Shoma leaned against a nearby railing, playing restlessly with his sword, as he waited for the other members of his team to arrive to begin their mission. This was Shoma's first ever mission, and even though it merely involved capturing a cat, he felt excited....and perhaps even a bit nervous if he was being honest with himself. He kept playing different scenarios around in his mind...including everything from not being able to locate the cat, to accidentally killing the cat, to coming across a gang of rogue ninja who had captured the cat and were holding it for ransom....then they'd have to battle the rogue ninja, capturing the entire gang while rescuing the kitty completely unscathed and becoming heroes in the eyes of Kusa. Shoma had quite the imagination.
He lifted his head and gazed around yet again, his mismatched eyes scanning the landscape carefully, watching for the form of an approaching shinobi. No one yet. Shoma sighed resignedly, and bent his head back towards the sword in his hands. Perhaps he should practice some new moves with his sword while he waited....
Shoma leaped nimbly to his feet, rolling the hilt of his wakizashi over the back of his hand and into the palm, where he grasped it firmly in a reverse grip. His feet moved automatically from years of rote training, balanced on the balls of his feet, spaced about shoulder-width apart. With a sudden spinning motion, Shoma lunged forward on his right foot, rotating his hips as he brought his sword-arm out, elbow bent at 90 degrees and forearm parallel to the ground. Following the rotation of his hips, Shoma continued the spin, straitening his sword-arm, so that his blade followed the path of his arm. Shoma completed the spin by sliding his right foot around, placing the majority of his weight on his left foot, then bending his left knee and jabbing behind him by placing his left hand over the end of the hilt and pushing backwards with both arms. As he jabbed, he pushed back with his left leg while absorbing some of the momentum with his right, equalizing the distribution of his body weight to both legs.
Shoma held the pose for a few seconds, then straightened back up into his beginning stance. The weight distribution had been off by a bit. He could have been unbalanced had someone been attacking him. He prepared to attempt the move again, this time paying more attention to how he was distribution his weight between his two legs.
