Type: Secondary, 15 per Slot, Piercing, Shuriken
Effect: Is a concealed weapon that is generally for throwing, and sometimes stabbing or slashing.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Hira-shuriken is constructed from thin, flat plates of metal derived from a variety of sources including hishi-gane (coins), and kugi-nuki (carpentry tools), and generally resemble popular conceptions of shuriken. In modern popular culture, these are called "throwing stars" or "ninja stars". They often have a hole in the center and possess a fairly thin blade sharpened only at the tip. The holes derive from their source in items that had holes - old coins, washers, and nail-removing tools. This proved convenient for the shuriken user, as well, as the weapons could be strung on a string or dowel in the belt for transport, and the hole also had aerodynamic and weighting effects that aided the flight of the blade after it was thrown. There is a wide variety of forms of hira-shuriken and they are now usually identified by the number of points the blades possess.

Personality:
Appearance:
Kyomei is actually pretty tall for his age, which is surprising because his mother is so short and his dad was pretty average. One of the reasons for his height is that Kyomei stands straight up without slouching, for his mother drilled that into him for quite a long time when he was a kid. Those who slouch tend to appear shorter, and he never slouches, thus he always appears to be his full height. He holds his head at a perfectly flat angle, not looking up at people nor down at them. He is not subservient, nor is he oppressive with the way he holds himself, he is only passively ambivalent. People used to make fun of him for it by stacking things on his flat head, until he knocked them upside the head from one of his many appendages.
One of Kyomei’s defining features is like all of his Clan, the three pairs of arms. The added pairs blend quite well into his torso, sitting just a few inches below his upper shoulders. All three pairs of arms are equally lean; however the upper one is a bit more bony, being the original pair of arms. No craftsman can make the arms exactly the way the original pair was, and this is represented by the shoulders of the four extra arms being much smaller. This has an unforeseen bonus that these less bony shoulders, though not weaker, are much easier to conceal. When Kyomei goes out into the world, he holds his four lower arms behind his back and drapes his cloak over top of him to make his other arms invisible.
Kyomei’s face is pretty average looking. He is developing a very masculine jawline, which if he is anything like his father will be almost permanently locked into a scowl when he is older. He has a very square face already which can only grow more so in time. His hair is of medium length and is a light brown color. It’s almost a dirt-like hue, which helps when it is actually dirty because it’s impossible to tell unless there are clumps of grass in mud in his hair. His eyes are boring, just a simple light brown to match his hair, which actually helps him blend in as a shinobi. His face doesn’t attract attention, it just exists like another brick in the wall.
Kyomei’s clothing is mostly custom made, like most of his clan members. Having six arms and a torso to fit them makes it fairly tough to fit into normal clothing. He prefers to wear bland earthy colors, such as browns and black and rarely a bit of grey when he’s feeling in a fashion experiment mood, which isn’t often. He wears a cloak made of leather that is black on the outside and brown on the inside, inside which are belts that can hide a large quantity of tools that he may need. Though it often makes him stand out, and can easily clash with his cloak, if he can get his hands on one he will without hesitation wear a fedora on his head for no other purpose but to look classy.
Background:
Pre-Ritual Life
Kyomei was born to average parents of the Kumomusha Clan. They were very loyal to the beliefs and teachings of the Kumomusha, but weren’t skilled enough to actually be anything special. His father was a shinobi, having undergone the Clan’s ritual, however he needed to be around other people and have them tell him what to do else he’d just go into a mindless, strategy lacking rage when he fought. This caused his father to receive many wounds in combat, each one a scar that he couldn’t tell you how he got it or where he got it. Despite his shortcomings, his father believed that retreat was never an option, and that backing down from something you’ve commanded yourself to do was the worst kind of sin.
Kyomei’s mother, on the other hand, was not a shinobi. She never developed the ability to mold chakra, and was never put through the Kumomusha ritual, though she was born into the Clan as well as Kyomei’s father was. Though Kyomei doesn’t like to admit it, his parents were third cousins, far enough away that genetics wasn’t an issue, but close enough that people outside the Clan would be disturbed. His mother was on the short side, only reaching four feet tall on a good day with thick shoes on, whereas his father was about five foot three. Though Kyomei’s mother, named Tanya, was no shinobi, that didn’t mean she didn’t have her say in the clan.
Tanya was one of those strong feminine leaders, the types of women who became Squad leader Jounin and even Kage, assuming that they did in fact know how to use chakra and ninjutsu techniques. Instead of go into shinobi leadership, Tanya became active in Clan matters here and there, helping newly initiated young ones to get accustomed to their new bodies, as well as tutoring the older ones in History and Politics. Her passion was Ancient Royalty and their customs, and used to talk about it so much that people got up and left if she even so much as said the words “I read in a book the other day…”
By the time Kyomei was six years old, Tanya was using him as the sole remaining person to talk to about her History topics. He was the only one left in the entire Village Hidden by Sound that would listen to her. It didn’t take long before Tanya was doing more than just telling her son stories of the Ancient Royalty, but also raising him like one. “Stop slouching, head forward, don’t even think about breaking eye contact to look at the tree over there.” “But Mom… we’re just folding laundry…” “Do you want to be a degenerate commoner? I think not, now do as I say.”
Her methods were far from the standard of parenting, but they were effective. As Kyomei got older, her parenting methods became more and more bizarre and elaborate. Even from the young age of six, Kyomei had shown that he was taking more after his father Matsuro than his mother. He was growing tall and demonstrating skill over chakra, very unlike his mother. Like many of his Village, Kyomei seemed gifted in the auditory arts, which Tanya sought to foster. It was her belief that by furthering classical talents, Kyomei would not grow into the sort of fighter that her husband was.
It was the day of Kyomei’s seventh birthday, and he was excited. Tanya had hinted for a long while about a very special present that was to come on this day. He had pleaded and pleaded with her to give him a hint, but she never relented. Finally, the day had come where he would receive the present. “Now, son, you have to promise to use this gift to the best of your ability and not let it fall into disrepair, ok?” Kyomei furiously nodded his head as he anxiously awaited the gift. “Yes, mother, I promise.” With his verbal promise, and a signed contract just for giggles, Tanya gave up the gift.
It was a beautifully crafted viola that had his name engraved into the side of it. The wood was of beautiful flamed maple, the bridge of pure ivory, and the strings of smooth steel. It must have cost Tanya a fortune, and tears started to fill Kyomei’s eyes as he cradled it, which were soon gone as his father got home. “Ah, the boy finally got himself a real Sound Shinobi tool, now he can get to work on becoming a ninja like his old pops, eh?” It was all Kyomei wanted to do at that point, learn to master the sounds of the viola in both Classical and Shinobi arts. By day he’d train at hitting the right pitch in order to create useful sound waves, and by night his mother would have him practice difficult pieces in front of a large crowd of people, so that stage fright would never overtake him.
It was a blissful year, Kyomei still being a child and could go out and play mostly whenever he wished and also growing quite adept at his instrument. By playing in various areas he had started to amass a collection of tools that the shinobi of the village had left as a tip. He didn’t receive a lot of money, but a knife here, a bell there didn’t hurt. It was a lot of fun, however, it would soon come to an end. Two weeks before his eighth birthday, his father took him aside and sat him down. “Son, you know that your birthday is coming up very soon. Do you remember what is special about the eighth birthday of a Kumomusha?” “The Ritual, father?” “Yes, son, the Ritual. But do you know what it entails?” Kyomei shook his head, not knowing the specifics, and his father explained what was going to happen. Those last two weeks of childhood were a blur…
The Ritual and Beyond
It was the day of Kyomei’s eighth birthday, and he was quite apprehensive. He took the long walk with his proud father up to the council room where the ritual would take place. His father was carrying four wooden arms that he had actually spent months crafting when Tanya was pregnant with Kyomei, in hopes that he would one day be able to mold chakra and would follow in Matsuro’s footsteps. These arms he had preserved for these eight long years just waiting for the right moment, of which it was currently the right moment. Each step of the long walk was more stressful than the last, but finally the pair reached the place where Kyomei’s life was to be changed.
As they walked into the large open room, one who had been to any of the rituals could tell that something was wrong. There were too few people standing in the room. There were only ten other Kumomusha in the room, and the old senile medic in the corner. That left Matsuro as the eleventh, but there was no twelfth in sight. One more person was vital to the accomplishment of the ritual, and that person had to know the chants and processes in order to have the chakra properly applied to make the wooden limbs real. In other words, Kyomei would have to not only participate in the ritual; he’d have to help perform it as well.
Much to the relief of everyone present, the twelfth of the ritualists showed up, however this didn’t leave Kyomei off the hook. The last available Kumomusha to perform the ritual was a paraplegic with absolutely no way to descend into the caverns below the building to cage one of the eight spiders necessary. This left Kyomei to go and cage one of the spiders on his own. “Think of it as a coming of age test that only you get to partake in. No other Kumomusha will be able to claim that they partook of and performed a part of their own ritual.” Matsuro’s words were comforting as Kyomei steeled himself to descend into the dark cavern.
The other seven went down with him, for they needed to cage a spider as well, however as a tactic for avoiding getting in each other’s way/startling the spiders into a frenzy they all went down separate paths of the cavern, leaving Kyomei alone in the damp tunnel he was sent down. In his right hand was a small cage, enhanced through chakra to avoid the spider getting out if they tried, and in his left was a small torch to give him light to see by. He only had to walk about thirty meters before the tunnel opened up into a larger space that seemed to write with the amount of spiders that covered the floor.
Slowly setting the cage to the floor, Kyomei decided to be strong and confident, like his father. He simply plunged his hand towards the mass, grabbed a large enough spider by its face and shoved it into the cage, allowing the lid to slam shut. Quickly he picked up the cage and made his way back to the council room, where the other six were already waiting alongside his beaming father. With all the required ingredients, ritualists, and medic, the ritual was about to begin. Kyomei had to lay down arms and legs splayed out while eight lines appearing like legs were drawn outwards from him to connect to the caged spiders that were arranged in a circle like pattern. It seemed like the drawings took forever to accomplish.
When the drawings were complete, the four who had been drawing came next to him, sharp obsidian knives held in their hands. The cuts made were deep, and it was one of the worst pains Kyomei had ever felt. The rest of the ritual was a blur as all he could conceive of was pain and chanting while wooden arms wrapped in some kind of scroll were shoved into the wounds. He had a temporary release from the pain as the medic came in to seal the attachment to the body, but that was a drop in the bucket compared to the pain of Kyomei’s entire torso adjusting its bone structure and such to bear four extra arms. However, Kyomei was stubborn and refused to pass out, even when carried to the hospital for recuperation.
After six days, one fewer than most Kumomusha, Kyomei demanded to be let out of the hospital. The doctors agreed, as he was in stable condition, and the first thing that Kyomei did was go straight to a mirror. It was an incredibly odd feeling, now having the weight of four more arms pulling down on his body, and when he willed them to move they did so, however quite clumsily. His arms were constantly getting tangled up by themselves and the clothing, though Kyomei wasn’t wearing a shirt at this point. His father walked in at this point, holding a thick cloak bearing the Kumomusha Symbol as well as a shirt with six arm holes.
It took Kyomei seventeen and five eighths minutes to get one shirt on, with his father laughing at him the entire time. “I remember when I had first had my Ritual performed, and my father like his father before him and like I stand before you now simply laughed. Let’s get right to work on restoring your mobility, yes?” Kyomei would do anything to let his arms move right and in sync, so he followed his father out to the forest. Over the next few weeks and months, Kyomei did little more than do pushups, pull ups, and complex maneuvers with alternating arms in order to build up the wrote muscle memory in order to use them flawlessly. It took a lot of work, but eventually Kyomei succeeded.
Now with his arms fully functioning, Matsuro took his son aside like he had done barely two months ago and smiled. “Look how far you’ve come, son! Now, though your mother will surely object, I want to show you something. Though I’m no master of it, I’m sure that you’ll go on to become a furious fighter on the battlefield armed with the skill of Kentoushi. It’s what has kept me alive all these years.” Matsuro trained Kyomei in the ways of the Brawler, teaching him how to use his wits to transform anything around him into a weapon to be used to his advantage. Kyomei learned dutifully, seeing as now that he had undergone the ritual, soon he would be inducted into the ranks of the genin of the Village Hidden by Sound.
Kyomei was the only genin from the Kumomusha in some time, so his appearance at the examination was totally alone. Not only that, but people looked at him funny. The Kumomusha of Otogakure were isolated from a lot of the main communes, at least Kyomei’s family was, so very few of the genin, if any, had ever seen someone with six arms before. The other genin hopefuls laughed at him, mocked him for being a circus act as they called him. Their words stung, but in the midst of his Kumomusha pride he ignored them. With his unique set of physical traits, as well as demonstration of his sonar and weapon improvisation skills, he passed the test to become a genin with flying colors.
However, this didn’t stop the taunting. Kyomei took to hiding his extra limbs in the folds of his cloak as well as retreating into himself in order to not give them the reaction they wanted. The other genin forced him to passively accept that he was flawed and needed to hide his flaws to be considered normal and no longer worthy of teasing. Kyomei would have almost given up on his Kumomusha pride if it weren’t for a pair of brothers that he met. The Karnon brothers showed him that his extra pairs of arms made him deadly as a shinobi and powerful as a warrior. One of the brothers, Kisune, always threatened to cut one of his arms off if he messed up, which inspired Kyomei to work harder. The three of them became a squad together and set out to bring glory to the Village Hidden by Sound…

- Viola, Small (Overview)
Rank: "C"
Type: Main, Instrument
Effect: The viola is a bowed string instrument. It is the middle voice of the violin family, between the violin and the cello.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: It has four strings tuned to the notes c, g, d, and a. Music for the viola is written in the alto clef. Violas vary in size, although they are always larger and tuned lower than violins. The casual observer may mistake the viola for the violin because of their similarity in size, closeness in pitch range (the viola is a perfect fifth below the violin), and nearly identical playing position. However, the viola's timbre sets it apart: its rich, dark-toned sonority is more full-bodied than the violin's. Its width reaches up to 6.75 inches while the length is up to 20.5 inches.

Personality:
- Loyal: Kyomei doesn’t give up on those whom he calls friends and allies. He knows that to receive assistance in the most important of times, he must keep a large collection of favors on hand. By being the number one guy his friends go to when they’re in trouble, he maintains a sense of loyalty that lets him feel self-righteous, as well as benefits himself in the long run. Because Kyomei’s loyalty is more or less derived from a selfish attitude, those who are undyingly loyal because they feel it is their “duty” often see through his less than pious actions. However, those whom Kyomei does honor by calling them friends and allies, he won’t turn his back on them because in the long run allies are greater than profits. In short, Kyomei is very loyal; however, this is for different reasons then for most other loyal people.
- Conflicted: Kyomei is very proud of his Kumomusha roots, being raised from two members of it. However, as a Shinobi he knows that stealth and deception are among the greatest survival tools. Obviously, it is hard to blend in to a crowd sporting two extra pairs of arms which just isn’t normal to have. Kyomei is often stuck between his Kumomusha pride that leads to his Shinobi shame, and that isn’t a good place to be. As a result, Kyomei often suppresses his pride, hiding his extra pairs of arms in order to seem more normal. He’s completely not a fan of this compromise, especially as it makes him lose his uniqueness in a group of people, but he trudges through the day just waiting for the moments when he can let himself be free.
- Confident: Kyomei is quite confident in his own talent, which comes from his mother’s harsh but helpful teaching methods when he was young. He is not afraid to get up and do something, whether it is in a one on one situation or in a massive crowd of people. He’s not intimidated by distractions or pressures to succeed, such as highly judgmental parents, because he believes that he’ll always accomplish what he sets out to do. When he fails, he takes it a little harder than most, forcing himself into more intense practice or training in order to make up for the failure. Failure doesn’t set back his confidence for long as he works to make it right inside himself.
- Reserved: Kyomei often keeps to himself, mostly because of his Conflicted nature. Not wanting to draw attention to himself, constantly having to keep his pride under the surface, has grown into a natural aversion to people. Large crowds, though they do not intimidate him, are physically draining to him because he is constantly focused on maintaining his more humble image. Because of this, he would much rather be alone then in large crowds of strangers. Large crowds of people he knows well, such as his family, is very different, as he does not need to hide himself around them. However, even when he is around people he knows, his reservations have worked their way throughout his entire being, and he is much less social than most people. He would still rather read a book than intentionally go out to where there are people, whether he knows all the people or not.
