Description: Mr. Squiggles is a humanoid wooden puppet created as a practice puppet for Kid Storm. The puppet is short compared to a full grown human, and made of darkwood, making it lightweight enough to carry relatively easily. It is painted completely black, and it wears a dark grey robe that doubles as a duffle bag when the puppet curls up, making for simple transport. It’s head is proportional to it’s body when compared to a human, as are it's other limbs. On the puppet's back is a cloaking screen device concealed by the puppet's robe. Each arm of the puppet holds a weapon. It's right arm houses a grenade launcher, while the left arm holds a hidden saw blade that replaces it's hand then retracts at will. The puppet conceals a drill spike in it's chest that can be extended from the body with a length of 3 feet, useful if the opponent disarms the puppet.

Character Depth
Personality:
Sense of Humor - Kid learned at an early age that if you aren’t the biggest or strongest kid on the streets, then you need to have something else going for you to avoid getting killed. She discovered that the older kids are more likely to accept you if you give them a good laugh when you’re around, so she happily filled the niche of “small but tough talking jokester.” She has a mischievous grin permanently plastered on her face, and her light, goofy laugh easily pushes others to laugh as well. She learned to be able to laugh at herself as well as others, and through all of this acting, she truly did develop a strong sense of humor (or at least the ability to laugh in the face any obstacle).
Deceptively Friendly - As another part of fitting in, Kid makes it her job to befriend anyone and everyone in the room. Her outgoing and charismatic demeanor usually means she succeeds, and from the outside it would seem that she is a genuinely friendly person. Really, the opposite is true. As a result of her parents abandoning her as a child, her best friend dying in her arms, and her only “family” selling her for a quick buck, she has developed a powerful emotional shield, making it almost impossible for her to form true relationships. She acts friendly on the surface, but underneath she knows that she only makes friends so she’ll have the advantage over an enemy.
Manipulator - Kid is a master of deception, and she isn’t above lying and misinforming to get her way. With her size, brute strength is hardly an option, so she relies on her wits and and her likeable demeanor to influence those in power. She had plenty of practice in the arts of manipulation and deception when she was young, spending years as a professional beggar on the streets of Yokoburi. Now she uses her talents to further her own interests, regardless of the cost to others.
Machine over Man - Due to the previously mentioned hardships she faced during her life, Kid has come to genuinely dislike people in general. Although you wouldn’t know it by looking at her, every moment she spends being friendly with others is torture. When Obaa-san taught her about puppets, she finally found something she could put her interest into. Puppets are easy to manipulate, and they never do anything without permission from their controller, making them the perfect teammates. Working on puppets, and on technology in general, is a hobby that gives Kid a very rare sense of satisfaction.
Appearance:
Hair - Kid has very distinctive sky blue hair that is commonly mistaken to be dyed. It is, however, her natural hair color and a mutation that has attributed to her likablilty in that it makes her unique and memorable. Her hair is spiky and short, the length making it easy to maintain and less likely to get in the way during a fight. There are two long locks of hair that run down each side of her head, reaching down past her shoulders. Due to the constant rain of Ame no Kuni, her hair is perpetually frizzy and damp.
Face - Kid has a heart shaped face and a permanent sly grin. Her eyes are hazel colored, and they never betray her true feelings. She has learned to use her eyes as her greatest tool, because when people wish to know one’s true feelings, they always look towards the eyes. Kid uses the expressions of her eyes to convey whatever emotion she is pretending to have at the moment. Her skin isn’t tan (it’s difficult to tan when the sun is always covered in clouds), but it is a bit more tan than it’s natural fair tone due to her early life taking place almost exclusively outdoors. Over the bridge of her nose she has a long scar that cuts across her face horizontally, reaching from below one eye to below the other. She can’t remember the event that gave her this scar.
Body - Kid is small, even for her age, in both height and body type. She lacks any real physical strength, and no matter how much she tries to build up muscle, she ramains skinny. Her body just isn’t made for bulkiness. She has thin arms, and her legs are smaller than the arms of some people she knows. Despite her small size, she bears numerous scars over her body, a reminder of a hard life on the streets.
Clothes - Kid wears a tight black sleeveless shirt of cloth and a pair of arm-length fingerless gloves that reach up to the middle of her biceps. Around her neck she wears a bandana that bears her Amegakure forehead protector. She wears dark grey cargo pants and black ninja sandals on her lower body. On her back is her puppet, concealed in a large grey backpack.
Background:
Kid has been alone for as long as she can remember. Her earliest memories, in fact, are of stumbling through the streets of Yokoburi, digging through the trash for scraps. She only managed to survive because a young member of a street gang felt sorry for her and took her under his wing. Because she didn’t have a name, the members of the gang just took to calling her “kid,” since she was by far the youngest in the group. Eventually the name stuck, and she began identifying herself with it. She took on her surname, Storm, because storms were something she feared, and she wanted her name to be intimidating. The gang was a group of about a dozen or so orphaned street urchins who made their money through begging, mugging, and underground street fighting. Kid’s personal savior, Shark, was the gang’s best fighter and arguably the second in command under their leader, Duke.
Shark was an unmatchable brawler, with tons of brute strength and an uncommon agility that made him a terror to face in the ring. As much as Kid wished she could be like him, her tiny physique made street fighting an impossible dream. She was, however, an accomplished beggar, because no self-respecting citizen could resist giving their spare change to a defenseless little girl. Life went on for a few years like this, Kid pulling her weight in the gang through her begging, and then watching her idol smash skulls in underground fights. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
One day, during one of Shark’s regular matches against an opponent who had no chance of winning, the unthinkable happened. As Shark leapt forward to finish his opponent off, the cowardly fighter grabbed a knife from the sidelines. Before Shark had a chance to change the direction of his jump, his opponent shoved the knife into his chest, and then ran away, knowing the backlash from Shark’s comrades would be ferocious. Shark’s fellow gang members ran off in pursuit of the fleeing thug, except for Kid. As soon as she saw her savior and idol get stabbed, she jump in the ring and knelt down beside him, extremely distraught and unsure of what to do. Death in the ring at an underground street fight was by no means a new phenomenon, but no one wants to be around when the police get wind of it. In just moments the area was empty with the exception of Shark and Kid.
Kid was unspeakably frustrated with her inability to do anything to help Shark, so she decided she would try to find someone who could help. Before she was able to get up, however, Shark grabbed onto her wrist tried to tell her something, but his voice came out as a whisper. Leaning in closer, Kid tried her best to make out what he was saying. His words were quiet and unclear, and despite her attempts Kid was unable to get him to repeat the words again. Shark faded slowly out of this world, his final words lost due to Kid’s inability to understand them. Tears burned in Kid’s eyes, blurring her vision. She held on to her idol, the only person who she could truly call a friend, and sobbed. When her gang found her there a few hours later, they had to drag her away from Shark’s corpse kicking and screaming. About a week afterwards, Duke sold her as a servant to an old crone visiting from Amegakure, and she was forcibly taken to the Hidden Village under the old woman’s servitude. She was only 9 at the time.
When Kid reached Amegakure, the old woman revealed that she was a former ninja, and had bought Kid from the gang in order to take her on as an apprentice. Kid reminded the woman of herself as a child, and the old lady wanted to give her a better life than the one offered by a gang of street urchins in Yokoburi. Over the next year, the old crone (who insisted that Kid refer to her as Obaa-san), taught Kid the basics of being a ninja, and when Kid was ten she was sent to the ninja academy. After graduating, Obaa-san began schooling Kid in the art of the Puppeteer.
