It had actually taken a bit of time to find the master of Tsuiken, but luckily Isamu had figured it out before long. It didn’t help that he still didn’t have a map or any real means of transportation besides his own two feet. He found the dojo on the very outskirts of the village, whereas he thought he’d find it inside the village itself. He really needed to pay more attention when people spoke or something. He knew that his master’s name was Akane, though he wasn’t sure how strict she would really be. He also knew that she was proficient in Mashin, one of the types of Tsuiken. Walking into the dojo, Isamu easily found her. She was wearing a white kimono when she walked up to him. “Are you Isamu?” He nodded faintly. “Your uncle told me you’d be here. Let’s get it started.” Sure, his uncle had told the dojo master, but didn’t help Isamu when he asked where the dojo was. A short, quiet curse was mumbled. Akane led the Kaishin to a training room in the dojo.
“I’m going to be teaching you the most basic stances to start off with. There are two of them. I will form the first one and then you will follow. I will correct your faults as I see fit.” Isamu simple nodded as he crossed his arms over his chest and looked at the woman before him. He hadn’t said anything yet for he was taught to respect his elders (he never did this, but he figured since she was teaching him he might as well start now). He watched very intently, making sure to note every little move made by his master. She moved into a bow stance, her knees just slightly bent so that she was lowered a bit to the ground. Both of her swords, Isamu noted, were on the left side of her belt. She then placed both of her hands on the hilts of her blades, which looked a little awkward since both of them were on one side of her body. Isamu also noticed that she stood very lightly on her feet, almost on her toes, so that she would be able to evade attacks quickly if necessary.
“Now you try.” Isamu nodded slightly as he scratched the back of his head, closing his eyes for a moment. He pictured what she had just looked like so that maybe he could impress her instead of looking like a dumb-ass. He focused on the key points of the stance. She had her knees bent; she stood lightly on her feet; she placed her hands on the hilts of her sheathes. When he opened his eyes the woman was standing in front of him. “What are you waiting for?!” She spoke with a smile, which forced Isamu to smirk uncomfortably. He hesitated for a bit longer before he bent his knees a little bit, pointed his toes slightly more, and placed his hands on the hilts of his katana and newly bought wakazashi. They were located on both sides of his hips, making it pretty comfortable to unsheathe them quickly.
Akane smiled, which made Isamu feel better about himself, but it was short-lived. “Your stance is garbage.” She made a lightning fast kick to his knees, forcing him to fall onto it. The ground shook a little bit under his weight. His hand also fell off of the katana’s sheath. “You’ve lost one of your weapons now.” She quickly whipped her katana out and stuck the very tip of the blade to Isamu’s throat. Smiling, she offered her hand out to Isamu while putting her sword away with the other. “Do it again. If you fail this time I’ll just kill you.” Isamu’s eyes widened as he nodded, letting her help him up. For such a cheery woman she was brutal in her training. He quickly thought about the stance again, but was forced to hurry when she spoke again. “You have six seconds.”
Isamu bent his knees and placed both of his hands on his sheathes as she counted down from six. When she was at two he made sure he was light on his feet. Akane smiled again, which made Isamu very uncomfortable. “Good job.”
