Kaito began to back track the elderly client’s schedule the minute he left the Mizukage’s tower. For such an elderly man, the client seemed to be able to get around quite a bit. Kaito decided he would travel in reverse, starting from the man’s home and would go throughout the rest of his day from there.
Kaito headed towards the elderly man’s home, looking for the locket on the ground just in case. That certainly would have made this mission easier, but it seemed as if he wasn’t going to be that lucky. As Kaito approached the man’s home, he noticed a couple of planters at the windows. He looked through the colorful flowers near there, but only found more flowers and dirt.
Next up was the market. The entire market. This man had seemingly visited every shop and stall there was to visit. Kaito began his journey through the market, asking stall owners and some patrons if they had seen the locket. Each and every person answered no. Kaito continued on his way through the busy market, hastily searching the ground, and kept bumping into people.
Still, the locket was not to be found. It seems as if the man had really lost it. Kaito took a few minutes to take a break and grab something to eat. He figured that he would be able to think better on a full stomach. He stopped by a restaurant and ordered some fish. As he ate, he reviewed the next place the elderly man had been to. As he was looking down the list, he noticed that the restaurant Kaito was in had been visited by the client as well.
Kaito began to get hopeful. He approached the manager, and asked him if he had seen the elderly man with a beautiful wooden locket. The manager said the he remembered the man, but he didn’t seem to have the locket on him. Kaito thanked the manager and sat back down. He was relieved that he hadn’t gone through all that trouble just to have missed it.
After Kaito finished his lunch, he began on his path to the next place: a jewelry shop near the gate. Kaito began to head that way and noticed that he was nearing the shadier part of town. Kaito didn’t like to visit this part of town as it housed common thieves and women of ill-repute. However, he wasn’t one to judge. Perhaps many of them had just fallen on hard times. Kaito knew that he would steal if it meant feeding his family.
Still, nothing of consequence happened as he approached the jewelry shop. Kaito was surprised that someone would risk having a store that held as much value. Still, as Kaito asked the shopowner about the elderly man, he received the same answer he got from the restaurant manager. Kaito took a look at the jewler’s wares to make sure the locket was not among them , and he was satisfied after an extensive search that the jeweler had not attempted to sell the locket for his own profit.
Still, this meant that Kaito had not found the locket, and it would get dark soon. He was going to have to increase his speed in which he searched to be able to find it in a timely manner.
