Here I sit thinking about those days that seemed so bright, The sky so blue the air so clean the world so alive. The days of old tumble through my mind like a puzzle trying to be solved, jumbled and out of order the memories warped and distorted. I wonder if maybe the thoughts that I had were nothing but a farce, nothing but made up hopes and twisted lies. The sun rises and sets making time pass by, making my thoughts unsure and confused. The room was small confining restricting of all movements, it let you moved just enough to find a new position to get uncomfortable in. I could only hear the sound of my own breath and the routine sound of the metal sliding against metal when they would bring me my food. Plastic tray barely edible chow even now the rats don’t bother touching it, they stare at me for hours just wondering when I was finally going to kick the bucket. At first they would dash for cover at any movement, they would scurry for the food as soon as it hit the hard concrete floor, now they just sit and wait monitoring what I do.
This was my life, this was what I was punished with, My life was nothing but this box. I talk to the rats all the time I’m not sure if it’s because I have gone insane or if this is to help me keep my sanity, honestly I don’t care. I don’t bother with the food anymore, I don’t bother with anything anymore. I sit here for hours on hours waiting, sinking deeper into my mind into my thoughts. They drag me deeper into confusion and pull me closer to the edge of insanity, I have to use the wall to stand up. My hands and arms are tied to my sides thanks to the straight jacket they have put me in, they say it is for the safety of myself and the staff members. This makes me laugh all the time for hours on end I laugh till they shout till they bang on the door ordering me to be silent, I won’t be silenced I won’t be made into some obedient dog. My laughter fills this small room echoing off the walls to the point the very air is vibrating with my laughter, it carries out of the small cracks in the door down the hallway to the guards it teases their ears nagging on their souls. It chills their bones making them shiver as if something was breathing on the back of their neck, they stand quickly walking with haste down to my room. I can hear them, I can hear their heartbeats pounding against their chest.
This makes me laugh even more, louder more manically, they move faster their hearts and thoughts filled to the brim with fear for some unknown reason. This is the normal occurrence everytime I start laughing, every time I start doing anything that disturbs the silence of this prison. They pull the key out of their pockets fumbling to find the right one, my laughter filling their ears making it hard to concentrate. It slides into the lock with a solid clunk the door opens quickly and they storm in, but the room is peaceful even the rats dare not to make a sound. There they are in this small four walled prison of mine looking in disbelief at the pure emptiness of the room, Where was I they asked themselves, Why is it so silent, What is going on. These thoughts multiplied rapidly building the terror that was in their hearts then the silence was broken a soft footstep behind them, spinning around they looked back at the door there I stood in my straight jacket smiling a wolfish grin. My hair grew longer and darker into a dark dark black that rivaled the night in comparision, my teeth grew sharp and pointed. The jacket strained to the point of ripping as my body grew in size, my feet started to form into those of wolf paws. The guards with their faces distorted in fear grabbed for their black pistols filled with a magazine of silver bullets specifically for this situation, I mean after all this was a prison for those things that went bump in the night, those things that glare back at you as you stare into the darkness, those unknown sounds that fill the air as you walk alone. There was a flash followed by a howl and screams of bloody murder, that night that plain room was covered in blood and the rats hungrily raced to the corpses of the foolish guards that thought they could defeat the alpha of the purest wolf pack. I walked down that hallway, the other prisoners cheered in victory finally they knew that they would be free to roam the night once more to prey on those weak and defenseless humans that had put them into this prison.
I smiled and made sure that each one of them understood that if they weren’t going to follow me then I would gladly kill them as easily as I had with the guards, they bowed in submission they knew they were no match even though I still had a my straight jacket restraining my arms. Some ghouls moved to undo the bindings that kept me in this jacket but when I growled they moved away confused as to way I wanted to keep this cursed jacket on. I turned towards the door that would lead out of the prison kicking the door smashing it from its hinges I proudly walked through the exit as the clouds passed by overhead covering us in shadow I let loose a howl that filled the air and carried for miles. The full blue moon came into view shining in all its brilliance filling me with that wonderful sensation fueling my body with the supernatural power, I calmly ripped my arms free of the jack stripping it off my body smiling that wolfish smile. We were free, The night was ours once more, my brothers and sisters surrounded the new escaped prisoners and welcomed to the pack. We will regain what was rightfully our back from these puny, weak and defenseless humans that had imprisoned us in that cursed prison.
“The night is ours, Let’s celebrate with some snacks.”
