When Baek had stepped through the dimension he had not expected anything quite as grand as the scene unfolded before him. His breath hovered before him in filmy white puffs and the cold of winter sunk deep into his unprepared bones. Even as the harsh climates set him at a disadvantage he remained aware of himself, each detail coming through sensory mediums that set him at ease for the moment.
45 marbles, 2 frag grenades, 4 smoke grenades, 1 stun grenade, and 150 ninja stars… he tallied mentally as his eyes sought to find suitable ground for him to fight. That was what he was here for after all.
The area was a 100x100 meter setting with a large lake inset by land ate up approximately 60x60 meters leaving approximately 20-30 meters of land on all sides of the water after crossing its expanse to reach it. The lands themselves were mostly mounds of snow whose peaks and valleys began at awkward angles that would make it hard to gain a solid footing on. The snow was so fine that stepping in it with any amount of force would sink a person’s foot approximately .5 meters into the ground from which they would have to pull themselves up from. A quick survey placed him 30 meters out from the nearest strip of icy glacier land which was westward from his position. A sudden urge to laugh at the irony of his situation rumbled up from his freezing gut. He’d been seeking out a fight worthy enough to hone his skills beyond their current limitations, but instead he had found a tundra wasteland with little food to eat and an endless number of places that the enemy could hide before striking. In his thoughts he emphasized the enemy hiding as his honor would not allow him to use crude guerilla tactics whether he was ninja or not. Ninja was only a title after all in the same way that his being named Kage was a title, but honor was not a title; it was a way of life.
Coughing as a too-quick intake of icy air rolled over the unnaturally still water he realized that the temperature on the water’s surface was easily as low as than 10 degrees Fahrenheit which meant fighting on the water’s surface for extended amounts of time without a heat source could mean hypothermia—at best. His cloak surrounded in a protective shroud of fur on the inside while the waterproof leather coating would keep the freezing liquid beneath him from seeping in his skin. Inside the folds of the equipment heavy wear he reached for the reassuring feel of his daito katana, sheathed on his left hip, waiting to be drawn. He only hoped that the searing cold would not freeze the metallic weaponry into his case at a dire moment, but such things were beyond his control as these things lay at the dictation of the battle.
Tonight’s moon was full and beautiful. Its reflection glowing palely in the water below it and it held such vivacity that Baek was almost willing to ignore the creeping cold threatening to strangle him where he stood stone-still waiting for his opponent to make their appearance. Above all things he could not appear weak as a first impression—not for anyone would he be prepared to look weak.
