The flames in the fireplace had began to die out as the wood was starting to run low. That did however work in Emi's favor as he didn't want to damage the metal in the crucible he just wanted to keep it molten. The amount of molten iron was however not sufficient for the two remaining pieces, so he placed another 8 small iron pieces into the crucible. A couple of droplets with the orange liquid jumped up into the air when the lumps of iron landed in it. A few of them even bounced out from the crucible and landed in the flames or on the stone-floor, something that Emi quickly scraped away using his foot.
The iron would be able to manage on the fire for quite some time so he went back to his first mold. The iron appeared to have frozen and Emi was able to loosen the fireproof wire. The two pieces were refusing to split apart. Emi's thought immediately went back to the moment where he had seen the dark smoke arise from it. Had something gone wrong? He wouldn't know unless he opened it up. The young boy tried to open it with different tools for almost an hour before he gave up and took out the largest hammer and walked over to it.
The swing wasn't very impressive as the hammer was so heavy that the sheer weight made movements with it hard. It came down with some extreme power and as it hit the surface of the mold it immediately split up in millions of pieces. The mold had been as dense as rock but could stand against the force of the blunt weapon. The shuriken piece came flying out from the ruined mold and landed with a clink on the stone-floor. Surprisingly it looked completely unharmed and it didn't even have the same burned surface as the previous one had. He took up the two pieces that he had created and analyzed their shape. It looked like both of them were looking exactly the same.
But as he turned on the pieces for a couple of times he found that both of the pieces had a slightly askew edge. So he picked up both of the pieces and went to the sander-machine. He hoped that the small flaw was possible to be removed by sanding the metal. When he sat down in the machine and began to make the wheel to spin he held the edges to the light to make sure that he knew exactly what he had to change. Emi then put the second piece next to himself so he could compare the two. Sparks flew from the metal as it touched the spinning wheel and Emi was slowly moving it counter-clockwise.
He didn't push hard towards the spinning wheel to make sure that the effect wasn't too great. because if he were to rush it he would most likely need to redo the entire piece. It took Emi almost 55 minutes and 20 comparisons with the other piece until he considered the first one completed. He dried off the sweat on his forehead with his sleeve again and put the piece on the table next to him. Even though the windows and door was opened it was still extremely hot in the smithy. He didn't know how he could fix the searing heat. It had been a long day and he suspected that he would need to take a break within short.
