Taisen still hadn't any idea what was happening to him. He remembered his name, at least. Everything else about him was just gone. If his dress was any judge of his character, he wouldn't likely be welcome in a village populated by ninjas. But Akiko, that strange little necromancer who claimed to know him before he woke up on that rooftop, seemed convinced that he had been a ninja at some point. Why, then, was he dressed like a sea-faring type and lacking special powers of some kind? He couldn't remember where he had seen it, but he knew that ninjas could do seemingly impossible things. Why couldn't he, if he was as Akiko said?
As he walked, something caught the corner of his eye. High above him, sticking out of the side of a building, was a yellow-wrapped sword handle with a skull on the pommel. It was familiar, and it felt like it was calling to him, if only he could reach it. As he looked around and tried to find a way up, he suddenly remembered. . .
He lowered down onto his haunches and literally jumped up high enough to grab the handle, then ripped it out of the stone like it had been lodged in pudding. Upon landing back on the ground, the ANBU blinked at him while he stared with reverence at the sword in his hand.
What the ANBU didn't know was that Taisen was experiencing a flood of memories, information streaming through his brain and rolling his eyes back into his head. When the ordeal ended, after what seemed like an eternity of twitching and convulsing, the former kage's ears were smoking and he was laying on the ground. A few seconds later, he caught his breath and sat stock straight.
"Holy crap," he gasped, "I remember who I am now. My name is Taisen Kamyuja, I am, or was, the Yondaime Mizukage. This is Samehada, and I normally carry it around with two special shields and. . . Where are my shields?"
In his sudden lucidity, Taisen actually started putting some things together. For instance, the angle that the sword was facing into the wall looked like an indicator of how it had entered the wall, which could also say something about how Taisen wound up on the roof of what he now remembered as being the kage tower. Climbing up to the roof of the building the sword was in, he looked in the direction the handle was pointing and, sure enough, there was the tower along the same path.
Which meant, then, that his shields couldn't be too far away. Sharing what he found with the ANBU, they both started looking for his auto-shields. Taisen found one, and eventually the ANBU found the other.
Ecstatic to have his weapons back and beaming from his memories returning, he set off to find Akiko and tell her the good news, as well as find out if any of his old things had been kept. Still dressed as a pirate as he was, he wanted to get back into his proper attire and set out to find out what exactly happened to him all this time.
