Personality:
Genji is a complicated youth, to say the least. Though he seems to be a very brash person, he is much more within. Because of his origins, he is shunned in the Otogakure. He fights for it nonetheless, hoping to one day win the respect of his peers.
He is a very social person, despite his kindness being turned away so often. Because of this, and because of the death of his mother, he has developed a darker side to him. His ego is one of his worst qualities, causing him to charge headlong into a fight, without first analyzing his opponent. He mostly controls the egotistical side of him, but when he is insulted, or is damaged in some way, he flies into a rage, which has gotten him hurt on several occasions.
Genji, by nature, has a tendency to believe that he is better than almost all that he comes into contact with, unless proven otherwise. He is seen as a leader of his own group of friends, though the title is self-proclaimed. Genji is very loyal to those he deems worthy, risking his own life for them at times. He is very self sensitive about his appearance, particularly his hair.
Most of the time, as a guise to hide his true self, Genji will act as a hyperactive child would at times. If he sees something he deems unfair, or doesn’t agree with, he will argue about it until he grows tired of it, or is so beaten that he can’t argue further. He will laugh and joke quite often if he is happy. He will insult others for his own amusement, not realizing the other person’s feelings until they either hurt or shun him. When pitted against a formidable adversary though, Genji will complement his foe, but that rarely happens.
Genji has always thought that he is generally better than almost everyone around him. Because of this, and his past, he aspires to be something greater. Something that would truly make him better than almost everyone else. Something that brings his name’s meaning some truth…
Appearance:
Genji is a rather unique looking person, to sum him up in a sentence. He is of average height, for a Masamune, standing at a tall 6 feet. He is 145 pounds, because he very much enjoys eating, but he stays in shape despite it. He always walks the balls of his feet, as a way to strengthen his legs, walk silently, and to make himself look taller than he already is.
Probably the most noticeable feature on Genji is his Auburn hair. He has never cut it, as it reaches to his lower back. He also never keeps it restrained, preferring to keep it as natural as possible. He prides his hair very much, as he is often seen combing and brushing it when not fighting.
His choice of clothing is a cloak, not unlike what the Akatsuki wear, but of his mother’s design. The cloak has a very large collar, going up past his mouth. He treasures the cloak very much, as it was a gift from his mother, just before she died. On the cloak, she made a series of flower designs and birds, believing it to complement Genji’s apparel. On the inside of the cloak are a series of pockets, which Genji uses to hold various items.
Genji’s face is generally unscathed, aside from a 3 inch scar on his left cheek he received from a passing Shuriken he failed to dodge completely. His eyes are of a bright green color, perfectly complementing his hair. His face is oval shaped, which further adds to his height, if only slightly. Genji has a birthmark on his right arm shaped like a Kunai, which continues to bewilder him to this day why its shape is so accurate.
Genji is often seen wearing a Fedora, with a Peacock feather sticking out of it. He wears two headbands, as he was born in Sunagakure, but raised in the Otogakure. The Sunagakure headband is his father’s, a gift from him when he was born. He wears his Sunagakure headband on his forehead, but wears the other on the back of his head, letting others know he’s from both Oto and Sunagakure. The Otogakure headband is a dark red, from being soaked in blood many years ago, in a battle that Genji never speaks of. He wears a necklace with a Scarab made of iron on it, which he constructed himself.
Background:
Genji’s past is one of hardship. His parents were of different tribes. His mother being of the Otogakure and his father Sunagakure. When he was born, his mother loved him so much, that she named him Genji Kuro Kishin, which means Two Beginnings of a Dark God. Shortly after, his parents got divorced, leaving him with a broken family. He grew up living with his mother, and never knew much of his father. Being a Masamune by birth, he was mostly an outcast amongst his peers, as he was different from the others in Otogakure. At the age of ten, his mother gave him his father’s headband, as it was found abandoned years earlier for unknown reasons.
Amongst his peers, Genji was always shorter than the rest, so he decided to walk on the balls of his feet, and has done so since. At 15, he hit a growth spurt and grew to 6 foot tall, far surpassing all others in his village, but he still walked the same. Once, he was angered by one of his peers so much that he inadvertently crushed the person’s headband around his head a little bit, causing extreme pain to his attacker. He since has strived to sharpen his skills with iron and magnetism.
At the age of 16, his mother was murdered by a thief that broke into her house. Genji had to face him alone. The assailant had numerous pieces of metal attached to him, giving Genji an idea. Using his powers over magnetism, Genji lifted the man into the air and took several Kunai out of his pocket. Angered beyond all hope by his mother’s death, Genji flung the Kunai one by one into the man’s head. One in each eye socket, three directly into the forehead, puncturing the brain. Needless to say, the thief died.
After that point, Genji wore the cloak his mother made for him, symbolizing his loss. Genji became detached from most everybody else from that point forward. He decided to join the Ninja Academy 2 months later, knowing that he couldn’t do anything productive with his life if he stayed at home. He turned out to be the only Masamune there that had Otogakure blood in him as well, making him unique, as well as powerful.
Genji learned many things from the academy, including how to hone his abilities. He also regained some of his sociability, gaining him more friends, but he was still looked down upon by many. He passed every test in the academy with relative ease. After he graduated, he went back home, wondering what he’d do next. Genji wanted something better than what he already had. Something he doubted would ever happen…
