Rin flew through the cold skies, her Tsubasa heritage granting her wings that allowed her to fly. It was something that she both held very dearly and took for granted. She let her hair loose in the wind and felt it get whipped around by the strong headwind she was creating with her speed in air. The night sky added to the chill in the air, creating an extra layer of cold that would've dug deep into her bones had she not been wearing an outfit made of material that resisted the thick Yuki cold.
She turned back in the general direction of the village, hoping to get a good glimpse of it lit up at night. It was always so beautiful at that time, especially from that height. She could see the lights up ahead and put on the speed, flapping her thick black wings and spreading her feathers in search of any thermals that would give her more altitude. Height equaled distance for her, and if she could get higher she would arrive at her destination faster and less tired.
Rin caught the thermal and rode it upwards, allowing it to send her up easily. Normally she would have to flap through the thick cold air which was tiring but now that she was almost to the village she eased up on the speed relaxing a bit. They say that when you are closest to your objective is when you let your guard down and this seemed to be the case with Rin.
She didn't notice the sky lighting up above and behind her, and even if she did she would've stood a piss poor chance of surviving what came next. Meteorites began to fall from the sky, raining hell from the heavens onto Rin. Tiny rocks traveling at thousands of miles per hour plunged through her wings. She didn't even notice the pain it happened so quick, and then she was coughing up blood as more meteorites ripped through her back and out through her midsection.
Her wings crumpled into a broken mess behind her back, and she plummeted straight towards the ground at terminal velocity. She would've screamed but she felt as if she couldn't breathe, and then she gave up the notion entirely. She knew she was dead, and there was nothing she could do about it. I'll be joining you soon, mom and dad. She pictured them smiling at her from a place with warmth and light and then she crashed into the ground, snuffing out her life and splattering the contents of her body along the snowy ground.
