Character Depth
Personality:
Maasaa didn’t grow up around very many kids in the land of sea. In fact he’d spent the first twelve years of his life upon the smallest island that made up the land of sea. The island was a strange place growing up and there were many things much larger than him that had scared him time and time again. The beasts along with some of the older kids who bullied Maasaa brought out the shyness in him. He often won’t talk to someone he first meets because he doesn’t truly know who he can trust.
Fidgety
It’s never too early to pick up bad habits and Maasaa certainly got one. With a lack of much excitement or entertainment, he tries to find something to fiddle with if he’s busy with someone. At dinner you’d often hear his mother telling him to stop playing with his knife or to put that toy down when she was talking to him. However when he interacts with people it has become second nature to fiddle with his clothing or belt or even the other weaponry he has on him.
Observant
Maasaa did not grow up without training from his “parents”. Both of them had knowledge of shinobi arts as well as some very key lessons. One of the most important and often practiced was his observation. Time and time again would come that he’d be forced to walk into a room and either recalls certain items in the room or tell them when something was off. With these lessons when he comes across a new place Maasaa tends to take a moment to scan everything over to take note of any minor detail that could be important. The stories of death his parents told him due to carelessness constantly remind him to observe.
Survivalist
Along with the ninjutsu training his parents gave him they often went camping or traveling to the other islands. Times were not always so easy traveling through the lands on their island. They certainly were not easy upon a boat but the rough tides taught him many lessons. If his parents taught him one important lesson it was to survive and to use whatever advantages one had to live. There was nothing more valuable than the life you control. Maasaa holds this true to his heart.
Unforgiving
There were times during his childhood that simple things had been promised. People had spoken about rewards for doing things for them only to not pay up. When these disappointments showed up Maasaa often got stuck on them forming grudges against those who he believed crossed him. Yet he never thought he would have a grudge against his parents. As many things that his parents gave for him to improve his future he was abandoned. There was no explanation it simply happened. From the moment he found himself lying in the country of moon, alone, hungry and with no parents or guidance it didn’t take long for him to put two and two together. Unfortunately with no one to show a path away from grudges he often waits to bring about his own revenge.
Appearance:
Unlike the other children he’d known growing up Maasaa was much shorter standing at five feet two inches tall. He weighed one hundred pounds but all the training that he’d done kept him slim and physically strong. Just like his parents he had jet-black hair that was grown out fairly long reaching over his ears and down his neck. Maasaa noticed that people almost always stare at his eyes before looking over the rest of him. When the sharigan isn’t activated his eyes are completely black peering out towards the world around him.
Despite what he has seen his face shows very little of it. He simply looks like a child with a kind face. When seen traveling alone people often mistakenly think someone has lost him. Upon his head you will almost always see a cowboy hat with a golden band wrapping around it. This item like a few others he holds onto is very close to him but also serve as a reminder of them. Held by a roping was his father’s great sword which would sway but stay secure as he moved through the land. It wasn’t his intention to own such a large sword but he dealt with the cards he was handed.
Maasaa was left only with the clothing he’d been given on that fateful day they’d traveled to the land of moon. Lucky for him one of the survival skills he’d learned was to wear layers, you could always take some off but it was hard to add something you didn’t have. He wore a beige sleeveless vest that had straps on the shoulders as well as buttons all the way down the center of it. Underneath the vest he wore two separate shirts. One was a long sleeved blue t-shirt that showed the obvious dirt of his travels. As much as he tried to keep it clean it seemed impossible. Beneath that he wore a blue shirt he thought had an awesome picture of a ninja in diving gear upper cutting a shark.
Maasaa wears black cargo pants with several pockets on both sides. Around his waist acting as a belt lies his utility belt given to him from his mother. Inside it was all the tactical items plus a few more fun gifts that they thought he would need. Each pouch held separate weapons ranging from grenades to kunai. Upon his feet he wore red and black running sneakers which allowed him to run, jump and maneuver throughout most terrains with ease.
Maasaa actually left on the boat with a third shirt a plain dark red shirt that he didn't really like the look of. To make it more like-able he tore off different sections to turn the shirt into a makeshift face mask. He found that with his face covered even being so young he got less dirty looks and just was looked at less in general. When he is trying to be sneaky the red face mask will likely make its appearance.
Background:
There was never a dull moment from the moment he was born. Brought into the world by a family of Uchihas whose names are still unknown. Maasaa was kept overnight to make sure that he was healthy; when the morning came the wrong family was given the wrong baby an unforgiveable mistake. The family was not from the land of rain they were only passing through with husband and pregnant wife. Some would call it bad luck some would call it fate, for a while Maasaa wouldn’t even know. The family was one who lived in the land of sea upon its smallest island the Kika Island. After they’d been given the wrong baby they returned to the island immediately and before his true family could figure out what had happened, he was gone.
It turns out that the child that the parents had actually made had the same black hair and black eyes as his. All was well on the land of island because everyone thought they were where they were supposed to be. So rather than growing up in the land of rain he grew up on a small island with two other shinobi. From a very young age they taught him basic things. He learned how to mold his chakra very early but his parents never taught him how to walk upon water. Perhaps he was too young or they themselves did not know but it was left out. However as he grew his father took him out more around the island on camping trips. There he learned how to live out in the wild there wouldn’t be built homes everywhere he went.
Growing up he found out his parents had control over two very different types of elements. His mother knew how to control lightning while his father could shot flames from his mouth. When he was eight, for three months he stayed on a separate island in the area to survive. While they traveled Maasaa learned how to use the basics of lightning control. Along with the lightning release his mother spent many days and nights training his eyes. Little did she know the potential his eyes could hold she taught him to observe every detail he saw. For weeks he would go into rooms to memorize items and point of differences and possible threats. The constant training kept him busy but sometimes he often didn’t have time to spend with other kids.
When he was ten years old he’d begun going to the school on the island to learn more about the area and the world that they lived in. However Maasaa was quite short and small for his age which brought on bullies. When his father learned of this their training began quickly so he could defend himself. As well as some hand to hand combat his father taught him to feel the fire within him. The affinity of fire went hand in hand with Maasaa and quickly he’d learned to shoot his first fireball. Unfortunately it was at the bullies and he was expelled from school when he was eleven.
Turning twelve was certainly an interesting experience for him. A cake was brought out at lunch and brought to their table in their home. It had been a simple morning of relaxation for his birthday but when his eyes landed upon the cake the feeling of happiness was too great. Such joy brought about a change within Maasaa and his dark black eyes took a change to red. There was a slight look of shock on his parents face but it quickly disappeared before they walked out of the room for a moment. Soon as they’d left they returned saying they were going to the land of moon to finish celebrating his birthday. Too caught up in the moment he barely noticed the change in his eye yet everything did seem a bit clearer from that day on. However when they took the boat across the waters to the land of moon Maasaa had been foolish enough to fall asleep.
They reached the land of moon and while asleep they left him on the grass on the border of the country. When he awoke Maasaa was able to quickly realize he was not anywhere near his home. A feeling of worry and panic first filled his mind, how had he gotten here? How could his parents have lost him? They were traveling together. Running over to the water the strain of emotions filling him caused his sharigan to activate again for him to see. Startled by what was in his eyes he wondered if this was reason enough to abandon him? Maasaa didn’t even know what was going on with his eyes it was almost frightening. At that moment he also wished nothing good to come of the family that had raised him and brought him here. A moment of true hate filled Maasaa that day and his hope would come sooner than expected. A week after his abandonment a knock on the door of his “parents” was made. At the door his family met with those who’d taken him long ago. Yet they were prepared for the day that the Uchihas would come looking for their son. Letting them inside the house covered in exploding tags blew up taking out his true and fake family, never for Maasaa to know.
Now he’d begin by himself with the lessons he’d learned in the land of moon. The only thing he’d been left was a cowboy hat his father left him, a utility belt filled with weapons from his mother, and a large sword almost as big as he was to defend himself.
