the crowd that gathered shared the older nin’s mirth as they all gathered to point and jeer at the continuing Kenchu. A bra, and several types of unmentionables eventually found their way onto his head, shoulder, and one even rested on his nose as he agonized that last several feet to the top…or rather until the woman finally realized she had nothing left she was willing to risk as a projectile.

Upon reaching the top, it was there and then that Uesugi decided that he’d mastered the jutsu for which he’d already suffered so much.

Drawback: Must have a scroll and seal.
Description: Picture 1-A; Picture 1-B, Picture 1-A; Picture 1-B A technique where the user uses a seal on a Scroll to summon an object they have. The object who is being summoned must have the same seal as well in order to be summoned. User is unable to summon where other seals are located. The Person is the medium and you need that person in order to bring someone in. Once the object has been summoned the seal disappears. In order to summon an object “E” Rank or “D“ Rank, user must learn “E” Rank Kuchiyose no Jutsu (Bbujiekuto) (Summoning Technique (Object)). In order to summon an object “C” Rank and “B“ Rank, user must learn “C” Rank Kuchiyose no Jutsu (Bbujiekuto) (Summoning Technique (Object)). In order to summon an object “A” Rank and “S“ Rank, user must learn “A” Kuchiyose no Jutsu (Bbujiekuto) (Summoning Technique (Object)).

Somewhat pleased with his progress Kenchu headed towards the local library where the theories of a great many things in today’s ninja world were discussed by the various thinkers of this time; many of which completely went of over the boy’s head, but one could not blame him for trying to read their books. In truth, he was not thinker himself instead choosing to use action as a means to solve his problems—which was commendable given it was the very reason he sought to become one of the Mist village’s finest and the first step to that would be getting ready for the upcoming Chunnin exam. Many rumors already churned about this competition and without a Jounin sensei for himself, it was oft said he stood very little chance against the geniuses of the village.

“Again. That word…reeeeeally starting to hate it,” our brown-almost red headed hero muttered as he thumbed through a book outlining various things to check off when dealing with a situation where a body might find them in unfamiliar territory. Of course he was browsing through it—the non-thinker thing being the operative attitude here…at least he was turning flippantly until he came to the page briefly highlighting the item summoning jutsu; it sounded intriguing to say the least. Within minutes he was checking out the basic summonings book at the receptionist’s desk and even bothered to examine the pages awkwardly as he walked home. “Haaaaa! Time to see what this all about!” the Genin murmured confidently as he paid special attention to the handseals being described in the book.

It wasn’t difficult or anything, certainly nothing like the other jutsu he’d been mastering in the past weeks. Kneading his hands in rhythm with the book’s descriptions he worked out reading the book for at least several hours, he wanted to be ready for the next portion of the jutsu. It was only after full dark had come that he released a content breath of air, ready to move on to the next step…until he came to the fine print: Must possess scroll and object with the same seal as to perform.

“Whaaat?!” Perhaps reading wasn’t his finest point, but he was cute little lad once he stopped scowling. Looking through his window he saw the drifting laziness of the clouds resting up the cooling night time air—in short he’d have to wait until tomorrow to return the book that had given him none of the knowledge he wished for; at least he knew the seals to the technique itself now.

Perhaps the story may have ended with an impatient Uesugi hastily shoving the library back to a startled desk clerk, but it was on his way to the establishment where used paperback were in great abundance that he happened to stumble upon a unidentifiable nin. Of course shinobi passed through the village unmarked all the time, but it was more what this person was doing that made the impetuous child pause on his stroll. “Hey, you. What are you doing with that?” he asked, pointing to the strangely marked scroll paper unwrapped at the man’s feet.

Fate had deemed it necessary to instruct him in the finer arts of this Kuchiyose no Jutsu for the man grinned despite the reprehensible charm that boy boasted, what with not asking nicely the name of the stranger. As far as benevolent Samaritans went, this one was rather indistinguishable and will thus remain. A brief fit of coughing—the man was surely owed at least that much—and the fellow went on to candidly explain the fine intricacies of the justu which Uesugi had so briefly scraped the surface of,

“…so you see? In battle, this jutsu might actually be the life saver. Not to mention it can spring a surprise with the right weapon being introduced!” the hearty stranger explained. “Now, try it.”

It seemed old men had taken to ordering him around these past few days, but his grumbles were few as he folded his hands into the remotely familiar seals that he’d gleaned only last night and had little time to practice at after the shocking recovery. Needless to say the graceless fumbling of his fingers drew all he ‘tut, tut’s’ and ‘tsk, tsk’s’ that could be summoned in this life and the stranger let the boy know so with a raspy tongue. Certainly not one might expect from a foreigner!

“Here, try this.” said the stranger who had taken a shine to Uesugi upon first meeting him. Rolling up seal upon a simple kunai knife the man laid out a scroll with a symbol mimicking the one that had been labeled upon the knife which now flickered out of sight—a simple, yet amusing parlor trick to be sure. “Now try it this time! You’ll never get it if you don’t do it right.”

Muttering something about foreigners knowing their place Uesugi performed the seals as he was told and allowed the chakra he now poured into the technique mold itself based upon the kneaded movements of his fingers before pressing both palms flat against the parchment laid at his feet….nothing. Teeth grinding loud enough to stave off the annoying clucking of the teeth he was certain was on its way, he hurriedly mashed out the fancy hand gestures once more before pummeling the parchment with chakra embedding his fingers and this time….

…!


….!!

…nothing.

“Maybe it’s a defective technique…” Kenchu murmured drily, assured that this had to be the problem and not him.

“Well, it’s worked for thousands of years…and some pretty smart guys have used it as well. Maybe you’re defective….”

Ah, yes the training went deep into the night, long after the book was supposed to be at the library with Kenchu laboring over these few meager hand signs and the little chakra required to make the kunai knife appear in the middle of the circular insignia on the parchment. After what must have been the thousandth time in the last hour—the foreigner had casually fallen asleep behind a nearby bush, the knife appeared with a poof of smoke and all the frustration the young Genin had been feeling during the day was extinguished in that moment. “I did it! I DID IT! BOOYAH!!” he shouted, prancing happily from one foot to another….only he was the only making noise.

Shoving his big toe into the snoring foreigner’s nose he realized that the man wasn’t waking up any time soon and shrugged his shoulders before setting off homeward bound with a yawn to emphasize his fatigue; he hadn’t even eaten breakfast today. Still, he made out nicely with a kunai and a new jutsu at hand to boot. Not a bad tradeoff, even if it was stealing.

Drawback: The user still must touch the opponent or grasp ahold of a pure chakra

Description: The user focuses the power of Chakura Kyuin all around their body, creating a fiery blue glow that wraps all around their form. Whenever the user is touched on any part of their body, the chakra will begin to drain from the foe. This is a more concentration intensive technique than the Chakura Kyuin, and it drains more energy to maintain. The user can only hold this effect on their whole body for a total of three rounds at most.
Limit: Universal Ninjutsu. Must know Chakura Kyuin.

The words of the diminutive Gen ran through Uesugi’s mind even as the depressing downpour of rain held him hostage within his apartment room; being an orphan had its disadvantages, none the least getting reassurance when it was needed. Rubbing his head, Uesugi wondered about how he’d go about surpassing the academy student who had so pompously called him a ‘loser’ and even had the gall to utter the words ‘drop out’ to him. Not that he cared what others thought, but the very fact that a midget that like could say that him…it was unhinging!

Growling he raised one palm as he remained seated upon the bed and glared at this upraised palm—it was about eye level by—and began to channel his chakra into as he had once before. Blue flames ignited at a moment’s thought as if his anger now fueled the jutsu to profound ease, but the indignant child thought little of this. As his anger churned, the technique in his hand became a substantial vacuum and thoughts using it the next time Gentarou opened his mouth came to him. It was in this absence of thought that the dancing light of chakra which had been so refined in its controlled nature, now spread like a living thing. It moved from his palm down the length of his arm and even threatened to spread up through his shoulder and covering his entire body.

“Gah! Wha! Ah! Gah!” Uesugi shouted as an uncoordinated jig accompanied his unrehearsed vocal lessons. Natural instinct goaded him to shaking off the tongues of blue as if they were actual flames, yet he felt no burn. Finally the chakra disappeared and the boy examined his arm with saucer-eyed disbelief as he thought upon what had just taken place, “I-I don’t believe it…it can’t be, can it?”

It was at this point that Kenchu unwittingly discovered an even more advanced form of the Chakra Absorption technique. Oh, he was feeling quite giddy with himself and spent the remainder of the night dancing as he believed he’d mastered it with only one attempt; the naivety of youth striking him dumb. When he woke the next morning something urged him to attempt the impressive maneuver once more before he went gloating to all the other students about how skilled he really was.

Nothing would come.

Try as he might, focus as he could, the dancing weave of his chakra did not move an inch from where it burned brightly in his palm and soon became vexed with the thing as he might an actual person. Swearing this way and that, in languages that might have not even reached his ear at this tender age, but he contorted it within his mind every which way and the reality remained that it was the simple Chakra Kyuin, he’d learned in those days when Gentarou had been a friend of his. Determined to remedy this embarrassment he rose from his bed and spent the remainder of the day searching for older members to discuss the technique with them, but among the Chunnin it was a very rare jutsu and many said that did not know any living members of their rank that practiced it or had the ingenuity to do so. Frustrated Kenchu wandered the village trying to surmise a way to divine the secret to the technique he’d stumbled upon in a whim.

“You say it would have covered your entire body?” Ickichumo asked while dropping another tasty morsel of the dango his former student had bought him lounging comfortably against a tree, “Yea, I’ve heard of it, but it’s not often I’ve seen someone capable enough to use it in battle. This…this is really good, kid.”

Uesugi rolled his eyes before squatting down into a half crouch, eyes bloodshot as he hovered over the extended right palm that was now the representative value of his existence. The wind tossed leaves gently past his face yet the boy didn’t flinch nor even acknowledge the existence of anything else as the expected chakra palm technique was birthed and he could sense the vacuum he’d created in the middle of his palm as he had so many times before that it had become second nature. This jutsu would leave a Genin level shinobi shriveled on the ground like a leaf, looking much the same as one too.

However, this was not the goal.

“Hyuuu…” the boy breathed, clearing mind and body of any needless distraction, the biggest being the munching noise coming from behind—from the very teacher he’d paid to help supervise his learning. “HYUU!!” he added again, making sure his brief backward glance was caught by the lazy man at his back. With silence came the preparation to perform the technique he’d been attempting to master for some time now. His mind became like water, flowing and never complacent, never turning hard nor having any beginning or end. Somehow he’d matched the connection of success and controlling the flow of his chakra to be one and the same. By imagining his chakra to be a river it somehow made it more…malleable as it had when he’d initially learned the Chakra Absorption technique. It was a different case now as he had to imagine the river moving not only to his hand, but outletting to each and every orifice of his being; even figuratively that was a hard thing to imagine.

Opening his eyes he saw that the palm of his hand was still the only thing ablaze on his body. Sighing he whipped around toward Ickichumo, brown strands of hair catching wind as his fury churned the atmosphere around him like a spoon twirling broth, “Aren’t you supposed to be helping me?” he snapped hoarsely. The training was getting the better of him both physically and mentally as was shown by the dark circles surrounding the area of his somewhat inlaid eyes. Copper skinned and beautiful Ickichumo was the talk of the ladies, not to mention he’d never been known as a terrible ninja, but now he only eyed his ex-student with cool disassociation,

“The exact words of the agreement stipulate I watch you, nothing more. And believe me I’ve been watching you…you’re not that good at whatever you’re doing.”

The words were sharp and usually enough to light a fire within, but it fell short this time and the Genin only slumped to his feet with discouraged breath, “Maybe I should forget it…” Conceptually speaking it was alright to imagine that a river had infinite outlets, but that was because the water itself flowed in an infinite space, chakra was not the same; there was some order to its rotation. “Always knew you’d fizzle out, hot shot” Ickichumo added insult to injury.

From the smirk on the man’s face perhaps he knew what he’d done. Uesugi rose to his feet with renewed vigor as he took the needed steps only this time envisioning a single flame which started out from the palm and then slowly began to imagine a spark igniting a nearby branch. Opening his eyes and heart slowly to the idea he found that his entire right arm now lit blazing with chakra as his palm had been earlier. He’d done it!

…sort of.

Having mastered his arm, the boy was full of himself even as he secretly ‘hired’ Ickichumo each day in case anymore nuggets of knowledge dropped from the other man’s mouth as it had before. The extension had progressed a little further than his arm, but now a new issue had arisen: Uesugi’s body could not handle the sheer drain that was placed upon it by forcing the power throughout his entire being…more precisely his arm.

“Haaaaaaaaah!” he shouted as first his hand burned with his own life force and the chakra surged down the length of his arm purposefully before stopping just short of the shoulder, but that did not alleviate the immense wave of exhaustion that nearly brought the lad to his knees at that point. As he’d tried many times before, the push to extend it that extra inch was successful in that the chakra now encompassed past his left shoulder, but now he’d dropped to one knee and was uncertain whether he’d have to give up breathing in order to simply get the entire half of his body before passing out. Releasing the technique was like dying…only the peaceful relief that one might imagine did not come and you felt eternally drained of everything. “It wasn’t any better than last time…” the youngster panted as he spat into the grass patch a ways from him.

Ickichumo shrugged his shoulders and went back to thumbing through a ninja catalog stating that ‘he had to get the latest ninja gear’, but more to himself rather than the pupil he’d sworn to look after. It was fine. Uesugi didn’t need him. Levering himself back to his feet, he wavered momentarily before managing to stand firmly with his legs about twelve inches apart and placing his hand at belly level where he again began focusing the chakra and envisioning the torrent of fire that he’d used to draw out the technique onto his arm. As it had every time after the discovery it made the jump to the rest of his arm—at the expense of incredible costing upon his energy reserves and it took only a moment before Kenchu was dropping onto both knees again. He’d hit a wall, but he didn’t know where else to go from here…and his teacher wasn’t really giving all that much help.

Weeks of this pressed on and he’d managed to push past the shoulder and cover his neck, but each time he was certain that he’d identified the grim reaper before waking up a few moments later with the cool grass clinging to his soft, somewhat chubby cheeks. These times Ickichumo only looked up with a curiously arched brow at that boy who had collapsed from chakra exhaustion without much interest.

Definitely not a good teacher.

Just a little more. Just a little more. Come on. Come on.

His thoughts raced while his eyes blazed with the light creeping ever so slowly over his shoulder then painstakingly slow up his neck until he felt the tingling sensation of his own chakra creating a film over his skin. Breath seized in his lungs as the effort became too great and he released the jutsu which had already taken him months to master until this point before slumping back-first onto his bed heaving for air. It was at least the fourth attempt he’d made at the enhanced Chakra Absorption variation and he felt completely drained, almost as if he’d run a few times around entire village. Almost.

“Again. I can do it again.” he stubbornly told himself as he staggered to his feet once more.

Palm raised, he focused into the center of his right hand. Imagining the flames of blue that was his energy into existence had become nothing of consequence and the way in which it raced up his arm was also nothing to be amazed at, but as it had before and each time this late afternoon the speed at which the jutsu spread over his being slowed exponentially as it rode up his shirt sleeve. Brown hair dank with sweat Uesugi gritted his teeth and plunged within the very depths of his soul to draw out the remainder of the energy he needed to draw the ‘blanket’ over himself…and yet it would not budge past his neck. Waning strength prevented him from holding on any longer and as the world dizzily spun around him, the Genin collapsed to the floor in his apartment with no one to look after him. It wasn’t until the deepest end of night that awoke once again in a puddle of sweat upon the wooden floor and almost immediately his thoughts were set upon trying yet another time. There has to be another way. Has to be.

With this thought in mind he rose again—still on shaky legs. Paying no mind to his physical well being attempt number three was given with another approach in mind. Rather than imagining a flame spreading over his being, a river once again ran through his thoughts…and yet it was a different sensation than the body of flowing water from before. His chakra responded as he’d only hoped. All this time he’d been envisioning something that he was in control over when all along the flow of his chakra was something to be embraced, something which was channeled. Now the water flowed through him rather than by him. As the transformation occurred effortlessly within his spirit, the chakra that had been burning brightly in his palm calmly made its journey from his arm all the way up his neck until his whole head was enveloped. It seemed that the jutsu would finally cover his entire being when—

“Ahahaha…I guess I’m hungry” muttered the helter-skelter ninja. His training would produce no results if he starved to death, but even as he dapped away the droplets of sweat from his skin and removed the moist shirt from his slim frame he happily stepped into the shower satisfied at the progress he’d made in the passing night…even if morning was rising and he had duties to take care of.

He’d slept most of yesterday thanks to the brilliant discovery made in the early parts of dawn, but now he was bouncing eagerly in the mist hidden sun looming over his village, his teacher reluctantly perched nearby. While most teachers of the Hidden Mist were engaging men and women, Ickichumo was a man of depraved morals and even less indulged habits who took little care to ensuring that the people he passed were in fact prepared to be the ninja of tomorrow. “Yea, yea…I’ll watch you.” he responded to Kenchu’s earnest plea that he’d gotten the hang of the jutsu.

Nodding his head in affirmation, Uesugi widened his legs and allowed the noises of the world surrounding him to fade into the background of his thoughts until only the rushing noise of his own chakra moving to the paced beat of his heart. The key had been to change that rhythm to his liking. Now his mind easily formed the moving body of water that flowed through his being and he became distantly aware of the chakra that tingled as it traveled up his arm and barely took notice of the surprised gasp made by his observing teacher. If he lost even a moment’s concentration he knew that he’d have to begin from the beginning. Energy felt so close by even in the jutsu’s completed form and it was as if this life energy that hung in the air was gravitating towards him enticingly—waiting to enter the vacuum he was creating around his body.

Turning his upturned palm outward and lifting his other arm to face in the same manner that body concentrated, imagining now that the flowing river that had flowed throughout his being and created that blanket of energy sucking chakra over his whole being was an empty container waiting to be filled. “Yo, Senpai! Come over here lemme drain your chakra!”

“…..No.”
“I’ll tell the other teachers about the night you spent with—”
“Alright, alright, alright…damn brat.”

Without opening his eyes he felt the heavy cloth of the tactical vest his teacher and friend had taken to wearing since graduating to Chunnin. His palms dug in, slightly towards the other man’s mass seeking to draw the humming pool of energy that seemed just out of reach, but instead of being drawn into his whole body, the jutsu only worked through his palms. Cutting off the image of the flowing river through his mind he dropped his hands, rubbed them together one good time before trying again. He had to get this right. Clasping his hands together for the initial kneading of the chakra, Uesugi’s body went from a dull and sultry outline to blazing in a mysterious light, the effort putting visible strain upon his body as he grimaced a little.

Wordlessly he touched his sensei’s vest again. Still nothing came through any portion of his being except for the palms that were touching him. And even then it wasn’t nearly as efficient as the Chakra Absorption technique itself; he needed to figure something out or else there was no point to this technique.
