Tracking
Rank: "D"
Skill: Skill
Effect: Characters use this skill to follow the trail of animals and other persons.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Can be learned by an Animal. Tracking means the user found a trail if they gain the check, while failure means they did not. If user fails this initial skill check, they simply cannot find that particular trail. After finding a trail, further checks may be necessary depending on the situation. Darkness, falling rain/snow, a dust storm, moving from one terrain to another (such as from sand to rock), one trail splitting into 2 or crossing water are examples why a user might need another Tracking check. Look in Task Skills thread found in the Skills and Traits Index for more information. Each time learned user gets 5 die roll to increase the skill.

Godric would keep this smell in mind. He had a mind of how the wind effected the positioning of such a smell. Now it was truly time to identify where it was coming from. He would pan his head from left to right. He wasn’t certain what it could be but he would take a nice long breath to see if he could smell where it was or at least where it once was. With this he would walk the direction that it was the strongest. For a little while he would go along this trail until something shifted. It wouldn’t have been that long but something was different the scent weakened or it was dissipated. But was it really dissipating or had the winds shifted.
The smell would be weak but it would be in this area. Godric would look around and find that this area had a table and chairs. He would inhale a great deal letting in the scent through his nostrils. He would start to note a pattern to a weak and average scent. The smell was coming from the table. So he would lean in real close to it and smell something on the back of the chair. He could tell that the scent he was looking for had been here. What could it be he wondered as he started off to smell other things in the area. He was starting to get an idea of what was going on so he decided to pick three strong scent locations.
Godric would note the chair would have this scent. He would also note that a few spots away from the chair would have this scent. He would then figure that if he drew a line from each spot, that could be the direction that this scent was headed. So given that information he would start to follow this. He panned his head from left to right to see if he could pick up the smell once again. It was somewhat of a gamble since he was trying to find it blind or rather without the scent trail for a bit here. But with his reasoning he should pick it up soon. And then he smelled it again. He would follow the trail until he found where it was coming from.
Godric would stop at a tree about eye level. He could tell the smell was coming from this location. Obviously it wasn’t here but he could tell that it was around here. Smelling the tree much much closer he would find there was another spot on this tree. Whatever smell this was made contact with this part of the tree. He would take in a deep breath from this area of the tree so that he could keep the scent in his memory. Then he would turn with his body slowly and slowly turn his head trying to pan for the scent. There was something that was close to it in a certain direction. But he wasn’t sure. He would walk in that direction and soon find he had lost the trail. So he would try something out and have a search area.
Godric would walk around the tree in a circular manner. He would start out near the tree then spiral out from there. He would keep his head panning around slowly as he made his way. This was how an animal tracks, and with his keen scent he was like that of a hunter, a preditor, he was the blood hound that was searching an area to find the smell. It was here, faint but here. Though as to which direction he did not know. He found that scents left residuals from what they touch and it helped his tactic. Thus he would continue to walk until he had smelled something. It was there, more than just that it was strong. It was unbelievable that he had missed it but he found something and he would be drawn in that direction.
