Tanni Orval descended upon the festival. She had put her wings away in her back and switched over to her soul-based form of pure flight on the way down. It was less visible, and she didn't need to make a flapping noise to slow her descent every so often.
She approached the festival like that from the air. As she was about eighty meters over the ground, she found an empty spot and fell the rest of the way to the surface. Her feet slammed into the hard ground and sent out a small ring of displaced dust.
"Ah," Tanni breathed in the savory festival air. Alcohol and food. A good mix.
Her skin was tan, and her wavy brown hair was down to her shoulders. She looked completely different from how she truly did. The body Tarah secured was a couple years older than their actual one, at least, so maybe it was possible to get a few drinks in.
The kimono was still the same—thick red linen with solid black patterns in the shape of oak leaves. She tightened up the neckline now that she didn't have wings sticking out of her upper back getting in the way. Tanni didn't like the feel of the fabric against her arms, so she completely ripped off the long sleeves and left them on the ground. She rolled around her newly exposed shoulders, swung her fists in the air a couple times, and then hopped into the crowd.
She considered throwing out the map and compass she had on hand, as well, but then again those were worth conserving just in case. She definitely couldn't get rid of her half of the Leaf headband, but she didn't put hers on. It lay hidden beneath her kimono near the waist.
"Hello party goers!" she half shouted and half sang. "Sorry I'm late, what did I miss?"
Oh right, I should take a step towards safety, she thought as she bounced along at the tips of her toes.
Tanni bit down on her thumb and wiped some blood against her palm. She then performed a quick string of handseals and concentrated her energy in the front.
A panda—standing just a little over six feet tall—appeared in front of her. He was the master swordsman Besar Prajurit, and he was a samurai despite his slightly casual appearance. His beige kosode and black hakama were just so typical. It was nearly boring enough for Tanni to want to ditch the panda. The fact that he was a loyal, walking and talking panda was a couple points in the creature's favor, at least.
Tanni did look twice at Besar's straw sandals, though. She was barefoot, so she was tempted to ask for them. However, this environment was fine for bare feet. The hemline of her kimono covered her feet well enough, and it wasn't like her feet could possible be big enough to wear a panda's sandals.
"Okay Besar," she announced. "Your duty today is my protection. Watch my back while I be reckless, okay?"
Besar glanced at the gathering of people surrounding them, and gave a curt nod in reply.
Tanni smiled up at him, and then turned towards the nearest screen. The hunt was on and about. It was a nice spectacle.
