Sitting upon a grass covered knoll, overlooking the shoreline of her nation; Miko quietly observed the sun which had begun its journey below the horizon, flute twirling graceful between her narrow fingers. The feel of the metallic instrument in her hands had become a comfort to her after all this time, and without it she felt so empty. As the sun dropped below further and further out of sight, she could not help but wonder how many of these views had she seen, so similar, so beautiful, yet she did not remember any of them. The memories that had long since ceased to exist, yet still clouded her mind every day.
The woman’s gaze shifted from the setting sun, down to the docks that lined the shore; dozens of workers shifted around cargo in preparation for the night’s journey. Waves broke heavily against the rocks that lined the edge of the nation; with out warning, the wind was sucked from her, as if her lungs tried to draw breath but were simply not powerful enough to do so, vision blacked and consciousness faded.
Miko snapped up into a sitting position, one handed gripping tightly at the her chest, the other covering her eyes from the horrid sights. Sweat trickled down her delicate skin as she coughed several times, trying to reclaim the breath she had lost a moment ago. The flashbacks were clearly becoming more violent, it was not something that could be ignored anymore. After calming herself, her sharp gaze returned to the workers down at the dock. Rising to her feet and brushing dirt from herself, the chuunin continued down the hill to the docks and approached what seemed to be the captain.
Bowing her head ever so slightly as the man turned to face the new comer, “Hello there sir, I am Miko a Chuunin of Kumogakure. May you please grant me passage with you to where ever your going tonight.” It was common knowledge that Chuunin of Kumogakure were aloud there own freedoms as long as their actions did not endanger the well being of the village, and as such it was not an unusual request. “Well Ma’am we are making a bit of a long trip, we are headed all the way around the land to Kawa no Kuni, If that is alright with you than you are welcome to join us. The extra protection never hurt right?” he spoke in high spirits, clearly she had chosen the right man to approach.
“Very well.” she finished before leaning against a nearby pole until they had finished their preparations, within the hour they had set out across the sea, the small vessel gliding smoothly across its glassy surface. As much as she wished to look out over the moonlit water, her most recent flashback still loomed within her thoughts and she had no interest in being consciously close to the water as that; instead she simply sat at the head of the boat and watched the stars waver across the sky as they passed. She cared little for her destination at this point, but she had spent nine years here in Kaminari no Kuni and had yet to figure anything out about her past, she had to start trying.

‘Cold liquid licked at every inch of the child’s weakened body, currents ripped her back and forth underneath the waves like nothing more than a piece of trash. Barely able to take a breath for more than a second before being ripped back down into the crushing blackness of the sea. All that could be heard amongst the chaos was the powerful waves crashing down above her helpless form and inaudible shouts from shadowy figures on the cliff above that became farther away with every second.’
