A small Gladiatorial ring was bought and set up by Ryutatsu near the city of Port Porthos. It stretched 100 meters by 50 meters. Here Students of the Senri School, Shinobi or Not could demonstrate their martial skill. It was entertainment, gambling, and business for the busy port but more importantly it was a way to earn money and contracts for those that participated. It wasn't unusual to hire those that participated as mercenaries or guards.

Gladiators became big business for trainers and owners, for politicians on the make and those who had reached the top and wished to stay there. Gladiator games were advertised well beforehand, on billboards that gave the reason for the game, its editor, venue, date and the number of paired gladiators (ordinarii) to be used. Other highlighted features could include details of venationes, executions, music and any luxuries to be provided for the spectators, such as an awning against the sun, water sprinklers, food, drink, sweets and occasionally "door prizes". For enthusiasts and gamblers, a more detailed program (libellus) was distributed on the day of the munus, showing the names, types and match records of gladiator pairs, and their order of appearance.The entertainments often began with venationes (beast hunts) and bestiarii (beast fighters). Next came the ludi meridiani, which were of variable content but usually involved executions of noxii, some of whom were condemned to be subjects of fatal re-enactments, based on Greek or Roman myths.
